As they sat around the fire telling of their stories of the ladies, they left back home Georgi and his fellow battle buddies were surrounded by his fellow soldiers.

“What is going on here” Georgi yelled

“Oh, didn’t you know” Hristo hissed “your kind our what’s wrong here seems our prime minister finally agrees”

“What does that mean” Georgi pleaded “we are brothers in arms we have fought beside you for over a year, I don’t understand how you can be like this”

“Look Histro I think he is just as dumb as the rest” said Vasil with a giggle

“Is that true Georgi, are you that stupid that you can’t realize that not only have you been securing the area with us, but you have also started the demise of you people” says Histro with a large grin on his face

The men that surrounded Georgi and his battles started beating them. Punch after punch landed on Georgi’s head. He started to feel something warm and sticky run down his face, through his disbelief he knew through the copper smell that it was blood, but how did Histro and his goons get the best of them. Georgi had amazing military records. He knew that his country would do this to him it had to be some kind of a joke. Before he could ponder any more Geogi passed out cold on the ground.

As Georgi was waking up, he felt pain and lots of it. It was all over. His head was pounding, and he tried to sit up straight. “ow “rang from Georgi’s mount as he pulled himself up “shhhhh” said Yordan a recruit that just joined a few months back. “We aren’t allowed to make noises” begged Yordan as Georgi’s head looked up, he saw the dire situation that he was in. He and the rest of his battle buddies were tied up in a cage. What is this, he thought? Each of them was covered in blood and Histro and his goons are guarding them. At this moment Georgi realized that this “war” was more than a “war” this was something more sinister and evil.

Georgi regretted leaving Anna, he wanted to be with her right now. He would do anything to hold her right now. Just then Georgi saw Stefan he was on the other side of the cage up against a tree. He made his way over to Stefan. “psst” Georgi said as low as he could be. “Stefan please, please listen to me “Stefan glance through a side eye, he may not agree with what was going on, but he was not about to show it or else he would end up the same way that Georgi has. “Look Stefan you don’t need to talk to me, or even look at me but if I don’t make it out of her can you please just mail this letter to Anna for me and let her know that I love her” Georgi pulled out a letter slowly and cautious as he slowly he placed it on the ground just under the dirt but in view of Stefan.

Ugh Stefan thought in this head why did he care they told him that Georgi and these other men were the enemy. He didn’t know what they did but the entire military would not make something up just to. But Stefan new Anna he was her neighbor, so out of respect to her he did a side nod to Georgi and showed that he saw where the letter had been place and would let Anna know and with that Georgi was content even though he would like to tell Anna himself he knew from how everything was playing out that he wouldn’t be able to get back to Anna that his last day with her even though it was just a month ago it now felt like ages and he would never lay his eyes on his beautiful wife again.

They executed Georgi and his friends with side remarks such as f****** traitors, Jews, cockroaches, slime, scum. After the execution Stefan and Petar had to place the bodies in one big hole. Before he was done Stefan picked up the note and finished what they were doing and sat down and wrote his own note to Anna.

Dearest Anna,

I don’t know what Georgi had done, everything was swell and all of a sudden, we had to lock him up. I want you to know Anna out of respect for our long friendship I did not take part in his execution even though it was made clear that we all participate.

Georgi loved you very much and would love to be with you right now it is just not in his cards and out of his control.

Maybe one day you will forgive me, but I do want you to know that you should leave and take refuge anywhere you can. I can tell you from here that this is not over with and will continue to get worse and it is not a world for your beauty and kindness.

There are no words that can express my deepest condolences but just know that in heart I am always there for you. Take this as a warning due to circumstances the next time we meet I will have to kill you too.

As Anna finished the letter she sobbed and fell to the ground. Her loving husband was executed and for what? She didn’t know all she knew was she needed to leave and fast, her unborn child. Their unborn child depended on it.
