Escape

A man held his pregnant wife as they ran in the forest. Beside them was his wife's sister who kept looking back to make sure they weren't being followed. Things had been peaceful a few hours ago until the witches attacked his family. He had to escape with his wife and sister-in-law, leaving his parents to buy them time. He knew he wouldn't be seeing them again as they were old and the witches never left anyone alive; they were ruthless. They had been running for hours now, getting close to the border of Aurelian, but the pregnant woman couldn't run any longer. Tears welled up in her eyes at the thought of not being able to see her children. She was in pain, so much pain that breathing became difficult. She couldn't hold it anymore, she needed rest. "I can't go any further, please," she said, her hair and face damp with sweat and tears. The two people who were running immediately stopped. "Edith, what's the matter, are you okay?" the man asked his wife, concern evident in his voice. Meredith locked eyes with her sister for her to understand that she was in labor. Going to the corner, Clara picked up a piece of stick and started making markings around them. She drew a big circle that was the size of a room before going to mark small patterns on the circle. "What are you doing, what's going on?" the man asked his sister-in-law. "Simon, help her sit down." She continued marking the ground before quietly whispering spells. "Clara, tell me what's going on, please." The woman turned to him after creating the spell. "It's a concealment spell," she said. "I know what a concealment spell is, my question is why are you doing it?" He spread a shawl on the ground and helped his wife sit on it, assuming she was tired and needed rest. "Because she's having a f*****g baby, how do you not know?" Clara stared at him like she couldn't believe he didn't know. His eyes turned to look at his wife. He knew she was close to her due date but she still had two weeks before labor. He was both excited and worried. "Is that normal, is she going to be okay?" he was worried. "With all the running and stress I'll say it's completely normal and expected. I need water," Clara said as she started to help her sister so she could give birth. Simon quickly went to the side and placed both his hands on the ground and within seconds the dry ground suddenly had water bubbling to the surface. The water was warm enough for a person to bathe in. His elemental ability was water, giving him the power to manipulate water however he wanted. Moving to his side, his hand reached for a piece of tree bark that looked like an arc. Using a few spells and magic he successfully turned it into a big bowl. Dropping the bag he carried on his back, he searched for a potion. He then placed it in the water before feeding it to his wife and helping her drink it. His mother-in-law had prepared it months ago for her smooth delivery. After drinking the water, Meredith began to push her baby. She felt like her insides were being torn but she kept pushing with her husband's support and the encouraging words from her sister. She gave birth to her children before passing out. The sound of the babies crying filled the space they were in. Because of the spell, people outside the circle couldn't see, sense or hear them. Seeing the babies, both Simon and Clara froze. Having female children wasn't an issue but having twins was not good because of their family lineage and the circumstances. She didn't say anything, just quietly cleaned the babies with the water before wrapping them in woolen shawls. Simon cleaned his wife while his sister-in-law took care of his children. He was too shocked to utter a word right now, the tension in the air was breathable. Clara used her elemental ability of earth to create a cave-like structure where a fire was lit so they could warm up and rest before morning.
