“the great thing about new friends is that they bring new energy to your soul”

My blonde swayed in the sun, making my emerald green eyes stand out even more.. Well I wish it did. It looked like a haystack on top of my head, and my eyes had some serious blue bags under them. I hadn't been able to sleep, constantly worrying about starting my job as an assistant for Matthew. Yet I was mostly worried about if he would continue asking about what happened. I had never been to comfortable talking about it, and especially not with someone completely new.
'But he is your boss, he should respect your wishes.' A little voice spoke in the back of my head, and it did say the truth. He should respect that it wasn't a thing I wanted to discuss – especially at 10 PM. If he didn't like my attitude at the interview, he would hate it now because he was going to see a lot more of it.
Kaitlyn had been sweet enough to call me and tell me what clothes I should wear, so today I had the joy of being dressed in a knee-long dark red skirt, a white shirt with yet again a plunging cleave and a black blazer. And, of course, to tie it all together I had my trust worthy good-luck bag with me.
I got fired from my job – bad, but I got an interview almost immediately – good, he didn't want to hire me – bad, but he ended up hiring me anyway – good. All because I had my bag with me. Something bad have to happen, for the good to takeover and make everything okay again. It can take time, but the good will always come – no matter what.

“Hi! I forgot to ask you last time, but what is your name?” I beamed to the secretary at the front desk. She looked up at me with shock clearly written on her entire face, almost as if I caught her off guard.
“Oh, I am Skye, hi.” she spoke softly and quietly. Her hair fell down in front of her face and I am sure she felt happy to have something to hide behind.
“Hi Skye, I am Safiya as you already know,” I laughed, feeling stupid for mentioning that again, “I just wanted to say that I got the job, so you will be seeing a lot more of me.” I smiled from ear to ear when she looked up at me with shock yet again on her face, but this time it couldn't be because I asked about her name.
“You-you did?” she choked out, “He must really like you. He turned down like, 20 other people. We were sure he would never find anyone.” This time it was my turn to look shocked yet still a little proud.
“Are you kidding me?” She shook her head with a smile on her face. “Maybe I just am that good.” I said with a joking tone and flipped my hair backwards in a joking-confident way, making Skye laugh out loud.
We talked for a little while, as I got to know her. She was 21 and had been an assistant here since the company. Apparently she was Jackson's younger cousin, and when she needed a job he decided to help her. Jackson really seemed like a nice guy, contrary to Matthew and when we speak of the devil,
“Ms. Roosevelt, you are late. With me. Now.” Matthew's hard voice could be heard from behind me as he made his way towards the elevator.
“Wait I am not late?” I said but in a way asked, and decided to look at the watch on my right wrist. 8:15 AM. “Oh.”
“Yes 'Oh'”, he responded and pointed at the elevator, “Get in.” I hurried towards him but not before hearing Skye say 'sorry'. I turned quickly towards her before stepping into the elevator, mouthing 'don't worry'.
“Say, when are you supposed to meet?” Matthew asked when we were alone in the elevator. I looked at him but quickly looked away when I saw those hard brown eyes.
“Uh, 8 AM.” I stammered, but I was quick to ad an 'Sir' when he cleared his throat.
“That is correct. What was the clock when I got you?” I rolled my eyes at his way of talking to me like I was a child.
“Not 8,” I muttered lowly and added “8:15, sir.” Here was to hoping that he didn't hear the first part.
“Good.” he said just as the elevator dinged, telling us we had arrived to the 10th floor. He stepped out first, apparently there was nothing with “ladies first” here. I stepped out just as Ida came into my sight and the angels sang inside my head. I mouthed 'help me' to her and put my hands together in a prayer. She chuckled a little but she came over to us and right there I knew the angels were on my side.
“Good morning Matt- I mean Mr. Frazier. I was just thinking that I could show Safiya around, while you take care of some business. I heard Jack- Mr. Bauer saying he wanted to talk to you about something.” Ida said with ease, not missing a beat at some point. Obviously it had to be something important with Jackson since Matthew agreed and hurried away.
“Girl, you saved my life. I am sure he was just about to eat me.” I laughed and looked around to make sure he wasn't anywhere near me, to hear me saying that.
“It is alright, I know he can be quite harsh,” she threw her arm around my shoulder, making me tense up and bite my lip from saying anything. I really didn't want to be rude, and she wasn't hurting me, “But he can be alright at times. Come, let me show you around.” Ida let her arm fall to her side, making me sigh in relief.
“This is Matthew's office, as you know, and your desk is right there,” she pointed to the dark brown desk inside of a, kind of big, cubicle, “You will get used to it.” I chuckled a bit, it was better than my old job, for now. She showed me where all the toilets were – and let me tell you, there were a lot. She told me what each floor stood for, what people were doing and at last she showed me Jackson's office, or well his door since we didn't want to intrude on the two of them. Her cubicle was a copy of mine yet it seemed more homely. It had a sweet picture of Jackson and her, it made my heart swell up seeing how happy they looked. But it made me sad too, knowing that I would never find someone who would love me that much.
“And as you know, Jackson and Matthew are the owners of the firm.” You know that scratch sound you hear in movies when someone said something unexpected? Yeah, I just heard that.
“Excuse you, what?” My jaw dropped down to the floor. Really I should have known – Frazier & Bauer. Matthew Frazier, Jackson Bauer. But I had actually thought that it was their parents' firm.
“Didn't you know? I thought it was pretty self-explanatory.” She shrugged her shoulders with a little laugh. I scratched my neck and felt a blush creep up onto my cheeks, maybe my father was right when he told me I was to stupid to become anything.
“What is self-explanatory?” Both Ida and I twirled around, shocked as we hadn't heard the door open or the footsteps.
“Safiya here didn't know that you two owned the firm.” Ida chimed with a smile so big I was afraid it would take over her whole face. Both Jackson and Matthew chuckled a bit, it was the first time I had seen Matthew smile and to be honest, it didn't look all that bad, if you know what I mean.
“Well excuse me,” I huffed and crossed my arms across my chest with an annoyed look on my face.
Matthew cleared his voice before saying, “Thank you for showing her around Ida, I will take it from here.” He patted her on the shoulder with a little smile, and motioned for me to follow him. I gave a little wave to Ida and walked after Matthew.
“You are my assistant, as you know. You will be here on time from now on. You will do whatever I say, whenever I say, without complaining. If I want you to fetch a cup of coffee to me from downtown, you will do it. If I want you to write a 100 pages into your computer, you will do it. Do you understand?” He didn't look at me as he listed up the different things and his voice told me that I shouldn't disagree with him, so I just told him 'yes sir' and continued after him.
“As you know this is your desk,” he pointed to the same ugly brown desk that Ida had, “You can do whatever you want with decorating, as long as it isn't too eye catching i.e no painting, no banners and no harm done to the desk.” I nodded my head as he spoke, trying to keep all of these new informations in my mind until I could write them down.
“So what now?” I asked, and the only answer he gave me was a raised eyebrow. I racked my brain to figure out what he could possible mean with that, when it popped up, “Sir.” A victory smile came to his lips.
“You will be answering any calls I might be getting until I can find something else for you to do.” And with those words he went into his office and slammed the door, leaving me alone with my new desk.

The only positive thing with my seating arrangement was that I could see down to Ida. We had been making ugly faces to each other whenever we had the chance. It had been peace and quiet for some time, I had answered a few calls here and there but nothing major. Not that I excepted that.
That was until a girl came out of the elevator. If she bend over I am sure you would be able to see straight up her hooha. Her top was pushing on her boobs so much that at some point they would either explode or pop the shirt. Her face was caked in makeup, literally looked like a beauty shop had exploded in her face. She looked towards me and I could clearly see the disgust that appeared on her face,
“So you are the new slut?” I choked on my water, both shocked and laughing a little. I continued to write on my computer as if no one had talked to me, and I could hear the small irritated huff's she made.
“Hello, I am talking to you?” she snapped, making me look up at her with a bored look in my eyes.
“There is no need to repeat yourself. I ignored you just fine the first time.” I answered. She gasped, her eyes filled with thunder.
“You do not talk to me like that!” She shrieked and slapped my cheek. I had not seen it coming, it took me by surprise and I couldn't help but yell out. I was afraid. The flashbacks were coming back, but before they had the chance to overtake my mind, Ida had come up to us and pushed the girl away.
“Take your disgusting personality and get the hell away Phoebe.” Ida hissed to her before turning her attention to me and my, I think, bright red cheek. I was still shocked by everything, and afraid, but yet I still felt safe with Ida near me. I knew I wasn't back there.
By now both Jackson and Matthew had come out from their offices to see what the commotion was all about.
“What is happening here?” Matthew demanded and looked at the three of us, his eyes softening when he saw Ida looking at my cheek and probably the look in my eyes.
“Phoebe called Safiya a slut and then managed to slap her, when Safiya ignored her.” Ida tattled like a little kid and stuck her tongue out at the girl, who just growled at Ida.
“I will be talking with Steven, now get out of our sight Phoebe.” Jackson commanded and pointed to the elevator. She huffed before spinning around, her boobs almost falling out of her shirt, and walking away.
“Are you okay?” Jackson turned his attention towards me, maybe fearing that I would have another anxiety attack like I had a few days ago.
“Yeah I am fine, not the worst I have experienced.” I bit my tongue right after the words had fallen out of my mouth. With the look Matthew gave Jackson I knew they had picked up on the words, Ida just gave me a sad look and patted me on the back.
“We will get out of your way now. Come one Jack.” She pulled on his arm and dragged him away from Matthew and I.
“Come into my office Safiya,” Matthew said and held the door open for me,
“We have to talk.”
