Time With Family

442 Words
The next day, the family of four sat at the dining table to have breakfast together. ‎ ‎"Honey," Mrs. Voss called to gain her husband's attention. "Yes, Gloria," Mr. Voss raised his head from his food to stare at his wife, waiting for her to continue. "Will you be around later this afternoon? I was planning to take the kids out for a picnic in the meadow and maybe visit my parents." She smiled at her husband, hoping he could join them. "Sounds like you guys would be having lots of fun," he replied. "I don't know; I might be able to squeeze out some time for the picnic, but I can't accompany you to your parents, as I have a meeting to attend. Sorry, love. Maybe next time?" Gloria smiled at him. "That's okay; at least you'll be able to spend time with the children and me, even if it's just for a little," Ronald placed his hand on top of his wife's, squeezing it lightly to reassure her. Damien, who had just finished his meal, stood up to excuse himself. Bowing to his parents, he walked out of the dining room, going back to his room, when he heard a sound he found to be disturbing. Following the noise, he walked to the back of the mansion to see the source of the noise he was hearing. ‎ ‎Luke, who was engrossed in the work of felling a tree nobody asked him to do, did not notice when Damien walked towards him. ‎ ‎"What do you think you're doing, Luke?" Damien asked the boy, who was younger than him, which startled the boy enough to make him drop the axe he was holding and stare at Damien with wide eyes. ‎ ‎Damien stared at the red eyes that looked back at him. "Master Damien." Luke quickly bowed to his master. "What are you doing, Luke?" Damien asked again, to which the boy smiled brightly. "Master Damien, I was trying to fell this tree so that I could restock the mansion with wood." answered Luke feeling proud of himself."Since when did that become your job?" Damien questioned. His eyes moved to look at the tree that was half-cut. "And are you planning to destroy the mansion by cutting the tree in that direction and this close to the mansion. Why are you even cutting the tree here?'' Damien stared at the boy as if he didn't know what to do with him. The smile on Luke's face instantly faded. 'Oh no...' His eyes trailed to look behind Damien at the butler, who was glaring daggers at him.
