Assault Part 1

She quickly washed her face and went out of her room. A delicious aroma filled her nostrils, and she followed it to the kitchen to see her mother packing food into a box. "Good morning, Mama, why didn't you wake me?" she rubbed her eyes as she kissed her mother's cheeks and helped her pack the food. "I did try to wake you up, but you looked really tired, and I didn't want to disturb your sleep. How are you feeling? I thought you were going to be sick." Edith asked her, leaving what she was doing to look at her daughter and check if she had a fever. "I'm fine, Mama, I'm not sick. I just slept in, and I was tired yesterday—that may be why." She smiled at her mother's concerned face. "But still, you could have woken me up. I slept right through breakfast, and now I'm starving." She took a plate and served herself food to eat. ‎ ‎"Dear, when you finish eating, take this food to your father. He has a lot of work, so he won't be here for lunch." Meredith informed her daughter. "Okay." She quickly started to finish her food so she could go help her father at the shop. She hadn't gone there for days. ‎ ‎Walking down the street, she held the food box that was wrapped in a small cloth bag to keep it warm. She bowed her head to the people that she came across to offer her greetings and show respect. Some of the women were from the higher class as they rode in their carriage. The place where her father worked wasn't too far from the house, and she would be there in a couple of minutes. "Eve!!!" somebody screamed her name from the street across from her. Her head snapped in that direction, and she saw her friend, who was already crossing the road, almost getting hit by a moving carriage. ‎"Careful, or you might lose your legs," Eve warned her friend. Nuella had a bright smile on her face as she greeted Eve. "Good morning, Eve. Don't worry, a little hit from that weak carriage won't be enough to claim my legs. I'm stronger than that, and you give me way too little credit." She balanced the basket she was carrying on her waist. Both of them talked until she got to her father's shop. "Papa, I've brought food for you and Nicholas," she informed, setting the food down on the table that was a little less crowded with half-finished toys and tools. Upon hearing her voice, her father came out of the work office to meet her in the place where the toys he'd completed were placed for the public to see and admire. Nicholas followed suit and sat down. He was already hungry and couldn't wait to start eating. ‎Eve, who was still admiring the toys, noticed a box at the side. She walked towards it and asked her father, "What's in here, Papa?" The man turned to see her standing near the box that was going out soon. "Those are the toys the customers asked for. I'll go and deliver them later," Simon told his daughter. ‎Eve had a wide grin on her face as she spoke. "Can I do it, please?" She placed her hands together and held them close to her chest while fluttering her eyelashes to convince her father. ‎ ‎Simon knew he couldn't change her mind, so he agreed to let her take them. He gave her the list of people she would give the toys to. ‎ ‎When she was ready to leave, she heard Ella tell her father about a woman whose husband had opened a new clothing store, so she would be looking for someone to make new mannequins for her. ‎ ‎Going to the first house on the list, she read the name again to make sure she was at the right place. She knocked on the door, which was opened by a young girl. "Hi, is Mrs. Isabella home?" The girl shook her head to indicate she wasn't. "Do you have the toys?" the girl asked. "Yes, here you go," she gave her the ones that had her mother's name on them. ‎Eve had been walking for some time now, and she was at the last house. ‎When the door was opened, she saw a woman smile at her. Beside her stood a little boy who was bubbling with excitement for his new toys. "Good evening, Mrs. Gladis," she gave her the last set of toys. "Hello, Eve, how are you and your family doing?" Gladis held a conversation with her. "I'm fine, and we're all doing great, thanks for asking," she gave the woman a bright smile. "Alright, we'll talk later. Bye, send my greetings to your family." Mrs. Gladis waved her hand, and Eve walked away from there, stretching her body as she felt tired. ‎ ‎The sun had gone down, telling her it was almost evening. She started heading home so she could make dinner. ‎ ‎She walked on the road that had turned quiet. As she walked, she came across a man, and she would have kept walking if the man hadn't stopped her to talk.
