Check Mate

*Axel's POV* I hadn't even gotten to the packhouse before Blade was howling in my head. He sensed her, and I did too. But I didn't have time for love. I had gained my Alpha title only a few months ago. People saw me as the dark, cold, ruthless, dangerous Alpha. They were right, in a way. I attacked the Dark Moon pack, but I had my reasons. I stand by my reasons. My mate would have to wait. I walked into the packhouse with my Beta Michael right behind me, and her scent flooded my senses. Mango and honey. Such a sweet aroma tainted by the smell of blood. Blade growled in response to the possibility that it was hers, and before I could catch him, Blade sprinted towards the smell. We rounded the corner, and I growled at the scene. Our mate, as precious as she could be, was underneath some omega who was relentlessly slamming her head into the floor. I struggled to hold Blade back, he snarled and showed his teeth. He was moments away from pushing through and turning into his form. The omega backed away, and our mate looked up at me. "Mate," we said. Her turquoise eyes gleamed in panic at the word. She knew who I was. She had heard what I did. "What the hell is going on over here?" Luna Kelly demanded as she rounded the corner. Her eyes locked on me, "Alpha Axel" "It seems your Omega is beating the Luna of the Shadow Moon Pack." Kelly looked at my mate, head covered in blood, grimaced, and signaled for the omega to get off her. My mate was covered in bruises in different states of healing and scars that should've never formed. I fumed, letting my temper show. "Michael," I called my Beta. "Please see that our Luna gets treated." "That won't be necessary, Alpha Axel. We'll take care of her." Luna Kelly spoke softly, terrified of what I might do. She knew that I saw what my mate had been through, and she knew I had no problem getting revenge on any of their members who had ever spoken to my mate with distaste. "I'm sure you would," sarcasm filled my voice. "Why don't you fetch her things? She'll be coming with me." Regardless of how my mate felt about me, I couldn't leave her in this situation. Even without our wolves, we heal quickly. I've never seen a wolf with scars, and I've only ever seen a wolf with bruises for a few hours. The only explanation is that she's not being treated well, much less seen a pack doctor, ever. Michael confirmed my suspicions when he arrived with his Luna in tow. The pack doctor was extremely confused to see her. Apparently, Alpha Brian and Luna Kelly had ordered the doctor never to treat my precious mate. Blade was as mixed with emotions as I was: furious that our mate had been treated like this, worried about her because I couldn't be right there, and annoyed that we had to attend this bogus meeting. I sat in my chair in a conference room that was much too small for this type of event. There were five original packs and several new packs which had branched off a few decades ago. In total, there are seven packs now. There were ten places at this table for seven Alphas and seven Betas. "Alpha Axel, where is your Beta?" "Beta Mike is with our Luna at the pack hospital." "I wasn't aware you had a mate or that you were bringing her." "I found her here with a bloody skull," I cracked my knuckles to increase my intimidation. "Why don't we get to business?"
