Daisy
I walked into the diner humming and getting to the register to clock in. I waved hi to the cooks and manager and then headed right to the set ups I needed to do. Stuff the evening shift didn’t do. I added salt and pepper, I drank a coffee, I made sure napkins were filled, I had my second coffee, and then I heard bikes, lots of them. I smiled softly as I walked to the front door and waiting on my man who was the first one to the door. He gripped me around my hips and pulled me in tight. His kiss made me weak and needy and I never wanted it to stop.
“Good morning.” I licked my lips as he pulled back.
“It is now. I missed you last night.” He leaned in and kissed my nose and then my forehead and pulled me in in as the guys all got to the door to come in too.
They all went to get the tables set up for them as they usually did it themselves and always made sure to put them all back when they left.
“How has the morning been?” Tank asked me as he sat down at the far right.
“Just got here and no one else was here so I’ve just been doing set up.” I shrugged. It was 6:30 and they all had something to do this morning which is why they were all together and ready for breakfast.
“At least you haven’t been swamped yet.” Kiwi said and he had his menu open and seemed to salivate at the look of all the food.
“Coffees for everyone?” I asked and when I heard all the “yes” I turned and grabbed 6 mugs from the counter and the first coffee pot. I would have to make more but this would do for now. I set them all down and poured and they distributed across the table. “Let me grab 3 more cups and the full coffee pot.”
I got them all settled. Took orders of food and then I noticed them all tense almost as soon as Derek came in. He looked them over as well and didn’t seem to give too much away.
Now I knew why they were all here. To check Derek out as a possible P.I. I gulped and felt drawn to Victor as he glared harder at him than anyone else was. I walked over and slid my hand across his shoulders and he reached back for me immediately.
“You are not going over.” Vic told me and I gulped but nodded. They always had a reason to say or tell me to do things. It wouldn’t be jealousy.
“Let me tell someone to go serve him.” I tapped his shoulder and felt eyes on my the whole way, during the whole discussion with one of the other waitresses and when she went over I started to make a fresh OJ.
I couldn’t say I was surprised to see the glares from both sides as I started the influx of the morning rush. The more I tried to think it was just a normal day the more I could feel tension rising.
By 10 I was a sweaty shaky mess and as much as Bic tried to tell me it would be fine I was worried what this was leading up to.
At 9:59 Derek was smirking looking at them head on before he made a show of sending a message on his phone, the clicking of the text so loud it almost sounded like heels on marble floors.
“I’ve let my client know to reach out.” Was all Derek said as he collected his things and smiled.
“Who is your client?” Tank asked, but I saw Vic ready to stand but he paused and his eyes found mine and he stayed seated.
“He will let you know.” Derek nodded and then looked at me and nodded. “You are the only reason this place runs and makes money.” He told me and I was just stuck as we all seemed to watch him leave.
I had Vic with me the rest of the day. He stayed at the counter and I requested the next day off on short notice just in case because Tank said it would be for the best. We would wait but they didn’t want me to be a sitting duck here while working.
It felt like hours passed in a blink of an eye before Vic was waiting for me to drive off first and he would follow.
We got back to my place and Aiden had his door ajar when I got to my floor. I peaked in and he was just there with his feet up seemingly waiting for us.
“A lawyer came knocking for you.” Aiden called and he stood, grabbed a packet from the side table and brought it to us. Vic waited for me to open it, and it seemed like a request for DNA testing. “What is it?” He asked, peaking over when he probably saw my confusion.
“Maybe they have the wrong…?” I paused seeing my full name and a name I thought sounded familiar. “Oh.”
“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.” Vic told me like he wasn’t sure what he was going to do about this but wanting this to still be my decision.
“I uh…” I wasn’t sure that I cared to know. I didn’t need another shitty parent to disappoint me. I didn’t need to know if this man knew about me as a possible child my whole life or just learned about me recently. The idea of finding out didn’t terrify me, but it didn’t seem like a big deal.
“Let’s think on it.” Vic told me and rubbed over my back before ushering me into my place. I was numb and also so preoccupied. As soon as I sat down with the door closed I had questions.
What did he look like? Did I look like him? Did he have other kids? A wife he has to explain me too? He obviously was the one who hired Derek, it’s probably how he also had my address. Did I want to know him?
Did he think I wanted to know him? Did he know how bad my mother was? Did he leave me there? Did he not care?
Did my mother ever tell him about me? Did he reach out for me and she denied him? Did she lie about my feeling to keep him away?
“You’re thinking hard about this.” I heard Vic state and I looked over and slowly nodded. “Wanna talk to me or work it out inside?”
“I want answers but I don’t want … bad answers.” I whispered the last part and sighed at how pathetic that sounded.
“What would give you bad answers?” He asked like he genuinely couldn’t think of what could happen.
“He could have told my mom to raise me alone. Could have not known about me at all. He could have other kids he raised and I am an outsider.” I could be the one he chose not to raise.
“Daze I can’t tell you what to do on this, but I will be here, for you, for any hurt this can cause, and more importantly any happiness or answers it can bring you.” Vic pulled me in close and rubbed over my back while I seemed to drown in my internal thoughts and emotions.
Victor
I wanted to take this out of her hands. She hasn’t talked about random things because her mind was still reeling from 3 days ago when she got that DNA test form. I looked into it when she didn’t seem to know what to do. He paid for it all already. She didn’t have to do anything but go to the outpatient center and get a cheek swab.
I’d wait for her, but I was already working on protecting her mental health. She’s been dwelling on all the what ifs for days and I needed to bring her back to me.
I had a date planned. She would be off at 2pm and we would head home to get dressed and head out while it was still warm outside.
I had my mom making us dinner to pick up, even had her agree not to keep us. I wanted her mind back to me, to what makes her smile. I had seen enough of her sad and fake happy for a life time when I didn’t allow myself to help. But now that I am her man, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t try to make sure she was smiling and present with me.
I helped her collect her things when she clocked out and she trailed behind me slowly like she was back in her head. I got her into the car, we headed home for her to change and I made sure to check in with my mom via text so that she didn’t know what I was planning.
She came out in short shorts and a skinny little tank top that had given me a great view. I could ignore the bleach marks on her shirt because I liked the view, but it made me want to buy her clothes. I knew she also had shirts with holes in them, mostly from moths. I wanted to take care of her but I don’t ever want her to feel like I am making her change or get rid of things she wants.
I wrapped my arms around her and she leaned only me. But I wanted to look at her face so I slowly raised her arms up to my shoulders and she pulled back when I started to sway with her. “We are going out for dinner. Nothing fancy, but do you wanna take the car or the bike?”
“Bike would be ok.” She whispered to me and I nodded.
“We will cuddle for awhile and then get ready to go. I’ll set an alarm just in case we get all snuggled and fall asleep.” I kissed the tip of her nose and watched a small smile form before I walked her back towards her room. I watched her open the covers and slide in, then wait for me as I got my boots off and stripped more to be comfortable too.
I cuddled her in close and let her fall asleep. Her quiet voice always used to let me know how her home life was going. It wasn’t always bad, but I could tell when it was worse than usual. This was just like it. I didn’t want to think this guy had bad intentions, but she didn’t deserve two horrible parents who stress her out.
I’d find a way to get to him, meet him, ask him what his plan was and determine if he was a good enough person for my girl.
I got her to change into something nice. Tight jeans and a off the shoulder thin shirt with no bra on her t**s. I couldn’t wait to get her back home and take her mind off of it all.
“Ready.” She said as she adjusted her hair after putting on her jacket. I leaned over and kissed her lips before pulling her close and rubbing over her hips and ass as I bring her against me.
“I love you.” I pulled back just enough to say that clearly. Her eyes start watering right away and she tucked her head against me.
“I’ve always loved you Victor, even when I’m a mess and I feel selfish pulling you into all of my crap-“
“I am here because I want to be. I’m not here sticking around for it to get better. I am here making you mine. You are not a mess, you are not pulling me in, you are who you have always been and that’s someone I’ve always wanted.”
“If he is -“ she pauses and seemed shaky as she looked down and twisted her fingers.
“We don’t have to even find out.” I told her and rubbed her sides but she took a deep breath and pulled her eyes up to mine again.
“If he is, I have so many questions.”
I nodded, not knowing what to do. I wanted to encourage her to do what she wanted, but her eyes were telling me she didn’t know what to do.
“What if I call, get a meeting set up, and we can see what he wants with this information.”
She didn’t answer but I could see that the conversation before the test could help her make a decision and know what kind of man he was, if she wanted to be around him, wanted to know him.
“Ok.”
“I’ll get on that later. For now we had an answer for next steps and we could have fun out and about. Now stop overthinking for tonight.” I wanted to beg. I wanted her to relax and talk to me and spend time outside of her head.
“Ok.” She gave me a nod and small smile before leaning up to give my lips a small peck. “Let’s go?” She asked and grabbed my hand and I nodded before pulling my arms up and spinning her out and towards the front door. Before she was too far away I smacked her ass, heard her yelp and then giggle before opening her front door. I made sure to lock up and keep her close the entire way to my bike.
