Monday rolled in. After spacing out again in the subjects I had the entire morning, it was now my Biology class held at the science lab. The last class I had for the morning and would be the last class before we took our lunch.
I don’t know what’s happening to me. I’ve been staring at the flasks and Petri dishes, together with the microscope the entire time that was set right in front of me. At some point I thought it’d melt the more I stared at it like somewhat I had my superpowers.
Kai sat on my left while Izzy sat attentively on my right. We were grouped by three this morning for the laboratory work the entire year. Kai was near to closing his eyes in the middle of Mr. Webber's discussions. He’s been teaching here his whole life. He has handled other subjects until he finalized that he’d stick to Biology.
I nudged Kai’s shoulder when his head dropped to his side. Did this dude sleep? He’s more stressed out than I was. Is the training too hard? Just for him to play and not stay on the bench this season?
I nudged Izzy lightly instead and whispered. “When’s the Lacrosse tryouts?”
“I’ve heard that the screening was last week. Today the coach and the rest of the team decide who gets in and who’ll be able to play this season. They’re finalizing it this afternoon right after classes.”
I nodded at her, not bothering to go to further into discussions. He did really work hard. I hope he gets in. Kai Waters has already proved himself. He’s been waiting for this the entire summer. The Lacrosse team should give him the chance. If they were accepting some players who sucked at the game, Kai deserved it more.
Mr. Webber’s voice was deep and enough to alert everyone with his tone. But for now, it was noise to my ears who wanted to listen to nothing as of the moment. I fidget on whatever my hand could play with without breaking them.
I retrieved glue out of my bag and placed a generous amount that’s enough for my hand. I spread it to completely cover my palm. Boredom did strike. I did my best to wave my hand to let it dry. Enough to not catch the attention of Mr. Webber who was really into whatever he was discussing.
I blew on it. It was quick drying glue so in a few minutes this would dry up completely. Izzy turned her head to me, with her eyes narrowed at my hand.
“Dude, what the hell are you doing?” She hissed at me quietly.
“Boredom happened. This one is a stress reliever, you know.” I uttered.
“How is putting glue on your sweaty palm a stress reliever?”
“You wait for it to dry and peel it off without breaking its perfection on how it molded your palm…” I defended in a confident tone. “You want to try?”
“Nope, I’m done. Thank you. I better listen. Since you haven’t been listening lately and dear mister Waters is sound asleep beside you. He’s really eager to join Lacrosse this year.” She frowns as he fixes her gaze to sleeping Kai beside me.
“Let’s just support him. He needs that.” I looked at her.
This is the least we could do. Support each other. If Kai wants to join the Lacrosse team, let him. I hope they wouldn’t also stop me from leaving town like Titus wants me to.
“I remember. We should catch up during lunch on what happened this weekend.” She beamed like her head generated a smart idea.
I just nodded, focusing on the glue that fully dried up on my palm. I wouldn’t know which part I should tell her. It wasn’t so eventful anyway. My brothers and mom's issues are the usual ones. Other than Titus.
I peeled it off like how masks are peeled off of beauty regimens of girls who stick to their regimens strictly. I was able to peel it off without breaking the pieces. Until the bell rang and got me. I tore it off. Completely breaking how perfect it was. Ugh!
I nudged Kai who woke up, with his disheveled hair. “Morning, Waters!” I teased him as he looked around. People were piling out of the lab.
Mr. Webber was fixing now his things and erasing the writings on the board. The moment he erased the lower portion of the writings, he then left the room. Izzy just crossed her arms as we waited for Kai to get himself straight.
“You know, if you want to survive varsity, you better get some decent amount of sleep. God knows whatever you’ve been doing. Calm down, dude. Just trust yourself, and you’ll get in.” Izzy commented.
“Yeah, we barely saw you last week. Good luck for today though. I hope you make the cut and be able to play this season!” I smiled at him as I added.
“I hope I do get in. I just really want to be part of the team. I’ve tripled my efforts. I hope it does pay off.”
Kai straightened his clothes and grabbed his bag beneath the table. We then got out of the laboratory. The rest of the students rush to get to the cafeteria.
“So what happened to your date, Izzy? After knowing that the party you were talking about was held in my house…” I asked dryly.
“I was looking for you the entire time! I was confused and shocked at the address for a minute. But yeah, of course, it wouldn’t be you but your brothers. My date was okay… He was pretty chill and cool. I don’t think we have the same music taste. But so far, overall… he’s a cute guy.” Izzy explained.
“That’s a good thing you enjoyed your time with him. When do we get to meet him anyway?”
“Real soon… He’s a mystery guy for now. Where were you the entire night if your brother partied all night?”
“Walked around town to grab some ice cream,” I replied. I feel guilty for leaving Titus out but at least let me enjoy myself in peace for once. I don’t want them pestering me with a lot of questions.
“And let me guess? You’re the cleanup girl again when the morning came? Your brothers are really dumbasses sometimes. They’re hot and all but they shouldn’t keep doing that to you.”
There was a silent pause between us. Kai then trailed. “Yeah..”
If my head was afloat every class time, Kai was also in outer space when we talked about things. His head was too consumed with the Lacrosse application. He was scared and thrilled. It was clear that he was nervous, he had a tune in his head that kept him going, to calm him down for a bit.
“Yeah, I even argued with the greatest mother of all.” I expounded more without going further on the specifics.
Before turning to the hallway that led to the cafeteria, a bunch of girls and a couple of photographers were herding on someone. They huddled together like they were focused on someone. In which, this only happens when there’s a new student in Willoughby. The journalism club and photographers make an article for the newbie.
I wondered who it was. But I don’t want to think of the person who I might think it is. My heart beats faster. I bit my lip as Izzy tried to tiptoe and take a clearer look at who it might be and if we knew the guy.
They were now moving. This person should be a celebrity. They really bothered the new student in school. And I feel sorry for them.
Kai leaned his sleepy head on my shoulder, “Who’s the star?”
“Can’t take a clearer look at him. But I’ve heard he’s a year younger than us. But is in the same year as us since he excelled. “
“If he’s in town ever since school started, why did he just start school in the 2nd week of classes? That’s just weird. Willoughby is giving him too much privilege.” I muttered with harshness. “Isn’t he supposed to be called out by Principal Austin?”
“Maybe he bribed Willoughby through donations… Or maybe he’s just the usual bad boy who cuts in between classes?” Kai questioned sleepily.
“Where does he come from?” I raised an eyebrow. My heart wanted to explode. Did Titus lie to me? He’s now the star of Willoughby.
The crowd that surrounded him filled the hallway with so many screams and shrieks echoing. Was he that handsome that girls would kneel for him and worship him? Yuck. The girls were called out to step aside and let him pass by. They finally obliged, giving him passage.
“A city, I guess? Based on his looks… he had great fashion sense.”
“Does he have a name?” Kai inquired flatly.
We were staring at a black-haired guy, who had creamy skin. He wore a leather jacket that hugged him to perfection, embracing his muscles. All he wore was all black. Black jacket, a plain black shirt, black pants, and black boots. Thankfully, he wasn’t Titus. I wanted to thank the heavens! I sounded selfish, for a second.
Izzy faced both me and Kai who looked bored at gaping at the new guy. “Of course he has! If I’m not mistaken, his name is Calyx.”
I gasped for air. Not Titus. Thank god! Praise the heavens. He seemed familiar for some reason. I couldn’t just take my mind into it.
It was rude to stare but he really caught everyone’s attention. It made everyone stop and stare. He was an epitome of a bad boy. He had the strongest jawline, which made him more attractive. The reason why girls were towering over him. He just smirked at them. I didn’t know if he’s a good guy with how he carries himself with so much conceit and confidence.
A mess is clearly written on his face. This year would be interesting having him over. If my brothers had their labels together with the famous Ryder, they were up in such a serious competition with the new guy, Calyx.
