CHAPTER 31

1700 Words
As I recall, yesterday was eventful from having my brothers' stalking mission down to our mother's scene with her new boyfriend who was the former governor's grandson who must've been several years older than my brothers. We planned the entire night about what to do with that dinner we're allegedly having.  My brothers were so stoked that they've written down the plans--what to do, who to invite, what to buy--but the only thing missing was when. They're having a game next week so it must happen after that. Before they love pissing me off and now this is new that we were now pissing our mother off.  We've stayed up until 2 AM to talk about what was going to happen on the night we're having that meet and greet. Spent the entire night in front of the fireplace to get rid of how cold it was and also thought that our mom would come home by then but now that it was 9 in the morning as my wall clock says, I still don't think that she came home.  I groaned at the thought of rain behind my curtain but I also don't think it was sunny. My curtain was dark that it covered my windows well and not completely blind me with its sunlight early in the morning. With the curtains drawn, my room looked like a vampire's lair. Dark but liveable enough.  I was already wrapped up with my cozy blanket and sweaters but still, the air felt like it was winter. I rubbed my face down to my eyes to finally wake myself up. With how chilly it was, it was best to sleep in. It would be great anyway since it was a Sunday.  "Tssss...." I shivered with the light breeze.  Tomorrow's Monday. Again. I groaned a little more loudly in frustration. Though, the teachers were kind enough not to lend us some assignments for the weekend for us to enjoy the last days of the town anniversary festivities. They also didn't want the hassle of checking the assignments so we were free the entire weekend to have fun.  I'm slowly getting consumed with sleepiness and laziness but I shuffled out of my bed and grabbed the robe that's finely hung at my chair and wrapped it around me. The moment my soles landed on the floor, it creaked as if I broke the ice.  "Shiiit...fuck.fuck. Coooooold," My teeth were chattering.  It's also my fault that I left my comfy ugg-like slippers down the stairs not thinking that it would bring me comfort in these needing times. I continue to wrap myself with my arms as I ran down the stairs. The floor creaked, making noise, and really gaining people's attention with how I paced myself running down. These annoying stairs might wake my brothers up, no matter how calm you might be when you come down them.  The moment I reached the bottom of the stairs, I slipped on my fluffy slippers to warm my feet. Somehow it helped. But the warmth from the fireplace was the best. I slowly made my way to the living room but a figure on the dining table made me jump to the side.  "Jesus, Aiden! What the hell?" I shrieked almost all profanities at my brother who sat like a stone, staring blankly at the table and didn't bother moving.  "What did I do?" He asked with no hint of presence in his voice.  "You're sitting there like a ghost. You didn't move nor blink and with what you're wearing... you really look like a ghost." I replied. He wore a white shirt and he looked pale too. Aiden looked like a ghost.  "Where are you going? Why are you in a hurry?" His voice was clueless yet his face was priceless with how blank it was. He might be physically sitting at the dining table but was mentally elsewhere.  "Fireplace? It's so cold..." My voice is croaky as it broke out. I added, "What are your plans today?" "Stay in... Watch a movie and chill? It's a Sunday after all. No assignments and stuff to do," Aiden leaned on his elbow. "How about you? Sure, Willoughby always gives out the memo every anniversary of Castle Rock not to give out assignments, and you don't have work today." "I don't know yet? Maybe talk to Kai? And-" My voice broke. "I can let him come over and let's watch a movie the entire day. Let's have lunch and dinner together like the old times..." He smiled lightly at me with his eyes twinkling in excitement. Like the old times. Those dinners we have together were memorable. We spent time together by eating. It was our way of catching up and just talk and enjoy ourselves as a family. Now, mom is alive but physically and mentally absent, always thinking about her boyfriend.  I pause as the thought came rushing in, "Yeah, that'd be great." "But I hope the devil doesn't come home." Aiden shrugs.  "She hasn't come home yet?" My voice came out squeaky.  "Nope," Aiden answered prolonging the p making it pop.  "Well, she's really obsessed with him,"  I commented tonelessly.  "I know right? How did she even meet the guy? Ugh! Let's stop this, I'm making breakfast and calling Kai to come here an hour from now. And Zach must've loved his sleep." He stood up and went to the pantry to fix something up.  "He loves sleeping too much and the reason why he's late most of the time other than making himself look good."  I rolled my eyes. After eating our breakfast that Aiden cooked, the doorbell rang. He ran towards the window to peek first at who it was but realizing that it was Kai, he then opened the door. They both hug the moment their eyes met and felt like they had their own worlds where they melted. The eyes that stared at them didn't bother them. How much more if they finally came out. But I let them be. They need time to figure things out themselves.  "Hey, Andy!" Kai greeted me and walked towards me to give me a hug. Another warming thing this morning. I realized it was cloudy outside with a chance of heavy rain. This is the effect of it. An icy cold breeze.  "Morning, Kai," I gave out a chuckle. "We have a lot of things to catch up on!" I pointed it out.  "Yeah, yeah," He grinned too. Aiden was his happy place.  Aiden brought out a plate that had food in it he reserved for Kai. "Here's food, Mister!" He winked at Kai as he set it on the table.  I watch them back and forth and sat back in my chair as Kai slowly ate his food. "Wait, that night I caught you guys making out, Kai, where did you park your car? Just flirt all you want but not right in front of me... you guys!"   "Just hid it by parking it in front of someone's house. I made sure that my jeep was out of anyone's way. I mean out of sight." He laughed so hard.  My eyes bulged out of their sockets with what Kai just said."You're so mean!"  He pleads guilty with just his eyes and still continues to laugh at how amused he is with what he did. He takes another spoon and chews it finely. "Where's Zach and mother nature?" Aiden says, "Zach is asleep and Mother nature is with the boyfriend in god knows where... probably having a nice vacation in the alps... how she wishes!" "I'm never absent!" Zach calls out when he ran down the stairs, the heavy footsteps vibrating. I laughed silently with Zach's annoyingness. I clutched unto my stomach with how much we laughed this morning. It was exhausting... lunch even didn't start yet.  Zach reached the dining room, never missing the action. He stares at all of us who were seated with his hands on his hips. "Where's my food, dad?" He mimics his younger voice and spoke to Aiden.  Aiden just jokingly groaned and stood up grabbing his plate hidden at one of the shelves. "Here you go, Master." He also mimicked like he was in Star Wars talking to these higher-ups.  "Good or else I would've fired you." He took his seat and also ate in silence and with so much concentration.  Aiden's original other half was Zach. I don't think Kai is the jealous type too. Kai was this person who you would want to tell your secrets to. And comparing Zach and Kai, Kai was the mature one. Aiden needed that kind of voice to keep him going since Aiden grew up too fast with all the responsibility. Kai was the voice at the back of his head.  The bossy Zach is up today. He was more than a jealous b***h than Kai. Maybe it was because they shared Aiden now. Well, Kai's lucky that Zach didn't give him a hard time. If it were a person Zach didn't know, he would've asked him to do insane things and really bossed him around like he was his slave.  "Fire you my ass." Aiden snorted. "If you aren't my brother, I wouldn't care about cooking you some food." We all burst out laughing at what Aiden just said. Lately, everything has been light giving me tons of laugher. Every laugh I had was with Titus and now maybe things just really take time in healing. At one point, everything will be fine. Change is good when you let it evolve properly and most especially, with the right people. The people who leave while you change into the person you're becoming, they're the ones worthy of your time and love.  "Well, I'm firing both of you!" I called out to them evilly.  Zach and Aiden glared at me fiercely and shrieks together, "Fire you my ass!"  And then we burst out in laughter filling the room with positivity and exhaling those bad vibes these past few days. It's a good way to let it go.  With them being here, they're family.  They're home wherever they are... I think.
