Chapter 2

Marriage? Unbelievable. Elara watched in silence as the rest of the announcement passed in a blur, and the Black Cardinal finally left with his details and numerous cars. “You can’t do this,” Elara protested. “And who are you to tell me what to do?” Romania shot back. “It’s been a week since Dad died. You should at least pay him the respect of honoring his death. Let his body go cold before you turn to the next willing man.” Romania was furious. She didn’t let Elara’s words land and she raised her hand and gave her a dirty slap. “Watch your mouth around me and don’t you dare insult me again. Leave my presence.” She ordered. Elara ran out in tears and quickly dialed her brother. “Hello? Elara.” Clive answered. “You need to come home.” Elara cried into the phone. “What’s going on there? Is Mom treating you badly?” He asked, his voice rising in panic. “Mom is getting married." "She can't do that!" Clive shouted into the phone. “I tried to tell her that. Just come home and talk to her, please. She’s going to tear the entire pack down.” “Fine. Just stay calm till I get there.” Elara nodded and hung up. She waited for her brother. Soon, she heard the familiar sound of his car pull up into the main pack house. She stood up immediately, and Clive walked in. “Tell me everything that is going on.” He demanded. “I got home from school and she was in a meeting with that ruthless alpha, and then they made the announcement that they were getting married,” Elara replied in one breath. “Where is she?” “In her office.” Clive stormed out. “Get out of my way.” He commanded the guards. They nodded and cleared the path for him to pass. He pushed the door open forcefully and barged in. "Clive? What the hell are you doing here?” Romania asked. “You're getting married?” “So your sister couldn’t keep her damn mouth shut." “No, Mom. You’re going to tell me what this is about.” “I’m trying to strengthen the pack, so I’m forming an alliance." “No. You don’t think I’m capable enough to handle the pack, that’s why you’re doing this. I’m going to be the Alpha of the Stone Pack and I don’t need you to meddle in my affairs. Keep your marriage and alliances away from my territory.” Clive roared. “You’re not getting married to anyone. Not until the mourning period is over.” He then walked out on her only to find Elara standing at the door eavesdropping on them. He opened his mouth to yell, but his phone rang, cutting off the words he was about to say. “Hello, Carl. What’s up?” At the mention of that name, Elara’s eyes widened like saucers. Carl has been her brother’s best friend for years, and she had a little crush on him. “No, I’m at the residence.” Clive kept talking into the phone. “Yes. You can come up here.” Elara squeaked. Clive eyed her and hung up the phone. “Carl will be here soon. Don’t stare at him like a creep.” Clive warned. Elara nodded and ran up to her bedroom. She quickly changed out of her jeans and sweatshirt into a sundress. While she was applying lip gloss on her lips, she heard the sound of his car. She slid the curtain open just so she could watch him come out of the car. His gentle prowl exuded so much charm. Laughter echoed downstairs from the living room. Elara sucked in a huge breath and walked downstairs. The two men stopped dead in their tracks when they saw her. “Why did you change clothes?” Clive asked. “I need to create content for school.” She lied. “Come on, man.” Clive led Carl out of the door. Carl’s eyes were still glued to Elara’s. When they walked out, Elara let out a breath of relief. She tried to think of other things she could do to cross paths with him, but a sudden bang sounded on the gate. Two guards rushed out to open it. A burly man stormed in looking like he was ready to commit murder. “What do you want?” Duno asked him fiercely. “The alpha has ordered me to come and get his son.” The burly man answered harshly. “What son?” Duno fired back. Alpha Roscoe stepped out from behind his goon. “Cardinal?” Duno called in a stern voice. “This can be considered an invasion." “I’m just here to get my son,” Roscoe replied calmly. “Your son isn’t here.” “What is going on?” Clive asked rushing to the scene. His face clouded in anger when he saw Roscoe. “And what are you doing here?” Clive demanded. Roscoe didn’t answer. “Roscoe. Why did you come back?” Romania asked in a sickly sweet voice. “Come back?” Clive quizzed. “You mean he’s been here before? When I'm alpha, I'll make sure you don't trespass in my pack." “I’m afraid that’s not happening,” Roscoe replied calmly. “Go govern your own pack. You have no right over mine.” Clive barked. Roscoe’s gaze shifted to Romania. “Do you want to tell him, or should I?” He asked calmly. “Be careful with your words, Clive. The Black Cardinal is going to be the alpha of this pack soon.” Romania said. “What is that supposed to mean?” Clive demanded. Romania walked over to Roscoe and took his hand in hers. "We're getting married.” She said. “And after our marriage, your alpha second is going to enthrone me as the Alpha of this pack, and I’m going to merge it with my cardinals, and I’m going to rule over you. And when my reign is over, I will transfer the powers to my son. There is no place for you, Clive.” Roscoe finished. "You are insane, and I won’t let you destroy everything my father has built.” He looked between the two of them. Roscoe’s jaw ticked angrily. “I’m going to make your life miserable if you don’t get in line. Now bring me my damn son so I can get the hell away from this shithole.” “What is going on?” Carl asked suddenly appearing in the hallway. Clive went off about how ridiculous Roscoe was being and about how he would make sure that Roscoe didn’t get anywhere near his pack and his inheritance. “Oh, just shut up,” Roscoe ordered Clive. Then, he turned to Carl. “Let’s go home, son.” He ordered. Clive froze. “What? The? Hell?” Clive’s jaw dropped.
