Ethan stood on the deck, watching as the rescue boat disappeared into the distance, taking Ava away. He didn't seem surprised or worried, just relieved.
He had never wanted Ava to come on the cruise with him, and now that she was gone, he could focus on his true intentions.
As he turned to go back inside, Ethan's mind began to wander back to the events that had led him to this point.
He thought about his wedding day, and how Ava had insisted on joining him on the cruise for their honeymoon.
Flashback: The Wedding
Ethan and Ava's wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. But as they exchanged their vows, Ethan's mind was elsewhere.
He had been planning a trip for months, a cruise that would take him to exotic destinations and provide the perfect cover for his real intentions.
Ava, on the other hand, had been excited to join Ethan on the trip, thinking it would be a romantic honeymoon and a chance to relax and unwind.
But Ethan had been hesitant, trying to come up with excuses to leave her behind. He didn't want her to join him on the cruise, knowing that his true intentions were not pure.
As they danced at the reception, Ethan's eyes scanned the room, his mind already on the cruise and the opportunities it would bring.
Ava, oblivious to Ethan's true intentions, smiled and laughed, thinking that their honeymoon would be the start of their new life together. But Ethan's thoughts were already on the smuggling operation, and the role he would play in it.
Back to the Present
Ethan's thoughts returned to the present, and he smiled to himself as he thought about the events that were about to unfold.
With Ava out of the way, he could now focus on his true mission. He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation.
This was what he had been waiting for, the chance to make a big score and start a new life. And now, nothing could stop him.
*********
Claire and Lucas sat at the cozy restaurant, sipping their wine and laughing together. To anyone watching, they looked like a couple deeply in love. But Claire was starting to feel uncomfortable.
Lucas was doing too much, his touches and kisses feeling more like a performance than genuine affection.
As they leaned in for a kiss, Claire was about to pull away, feeling like she was playing along with a charade that was getting out of hand.
But then she saw Alex walking towards them, a look of shock and regret on his face. Something sparked within her, and she decided to see this through. She kissed Lucas, trying to make it look as real as possible.
Alex's face fell, and he looked like he had been punched in the gut. He turned and walked away, leaving Claire feeling a mix of emotions.
She was relieved that the charade had worked, but a part of her felt guilty for using Lucas like this.
Just as Alex was about to disappear into the crowd, he got into a fight with a suspicious-looking man.
The man was tall and menacing, with a scar above his eyebrow. Claire's eyes widened as she watched the scene unfold.
"What's going on?"
she asked Lucas, who was busy taking pictures with his phone.
"Just a fight,"
Lucas replied, his eyes fixed on the scene. "Don't worry about it."
But Claire was worried. She didn't like the look of the man, and she didn't understand what Alex had gotten himself into.
As the fight broke up, Lucas started typing away on his phone. Claire's curiosity got the better of her. "Who are you talking to?" she asked, trying to peek at his screen.
"Just a business partner," Lucas replied, his eyes locked on the phone. "Don't worry about it."
But Claire was starting to worry. What was Lucas involved in? And why was he being so secretive? She decided to keep a closer eye on him, unsure of what was real and what was just part of their charade.
Claire decided to call it a night, leaving Lucas to his mysterious activities. "It seems you're busy, let me leave you to work," she said, trying to sound casual despite her growing curiosity.
As she walked back to her room, her mind wandered back to Alex and the trouble he had gotten himself into. She couldn't help but feel a pang of love and concern for him, but she knew she had to move on.
The next day, Claire received a message from Lucas: "Let's go play poker and poke out enemies." She chuckled and got dressed, wondering what Lucas had planned.
As they arrived at the poker arena, Claire was struck by the lively atmosphere. The room was filled with people, all of them eager to win big. The sound of clinking glasses and muted conversations filled the air, and the smell of cigar smoke and perfume hung heavy over the tables.
Claire and Lucas sat down at a table, surrounded by other players, all of them focused on the game. As the night wore on, the tension in the room grew. Players were betting big, and the stakes were high. Claire was getting into the game, her competitive spirit taking over. Lucas was playing cool, his eyes fixed on the cards in front of him.
As the players at the table focused on the game, a group of people in the background were huddled together, speaking in hushed tones. They were discussing something in secret, their eyes darting back and forth, making sure no one was listening.
As the game reached its climax, the atmosphere in the room began to shift. The music in the background changed, and two couples got up to dance. The room was distracted, everyone watching the romantic scene unfold. But in the chaos, something else was happening. A box was being passed from one person to another, its contents unknown.
It wasn't until the man with the gun appeared, walking towards Lucas, that the night took a deadly turn. Claire's heart was racing as Lucas grabbed her arm, pulling her out of the room. "We need to leave, now," he said, his voice low and urgent.
As they ran, the sound of gunfire and shouting filled the air. Claire's world was turned upside down, and she had no idea what was happening. All she knew was that she had to get out of there, fast.
