CHAPTER 19 — ASHES OF ALLEGIANCE

The city of Reigahara had become unrecognizable. Buildings lay in jagged ruins, streets cracked and twisted under the Crown’s pulse. Rain fell intermittently, sharp and cold, cutting through the night like shards of glass. Each drop carried the electric hum of energy still lingering in the air. Myra-Chin and Azuka-Lin stood at the edge of a collapsed plaza, crimson-gold and silver-black auras flaring like twin suns in the darkness. They were bruised, soaked, and exhausted, but their eyes burned with unbroken resolve. The monolith still pulsed in the distance, a jagged tower of golden-black energy that had become both enemy and teacher. “We can’t keep this up forever,” Azuka muttered, shadow blades cutting arcs through the rain. “The Crown… it’s testing us nonstop. And if we falter just once…” “Then we won’t falter,” Myra replied, voice tight but steady. Crimson threads of energy laced her arms, twisting and coiling like molten wires. “We’ve survived every challenge it’s thrown at us. That’s all it knows.” Azuka’s silver eyes narrowed. “But there’s something else. I feel it… something moving beneath the city.” Myra frowned. “You’re not imagining it. Something alive… apart from the Crown.” She scanned the fractured streets, feeling the energy pulse beneath the asphalt. “I think someone’s waiting for us.” The first warning came as a tremor, soft at first, then growing into a violent quake that cracked the street between them. Shadows moved unnaturally along the ruins, and golden-black fragments of energy erupted from the monolith, scattering debris like deadly hail. Then a figure emerged from the smoke and shattered asphalt—a man dressed in dark armor that shimmered with faint gold veins. His presence was immediate and suffocating, a blend of authority and menace. He moved with unnatural precision, stepping across the rubble without hesitation. Azuka whispered, “Who… what is that?” “My guess,” Myra said grimly, “is someone the Crown sent… or someone who wants the Crown for themselves.” The figure stopped a short distance away, energy pulsing faintly from his body. “Myra-Chin. Azuka-Lin,” he said, voice low, resonant, and commanding. “The Crown tests all who claim its power. Few survive. Fewer still can wield it.” Myra narrowed her eyes. “And you are?” “I am Ashiro Kazuma,” he replied, golden veins of energy tracing across his armor. “Chosen of the old bloodlines, heir to what the Crown once recognized. And I have come to claim what is rightfully mine.” Azuka’s shadow blades extended fully, hum vibrating in rhythm with the storm. “You’re insane,” she spat. “You think you can take this from us?” Ashiro smiled faintly, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “I don’t think. I know.” Before either girl could react, he moved. Faster than thought, his body blurred, energy slicing through the rain. Myra reacted instantly, spinning crimson threads forward to intercept him. Sparks flew as his armor collided with her energy, sending shockwaves through the surrounding rubble. Azuka leapt beside her, shadows forming lethal crescents around her arms. The three of them clashed in the broken streets, energy and shadow colliding with golden-black power from the Crown that wrapped around them like molten chains. Ashiro was a whirlwind of precision. Every strike was calculated, every movement a deadly dance. He disarmed Azuka in one sweeping arc, forcing her to flip backward and recover. Myra’s threads wrapped around him, attempting to bind him, but he shrugged them off with a burst of golden energy that sent her skidding across shattered asphalt. “You’re strong,” Myra admitted, rising to her feet. “But strength isn’t everything.” Ashiro tilted his head. “You’ve survived, yes. But surviving is not claiming. Claiming requires domination.” Azuka’s voice trembled with effort. “Then we won’t let you dominate anything!” Shadows coiled and struck, cutting energy fragments from the air. The three of them clashed again, their powers colliding in the fractured plaza. Golden-black shards of energy struck the ground, detonating in molten light that tore concrete into jagged spikes. Myra’s crimson threads weaved with Azuka’s shadows, forming a lattice of protection that forced Ashiro back. But he smiled through the assault, unfazed. “Impressive,” he said, energy rippling from his form. “But your unity is shallow. The Crown will test your bond, and I will exploit every flaw.” He struck again. This time, Azuka was thrown to the side, her aura flickering. Myra’s threads whipped to catch her, but Ashiro’s power surged in tandem with the Crown, shaking the city itself. Buildings trembled and cracked, a shower of debris cascading around them. Myra grit her teeth, crimson-gold threads spiraling outward. “We are unity,” she shouted. “Stronger than you think!” Azuka’s eyes gleamed silver. “Together.” They collided with Ashiro again, energy and shadow intertwining, lashing outward in a brilliant storm. The monolith pulsed violently, golden-black light raining down. Ashiro staggered for the first time, eyes widening as the combined force of Myra and Azuka pinned him against a fractured wall. “You… How…?” he gasped, energy flickering. “Because we’re not just surviving,” Myra said, crimson threads wrapping around Ashiro like molten wire, “we’re shaping everything around us. And you… are nothing to the Crown unless it chooses you.” Ashiro roared, golden veins of energy bursting violently from his armor. The shockwave lifted debris, tearing streets apart. Myra and Azuka were thrown back, landing hard, but they rose immediately, energy flaring in tandem. Azuka’s voice was sharp, commanding: “He’s strong, but he’s human. We’re… more.” More than human. More than survivor. The Crown’s resonance pulsed within them, threads of golden-black, crimson-gold, and silver-black coiling together into a single, powerful current. They rose as one, energy enveloping their bodies like molten storm. Ashiro charged again, and the collision was cataclysmic. Streets cracked beneath them, fragments of golden-black energy falling like deadly rain. Sparks and shadows flew in every direction. Buildings trembled, glass shattered, and the rain carried an electric hum that pierced the storm. For a moment, time seemed suspended. Myra’s crimson threads and Azuka’s shadows intertwined perfectly, coiling around Ashiro, lifting him off his feet as their combined energy flared. The Crown pulsed, golden-black fragments spinning overhead, orbiting them like molten stars. “Do you feel it?” Myra shouted over the roar of collapsing streets. “We’re not just fighting him… we’re commanding the battlefield!” Azuka’s voice trembled but was firm. “And nothing he throws can break our bond. Nothing!” The monolith pulsed violently, light cascading across the city. Ashiro’s armor cracked, golden veins sparking and flickering, energy dispersing. The Crown’s resonance hummed through the plaza, as if approving the girls’ synchronization. Ashiro screamed in frustration, lashing out with a surge of golden energy. But the girls were ready. Crimson-gold threads and silver-black shadows coiled around the attack, absorbing the force and redirecting it into the fractured streets. A wave of molten light and shadow swept outward, knocking Ashiro off balance, forcing him to retreat. Breathing heavily, Azuka extended her blades, energy still pulsing violently. “This ends now.” Myra nodded, threads coiling around her hands. “Together.” The two girls charged, energy intertwining into a storm of gold, crimson, and silver-black. Ashiro tried to counter, but the Crown pulsed in tandem with them, guiding their strike, amplifying their bond. They collided with him midair, energy detonating in a storm that shattered streets, collapsed buildings, and sent shockwaves across Reigahara. When the dust settled, Ashiro lay pinned by the coiled lattice of threads and shadows, armor fractured, energy flickering. He looked up at the girls, eyes wide with disbelief and fury. “You… survived… the Crown’s test,” he muttered. “You… are…” Myra’s crimson-gold eyes glinted. “Stronger than you imagined. And we’re not done yet.” Azuka’s silver-black aura flared. “This is only the beginning. The Crown, the city, and anyone who comes after us… we face them together.” The monolith pulsed one last time, golden-black fragments orbiting overhead, before dimming slightly, acknowledging the girls’ victory. The Crown’s resonance whispered faintly, almost approvingly: > You have survived… but the trials have only begun. The city trembled, but the girls stood tall amid the ruins. Rain fell around them, electric hums vibrating in their bones. They had faced the first external challenge, defeated an heir of the old bloodlines, and proven the strength of their bond. And yet, both knew: the Crown’s true tests were far from over. They were no longer just survivors. They were the heirs of something far greater. Something unstoppable. The Crimson Resonance had awakened fully. And Reigahara would burn before anyone dared to challenge them again. ---
