It seems like the universe really never runs out of ways to torture me. After running away with Brilly, I continued to monitor Rosalie. We also had a brief conversation when she went out to look for food. It felt like we were back in the approach stage. The difference is that now she really doesn't remember me at all.
Unfortunately, after all those pleasant events, I was picked up by one of the Elders' messengers. He said there would be an important meeting, and I was forced to come because I had to be a witness as well as a spokesperson. I could only follow his orders, even though Brilly had grumbled and sworn at me, I still followed the messenger.
When I arrived, I could see my family sitting next to Niel and Zaydan. Ah, I hate being the center of attention like this. If I were the center of attention of women like I used to be in college. I wouldn't mind, that was my dream before I met Rosalie.
"Jasper, is it true that you met Dylan Steele?" asked Joshua, the oldest of the Vampires.
I had no preconceptions about the question, so I nodded firmly. As if meeting Dylan wasn't a big deal to me. After all, what would they do if I met the son of the rebel they were looking for? Would they behead me? Dylan wasn't on Mark's side either.
"Why didn't you report it to us?" another elder asked.
"The encounter was limited to a fight where he could have died on the spot if he hadn't run away," I said as I looked at Zaydan who was at the scene as well.
Suddenly, the elders looked at Zaydan simultaneously, confirming that Jasper's words were true and not made up. Killing a half-blood won't get you jailed, let alone beheaded. The unwritten rule that you could kill a half-blood was known to any Vampire family.
"That's right, saying once he escaped," Zaydan said.
Seeing that the elders only nodded together, they decided to rise. Making all his followers rise in the room, including Niel. I, who didn't know what was going on, could only stare at Joshua's uninterpretable gaze.
Damn, at least tell me what's going on! I thought.
"For the sake of our safety, immortals. We hereby agree with the agreement made by the other races to create a protective wall that makes our world invisible to humans. And vice versa," said Joshua.
"What? A protective wall?" I was upset.
I knew my tone of voice was actually unpleasant, in the middle of a crowd of many other Vampires. I wanted to make sure that Joshua's words were just a joke. However, seeing Joshua nodding firmly, it suddenly made me sit down instantly. They wanted to close the immortal world temporarily because of the chaos this time.
Cassandra approached me, who was in the middle. She whispered to me why the elders dared to make a decision this time asked. It turned out that the betrayal committed by Mark had revealed many secrets and things that should not be known by outsiders. Some of our secret information about immortal beings was also revealed because of Mark's behavior.
I got to thinking, what did Mark do to make his own identity exposed? Mark is not someone who plays dirty, let alone leaves traces everywhere. That's not his trademark, but why is he like that now? Is it because Dylan was the one who erased the traces of his crime? And now Dylan was leaving his camp.
"Jasper, let Rosalie go. Stay with us," Cassandra whispered.
I had no intention of being angry with the elders' decision to close the immortal world. At least I could contact Brilly through telepathy. However, the moment Cassandra said that my temper flared up, why would she say that after everything that happened? That's ridiculous. Everything happened because of their decision, and should I just accept it gracefully? Even the proverbial one would laugh, I'm sure.
"Cassandra, you shouldn't say that at a crucial time like this. You know that's something I can't do," I whispered to her.
Without saying anything else, I quickly stood up to leave the podium and sat beside Zaydan with a look on my face that I couldn't control. On the other hand, the elders began to prepare their forces. We were all herded to the border. At first, I didn't want to go, but Zaydan forced me, as if this was a ritual that I had to follow.
"So how do I find Mark if you close the door?" I muttered.
"Mark is in the immortal world with his son. They're just separated. I can't track Dylan. But I'm sure he hasn't crossed over yet," Niel said.
I just nodded as I rolled my eyes lazily. If I couldn't cross over now and meet Rosalie, then where should I vent all my longing? How do I survive in this immortal world? These questions, whose answers were clearly not there, confused me.
What am I, just killing myself? Maybe Joshua will help me happily, I thought.
Not long after, Cassandra punched my shoulder quite hard, it seemed like she heard my thoughts. That's so funny, when I could have actually done that. To be honest, it's not a bad idea for me, it's worth a try.
"I won't let you do it. You know that, Jasper."
I only glanced at Cassandra briefly, then went back to watching the other pack elders begin to arrive with representatives of each of their people. "You won't regret it either. I'm just an implication," I said.
Cassandra was silent, while I laughed. Even she herself couldn't answer anything when I said that I was just an implication. Couldn't she have at least given me some encouragement and don't let me think that I'm not an implication. I'm really a pure Vampire with a few flaws.
I actually didn't pay much attention to how the elders of the different races gathered to discuss, until finally they all spread out, at certain points, to unleash their power. There I was a little surprised, seeing Brilly among the representatives of the people. If true, then she wouldn't be in the human world to guard Rosalie either.
My footsteps were just about to go to where Brilly was, before a telepathic entry stopped me right in front of Niel. Upon seeing Brilly, she shook her head and disappeared from the crowd without telling me where she was going. When I wanted to chase after her, Niel held back my hand and shook her head as well.
"They must look neutral because some of the herd is following Mark," Niel said.
I shook off his hand and returned to my original spot. My mind fought again. What about Rosalie Would she be safe without me? Was I sure I could let her go alone? Am I now able to live peacefully without thinking about her for a single second?
Rosalie, I'm sorry. I'm going back on my word, I thought.
