Chapter Two

2237 Words
I pulled out my cell phone and checked for messages. There were two dozen missed calls from my ex boyfriend, two from Amelia, a few from some work friends, colleagues and others from my mother. I decided that I’ll give my mother a call sometime next week. Work would have to wait till tomorrow. Scrolling through my messages I saw that Amelia had texted me some party pictures of her last night; laughing at her funny faces I texted a joke back to her and then opened my own gallery. There were almost a dozen pictures of me in the bar with that guy, and one in his living room. I put the phone back in my bag and smiled; loosening up was a good idea; every once in a while, it didn’t hurt to have a one night stand. ………………………. I made my way to the restaurant. Amelia was seated at a corner and I noticed her easily because of the way she was dressed. I was so tired and needed this rest. I looked like a train wreck; she looked at me with a smile on her face. “So what happened?” she asked as I sat down. I had just received another call from my assistant at work and had to get up to answer it. “Oh she just wanted an update on some files that I had to send,” I said. “Oh my God, not about your assistant i***t, about him,” she demanded. She had been chewing her nails while I was gone. A habit she had tried to get rid of a million times but she couldn’t. Amelia Stone was a stunning woman, my best friend for almost a decade. We had grown up together in the same neighborhood, with the same friends. We went to the same high school, college and even university. At around 5’6 she was a glamorous red head, who could put guys to their knees just by a shake of her ass or the jiggle of her breasts. Round perky mounds that made teenage boys from 13 to men at fifty salivate at the sight of her. Notorious for dressing in skimpy clothes, Amelia Stone was thirty five, mother of two and a divorcee. Her husband, sorry, her ex-husband had cheated on her with her sister and she had kicked them both out, naked, after taking some pictures. Currently she was battling for custody of her kids and winning almost more than half of what her husband thought she would get. She was a strong minded, collected woman, older than me and perhaps the smartest woman I had come around in my life. She knew her way around men and she owned a successful business which consisted of interior designing. Apart from earning her own money, she was now the owner of a couple of estates, thanks to her cheating husband. She had two sons, Josh and Sam, both adorable, both amazingly smart and both twins. They were ten years old, and they were on their mother’s side, much to their fathers liking. “Well we hung out at the bar for an hour and then we drove to his place. Thank God I didn’t take my car, would have been one hell of a problem. We got down to business after finishing a bottle of vodka. He was f*****g awesome in bed Amelia, like wao!!! My legs hurt and I can barely move. I had to take two painkillers just to get out of bed,” I said feeling myself flush. “Wao, I can’t believe it you b***h, you landed a guy so fast. So when are you meeting him again?” she asked as she sipped on her ice tea. “I’m not meeting him again, gosh why would I? It was a one night stand not a commitment for life,” I said winking at her. “You are such a tease,” she said placing her drink down and then picking up the menu card. “So what shall we eat?” Amelia asked as she pondered over the menu. There is something you should know about her. No matter how much she eats, what she eats, she doesn’t put on an extra pound. This has been the case with her for almost all her life and I hate her for that. “I am going to order some meat,” I said. “I am going to order some carbohydrates,” she notified me smugly. “I hate your body,” I said vehemently. “Oh honey, if you were a guy, you would want to tear me apart,” she said arrogantly. “You arrogant b***h,” I said laughing. “I am confident in all of this,” she said shrugging and then snapping her fingers. I almost fell off my chair laughing. We ordered lunch and quickly finished it, since we had both skipped breakfast. “I thought we should go shopping,” I notified her as we made our way out of the restaurant. “Well, you are smart because I haven’t been out shopping in over two months,” she sounded exhausted. “Well what’s wrong?” I asked stopping to throw a piece of tissue in the bin. We climbed the escalator to the second floor of the mall we were in. I had to buy a few dresses and suits, Amelia would probably buy lingerie or clothes for her kids. They were growing up and fast. “The boys are growing up so fast,” she said as we stepped off. “That’s what happens with kids,” I said joking. “You are so funny, how do you do it?” she said sarcastically. “Go on,” I gestured. “Well, their son of a b***h of a father says he wants to spend more time with the boys since he’s a guy and he knows the kind of friendship they need,” she stated as we marched into Gucci. “He should have thought about that before he cheated,” I said vehemently. “Exactly my thoughts; I controlled my temper this time and told him I’d think about it. I talked it over with the boys and they aren’t so keen on going and living with their father. On the contrary they are quite happy with staying with me. I’m taking them to Disney land this summer, hopefully they will forget what kind of a bastard their father has become and make a decision until then,” Amelia said. “Well isn’t he apologetic about the s**t he made you all go through?” I asked. “He isn’t apologetic because if he was, he wouldn’t have gone and proposed to that little slut bag,” Amelia said hotly. This was her sister she was talking about, a pain in the ass, conniving, and thieving cheating sister. Mary had always been jealous of Amelia’s achievements, whether in personal life or professional. She had always wanted a figure like Amelia’s but she couldn’t so she tried facial surgeries etc. she wanted to have a successful business, but she didn’t succeed in that as well so she sunk all the money. Then she wanted a husband or a boyfriend who could afford her bullshit, who would love her like Amelia was loved, and when she didn’t find anyone like that, she decided to set the score by taking Amelia’s husband Mark. That son of a b***h ruined his fourteen year old relationship just for the chance to f**k and sleep with his wife’s sister. I couldn’t fathom how he could dare and show his face in public, every one of their friends, including me was spitting on his name and cursing him, behind his back and on his face as well. He had turned out to be a lousy guy, who couldn’t be trusted or relied upon. “Excuse me,” someone said as we crossed into the other side of the store. Turning around I saw it was a tall guy, dressed smartly in jeans and a clad white shirt with a blue collar. He was wearing sneakers and by the looks of it, quite expensive ones. “You are Madison Wright, right?” he asked eyeing me keenly. Next to me Amelia straightened up and stifled a laugh. Not again, I thought. “Yes, I am. And you are?” I asked curiously. “My name is David, I’m the owner of your favorite restaurant on 24th street,” he said softly. He had a sexy voice. “I wanted to know if you’re free this weekend, maybe I can offer you a drink and perhaps dinner?” I thought over it, my eyes never wavering off him. He looked like a poor lamb but I knew he was a devil in disguise. I could read his face and tell how urgently he wanted to get me in his pants. I would have to put him down gently. “Oh my God, David I’m sorry but I’m already seeing someone else,” I said. “Dang it,” he said putting on a fake smile. “Are you sure I can’t even take you out for a drink?” he pestered. “Yes I am, it was very sweet of asking you though,” I said trying sound sweet instead of irritated. “Well some other time then?” he said hoping for any way in. “Sure, some other time,” I followed. We said goodbye and went on shopping, purchasing stylish bags and suits and lingerie. “Why didn’t you say yes to him?” Amelia asked as we hopped up in her car. She was dropping me back to the hospital where I worked. I was the Health Administrator at a private hospital called Grace Hospital. “I’m not ready for such a serious commitment and besides, he wasn’t so interested in a relationship,” I commented as I put on my sun glasses. “That is beside the point. Why aren’t you ready for a commitment? You’re young, just twenty eight and already the Chief Operating Officer of Grace Hospital. You get paid well, you’re good with work, and you’re an icon in a few places. What is the big deal in settling down?” she asked as she pulled the car out of the parking lot. “You are saying this? You? After what happened with you?” I asked. “Well yeah. He was a d**k but for the past nine years he was the guy I loved. I feel sorry for him but that doesn’t mean I don’t hold relationships credible. I did fall in love and we had a good marriage and had kids. Look where we both are today. He has his own business, I have mine, kids are growing up and they are healthy.” she said softly. She had been through a lot and she was recovering, I knew but also she was a smart calculated woman with a big heart. She knew what she was saying. “Furthermore,” she continued, “You have to give it a chance. I get being career oriented is good and I support you, but what the hell Madison? Give it a break and go out on a limb, a leap of faith.” “Well I’m not ready for it, I don’t have time for it,” I said stubbornly. She promised. “What’s the matter with you? You ready for another relationship?” I asked as I turned to face her. She pulled off her glasses and winked at me, “You never know,” she said secretively. “You b***h!!!” I screeched as she pulled over. She raised a hand and said, “I’ll drop your clothes by the apartment. Now listen to me. When you give a guy a chance, I will let you on my little secret which is huge by the way.” “You have to tell me now Amelia!” I demanded grinning. This was good news. “Umm let me think about it,” she said pretending to ponder over a very crucial design. “Nope and now, get out of my car woman.” “I’m not moving. I have never kept secrets from you and I swear to God if you don’t tell me-” I said folding my arms and smiling at her angelically. “Get out woman, I have to pick up my kids,” she said. I knew she had played her hand. I loved the twins more than anything. “Fine, you ass, you win,” I said grudgingly as I got out of the car.
