As soon as Alex Turner arrived, Lin Qianyu playfully pinched his cheek, causing him slight pain. Alex, already feeling a bit irritable, didn't hesitate to express his displeasure.
“Hey, you naughty kid, why can’t you give a little respect? Come here, let's see if I don't s***k you into blooming flowers!” Lin Qianyu was taken aback by Alex's sassy comeback but couldn't help laughing and playfully threatened to catch him.
Alex, nimble and quick, dashed behind Sophia and teasingly stuck his tongue out at Lin Qianyu.
Their amusing exchange had everyone laughing heartily.
"Aunt Lin, you've got it all wrong," Lily Turner intervened with a bright smile, "My brother meant that you’re like the high noon sun, shining at its brightest!"
Lin Qianyu, captivated by Lily's sweet words, turned to Sophia and said, “Oh, how did you manage to raise such adorable kids? I’m so melted! Maybe you could give me one?”
Sophia laughed heartily. “You like them? Well, then you should have your own. My little treasures here are not up for grabs.”
Lin Qianyu, who realized she had unintentionally touched on a sensitive topic of Sophia's marriage, quickly changed the subject to a more neutral one.
Sophia responded with a gentle smile, showing she wasn't perturbed by the mention of her past.
Shifting the conversation, Lin Qianyu asked about Sophia’s recent visit to her parents, expressing concern and curiosity about their well-being.
Sophia warmly thanked Lin Qianyu for looking after her parents, acknowledging her longtime friend’s support.
Lin Qianyu, modest in her response, then pulled out an invitation from her bag. “There's a charity gala in a couple of days. Many people from the entertainment and business circles will be there. It’s a great chance to introduce your company. I've got you an invite. Maybe you'll even meet some charming men there?”
“Thanks for the invitation!” Sophia said, gracefully accepting it. “But I’ll pass on the men.”
Lin Qianyu then suggested taking care of Sophia's children while she was at work, mentioning that she had recently bought an apartment nearby to be closer to Sophia and the kids.
Sophia was touched by Lin Qianyu’s thoughtfulness. Her eyes gleamed with unshed tears of gratitude, but she chose not to say 'thank you' this time, simply nodding and smiling warmly.
Lin Qianyu observed the calm and composed Sophia, feeling a pang of sadness for how much her vibrant friend had changed over the years.
As they finished their meal, Lily, with her infectious cheerfulness, announced that she and Alex were going to play, seeking permission from Sophia.
“Go ahead, but don't wander off too far and come back soon,” Sophia said softly, her voice filled with endless tenderness.
Watching the two kids skip away joyfully, Lin Qianyu, armed with a knife and mechanically cutting her steak, glanced at Sophia and hesitantly asked, “Sophia, does he... know you’re back?”
“Who?” Sophia looked at Lin Qianyu, slightly puzzled.
“Nathan Scott!” Lin Qianyu blurted out.
Sophia nonchalantly responded that Nathan's knowledge of her return was irrelevant, indicating she had completely moved on from their past.
Lin Qianyu, who had witnessed Sophia’s deep love for Nathan and her subsequent heartache, found it hard to believe Sophia had so easily let go.
Sophia calmly explained that what she once believed to be love was merely a youthful infatuation, and that the divorce was a mutual release, bringing happiness to both.
Her tone was light, and her lips curved into a faint smile, seemingly covering any bitterness and memories with her calm demeanor.
At Scott Enterprises...
"Mr. President, I've arranged the dinner appointment with the secretary of the chief designer at Vogue International Group. But they just informed us that the designer, Amanda, isn’t available and has directly refused," reported Evan, maintaining a formal tone.
Nathan Scott's expression remained unchanged, which relieved Evan. He had been apprehensive about how Nathan would react to such direct rejection.
"Oh? Refused?" Nathan mused, his competitive spirit stirring. It was unusual for him to be directly refused. He wanted to know more about this mysterious Amanda, and whether Turner Enterprises' collaboration with Vogue was as solid as it seemed.
"Did you finish gathering the information about Amanda that I asked for?" Nathan inquired, looking at Evan.
Evan, slightly uneasy, admitted he still needed to work on some details. He had been caught up with personal matters over the weekend, choosing to spend time with his girlfriend over completing his task. This left him worried about his job security.
Nathan coldly glanced at Evan, sensing his unpreparedness. "You can forget about this month’s bonus. Get me all the information on Amanda by tomorrow evening before the charity gala. If you fail, don't bother coming back to work."
With a quick signature on some documents, Nathan issued his ultimatum. Evan, relieved that he was only losing a month's bonus rather than his job, quickly left to complete his task.
Shortly after Evan's departure, the door was knocked again.
"Come in."
As the door opened, a sensuously dressed woman entered. Her long, dark hair cascaded down her back, and she wore eye-catching diamond earrings that sparkled in the sunlight streaming through the window.
"Nathan, I heard you're interested in collaborating with a designer from Vogue?" Isabella Reed asked, sitting opposite Nathan, her gaze filled with infatuation and allure.
"As I've said many times, call me 'Mr. Luo' in the office," Nathan responded, his tone detached as he continued to look at the documents in his hands.
"Alright, Mr. Luo," Isabella adjusted her position, leaning back comfortably. "But why collaborate with Vogue? Don't we have our own team of designers?"
Nathan closed his folder abruptly and tossed it on the table, his gaze sharply turning towards Isabella. "Who told you this? Are you now questioning the decisions of the board? Or should I hand over my CEO position to you?"
Isabella hurriedly tried to explain herself, but Nathan cut her off, focusing on the business at hand. He warned her about the quality of work expected from the design department, indicating dissatisfaction with their recent outputs.
Flustered and embarrassed, Isabella realized Nathan doubted her capabilities. She feared her position would be threatened if they collaborated with Vogue. She needed to find a way to maintain her status within the company.
Thinking quickly, Isabella looked at Nathan and said, “Mr. Luo, are you going back to the Scott residence tonight? Elizabeth and your son, Chase, miss you.”
The mention of Elizabeth and Chase softened Nathan’s expression slightly. He looked at Isabella and replied, “I need to work late tonight, I won’t be coming home. When you go back, could you bring Chase some gifts and cheer him up for me?”
Seeing the noticeable change in Nathan’s demeanor, Isabella realized she had hit a soft spot. Nathan's impatience and aloofness seemed to dissolve whenever Elizabeth and Chase were mentioned.
“Sure, I’ll tell Chase that his dad really cares about him,” Isabella said, her face brightening as she eagerly agreed.
Watching Nathan's nonchalant expression, Isabella fidgeted with her hands nervously and ventured, “Mr. President, do you need me to accompany you to the charity gala tomorrow night? I heard it’s going to be quite the event. I’d love to go and later share some fun stories about it with Elizabeth and Chase.”
