# Chapter 10: The Third Survivor
Rain poured heavily over the city as Elena and Adrian left St. Gabriel's Hospital. Neither of them spoke until Adrian started the car.
The words **"Find Raven first."** echoed in both their minds.
"Do you think Raven remembers everything?" Elena asked quietly.
Adrian kept his eyes on the road.
"I don't know."
"But if Miss Maggie trusted Raven..."
"...then they may have the answers we've been searching for."
Detective Noah followed them in his own car.
"I'll have my team search every adoption record again," he said over the phone. "This time we'll look for children connected to St. Mercy who suddenly disappeared from the official files."
"Thank you," Adrian replied.
"We're running out of time."
---
Back at **The Herald**, Adrian pinned every clue onto the investigation board.
The orphanage map.
The friendship bracelet.
The silver locket.
The hidden diary.
The photograph with the scratched-out trustee.
And finally, the raven symbol.
Elena stood in silence, studying the board.
"Everything keeps leading back to Raven."
Adrian nodded.
"But Raven could be a person... or a codename."
Just then, Noah entered carrying a thick folder.
"I found something."
He placed an old newspaper on the desk.
The headline read:
**CHARITY TRUST DISBANDED AFTER FIRE**
The article described the organisation that had funded St. Mercy Orphanage.
Most of the trustees were listed by name.
One name, however, had been blacked out with permanent ink.
Elena frowned.
"Someone erased it."
Noah pointed to a tiny handwritten note in the corner of the page.
*"The Raven Foundation."*
"The Raven Foundation?" Adrian repeated.
"It wasn't just a symbol."
Noah nodded.
"It was the name of the organisation that secretly financed St. Mercy."
---
Later that evening, Elena returned to her apartment.
She couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her.
As she unlocked her front door, she noticed the lights inside were already on.
Her heart began to race.
She was certain she had switched them off before leaving.
Carefully, she stepped inside.
Everything looked normal.
Nothing appeared to be missing.
Then she noticed something resting on her dining table.
A small black feather.
Beneath it lay another envelope.
With trembling hands, she opened it.
Inside was a single sheet of paper.
**The Raven remembers.**
At the bottom was an address written in neat handwriting.
**Blackwood Cemetery. Midnight. Come alone.**
Elena immediately called Adrian.
"I received another message."
"I'm coming over."
"No."
She looked at the note again.
"It says I have to come alone."
Adrian's voice became firm.
"You're not going anywhere by yourself."
---
Midnight arrived beneath a sky hidden by dark clouds.
Although the note demanded Elena come alone, Adrian and Detective Noah secretly followed from a distance, staying out of sight.
Blackwood Cemetery was silent except for the wind moving through the old trees.
Rows of weathered gravestones stretched into the darkness.
Near the centre stood an old stone mausoleum.
A hooded figure waited beside it.
Elena stopped several metres away.
"Are you Raven?" she asked.
The stranger slowly removed the hood.
Instead of an elderly witness or a dangerous criminal, Elena found herself looking at a young woman, no older than thirty.
The woman studied Elena carefully.
"You finally remembered the orphanage."
"You know me?"
"I knew you."
The woman smiled sadly.
"You probably don't remember me."
"My name is **Lillian**."
She looked toward the sky before continuing.
"The children called me Raven."
Elena's eyes widened.
"You were the third survivor."
Lillian nodded.
"Yes."
"I escaped the same night you and Adrian were separated."
Tears filled Elena's eyes.
"Miss Maggie told us to find you."
"I know."
Lillian reached into her coat and removed a weathered leather folder.
"I've been protecting this for twenty years."
She handed it to Elena.
Inside were photographs, handwritten testimonies, and the missing pages from Adrian's adoption file.
But there was one final document that caught Elena's attention.
Across the top were the words:
**Project Sparrow**
"What is this?" Elena whispered.
Lillian's expression turned serious.
"The real reason certain children were separated."
Before Elena could ask another question, the sound of tyres screeching echoed outside the cemetery gates.
Three black SUVs sped through the entrance.
Lillian's face lost all colour.
"They found us."
Several men climbed out of the vehicles.
One of them pointed directly at Elena.
"Take the folder!"
Adrian and Detective Noah emerged from the shadows.
"Police!" Noah shouted.
"Nobody move!"
The cemetery erupted into chaos.
Some of the masked men fled between the gravestones while others tried to reach Elena.
Adrian grabbed her hand.
"Run!"
Clutching the leather folder tightly against her chest, Elena raced through the rain with Adrian beside her.
Behind them, Noah and his officers pursued the fleeing suspects.
As they reached the cemetery gates, Elena looked back.
Lillian was gone.
Only a single black feather lay on the ground where she had been standing.
Whether she had escaped or been taken, no one could tell.
Breathing heavily, Elena opened the folder once more.
Hidden inside the final page was a handwritten sentence that sent a chill through both of them.
**"The children were never chosen by chance."**
For the first time, Elena realised the mystery was even bigger than they had imagined.
Someone had selected specific children for a reason.
And she and Adrian had been among them.
