"Good morning mum" Heavin said as soon as she entered the kitchen. She met her mum peeling the yam, so she went to where the food time table was pasted and saw they were eating yam with egg sauce being a Saturday. "Good morning baby, how was your night?" Her mum said still concentrated on the yam she is peeling "Fine mum. Yours?" Heavin asked back "It was okay. Pick some tomatoes and scotch bonnet and dice it," Her mum commanded "Okay mum." She replied Heavin picked the fresh peppers and tomatoes and diced it as her mum commanded. "So baby, there is this thing I wanted to talk to you about," Her mum said as she interrupted Heavin thoughts "Okay mum, what is it about?" She asked her mum as she felt nervous "I could have brought it up since but I don't want your dad to know about it and yesterday we had a visitor," Mrs Oghenetega said as she rinsed the yam into the pot "Mum, please tell me. You are scaring me already," Heavin said as her palm were beginning to get wet. This usually happen to her whenever she is scared of something "Don't be scared Princess. So what am about to tell you, see it like it is your elder sister that is advising you and not your mum," Mrs Oghenetega said with a reassuring smile which caused Heavin to smile also "Okay mum," She said "Who was that guy I saw you with two days ago that was on dread?" Her mum asked which caused Heavin off-guard "Mum, he is my friend," Heavin managed to say "Common young lady, I know he is your friend and I don't know where you guys have become friend because friends like that ain't worth your time," "Mum!" Heavin shouted already getting irritated by what her mum was saying "Will you listen to me, young lady," Mrs Oghenetega fired back... "You are beautiful, you are sexy, I can't do without you, blah blah blah...you are too young to start listening to those and guys that tell you those are only after one thing, which is s*x. You are just like an orange to them, when they suck all the sweetness in it, they will eventually discard it," Mrs Oghenetega explained "Mum, he is just an harmless friend," Heavin said sadly "That is what you made yourself believe, did you ever know what he is thinking about you? Did you ever know if he have bad intentions?" She asked Heavin who nodded negatively "No right. That is because, you only know what is in your mind not what others are thinking about you. Where have you both met?" Mrs Oghenetega asked "In the street, he stays three house before us," Heavin explained "With his parents?" Her mum asked her "No mum," Heavin replied "What! Omotekoro, how can you keep a friend like that, you are too young for all this. A guy that stays alone?.." She paused as she placed her hands on her waist..."No that is the height of it. What if he asked you to come visit him, you will go right, because your mum allows you to go out?" Mrs Oghenetega said angrily "No mum, he hasn't even asked me to visit him," Heavin replied nonchalantly "Can you hear yourself well, so if he asked you to come, you will go. See, there is just one thing I want to tell you and the thing is that I don't like your association with that boy so you have to cut whatever you guys had going be it friends or anything," Mrs Oghenetega said "Mummy," "Don't mummy me, I have made myself clear. Am not saying you shouldn't keep male friends because I see the way you relate with your brother's friends and they seems responsible and if in case anything should happen, I trust your brother to take care of things but this guy is entirely different. He doesn't seem responsible. So baby, go and cut ties with him, he is a bad influence to you. Hope have made myself clear?" Mrs Oghenetega said pleadingly drawing her ears out in a dramatic way "Yes mum. Thank you so much Ma," Heavin said half kneeling "You welcome Princess. And at this stage of your life, you shouldn't place boys over books. Men these days love successful women, no man want to marry a liability, so you have to face your studies," Heavin mum explained "Yes aunt, no man wants an unsuccessful woman," Valerie chipped in as soon as she entered into the kitchen "Oh, Omarmerhi, you are awake?" "Yes aunt. Good morning Ma and thanks for yesterday," Val said smiling "Don't mention baby. How was your night?" Mrs Oghenetega asked "Fine Ma, getting used to Nigeria life," Val said "That is nice Valerie. So as I was saying sister, you need to focus on your books. WAEC, NECO, GCE and JAMB is around the corner," Mrs Oghenetega said facing Heavin which caused her to roll her eyes without her mum's knowledge "I know Ma," She replied her "And I hope you know what that means, you are not registering twice" Her mum explained while Valerie looked at them as she was lost in their world "Yes Ma," Heavin replied "Okay Princess. Omarmerhi, after eating, your uncle and I will like to have some discussions with you about your schooling here," Mrs Oghenetega said facing Val "Okay Ma," She replied As soon as they finished eating, Valerie went to her room to freshen up. Not long after she entered her room, did she heard a knock on the door. "Who is there?" Val asked "It's me, Heavin," Heavin replied from the other side of the door "Oh, come in," Val replied "Dad and Mum wants your presence in the living room," Heavin said as soon as she entered into the room "Okay babe, tell them I will be with them in a while," Val said "Okay Cuz," Heavin said as she opened the door Valerie wore a black top with a jean bum short as soon as Heavin left her room. She sprayed her perfume and left the room to the living room to meet her uncle. "Uncle you asked of me," She said as soon as she got to the living room "Yes Valerie. We have an important issue to discuss with you, so please have your seat," Mr Oghenetega said "Okay sir," She replied as she sat down on one of the couch "Valerie, we want to discuss about your schooling here because I promise your parents that I will enrol you to the best secondary school and this prompt me to think about enrolling you to the school your cousins attend, or honey what did you think about it?" He said facing his wife for her opinion "That is a nice idea love. Glitz Queen College is a nice secondary school. Apart from the friendly environment, it has standard science laboratories with modernized equipments, best and educated teachers, up to date books in their library, lecture-friendly classrooms, well equipped hostels and so on, am sure you will really love it there," Mrs Oghenetega finished with a smile "Yeah Valerie and you will also meet people of your standards there," Mr Oghenetega said backing his wife up "Wow, with the way you both advertised the school, I will give it a shot," Valerie said beaming with smile "That is nice baby girl," Mr Oghenetega said "Lest I forget, what department are you?" Mrs Oghenetega asked "Arts department Ma," Valerie replied "So perfect, Heavin also is in the Arts," "That is nice," Valerie said "Yeah baby," "Okay Ma and thank you once again," Valerie said smiling "Don't mention Val, I will get back to your parents on what we just said and give you the feedback. And lest I forget, you will be enrol into Senior Secondary School 2," Mr Oghenetega said "Okay uncle. Can I go back to my room?" Val asked "Yes, you are free to go," "Okay Sir." Valerie said finally
