Marla paced back and forth in the room while Nate scrolled on his phone. She was contemplating what she should tell Ava. How is she going to explain that Ava’s entire life has been a lie? Her entire existence was formed by keeping her safe. Now that she has found her mate things have changed. How does she tell her all of these things without breaking her?
Ava believed she was a normal human girl, in her normal human world. Her parents believed the same. They adopted a normal human child. So, they thought. Her parents raised her that things that go bump in the night are fairytales and imaginations. Opening this world to Ava is going to ruin her. Marla and Ava’s birth parents are the only ones who know what and who she is.
While Marla was figuring out how to break the news, Ava went back to Grey’s room. She felt safe when she was around him. She felt at home around him. She felt brand new and confident are Grey. How could a person have this much influence over her? She thought to herself.
They got to the room it was about 4 am at this point. She walked straight to the bed and flopped in it. She had never felt something so comfortable and soft. The sheets felt smooth against her bare legs. Grey crawled in.
“I am sorry for making you sleep next to me, without talking to you.” Grey looked regretful.
“You should have woken me up to talk about this. I would have at least tried to understand. I was so scared waking up in someplace so unfamiliar.” Ava looked at Grey
“The thing is, we did try to wake you up. I was able to change your clothes and shoes with out you even stirring. Marla said that you are the deepest sleeper she knows.”
“I guess that’s probably true. Can you at least tell me why I am so drawn to you? And why do I feel so different around you? Against all my better judgement, I want to be yours.”
“I don’t know what is happening on your side of the bond, but I can explain what is happening to me. Please don’t be afraid. It will probably make you think differently of me.”
“I am not sure how that is going to happen, but give it a shot”
“Well, I am a werewolf.”
“Come on Grey, be serious.” Ava thought he was joking.
“Seriously, Ava I am. They are real. I am real. Let me continue before you say anything else. I am not just any kind of werewolf. I am an Alpha. Basically, like a king of people. Although there is a hierarchy. I will get into the later. I take care of my pack and I am the strongest. One thing that werewolves have are mates. There is one person destined to be with them forever. They are given to them by the Moon Goddess. Each person is half of a soul and when they meet they know they are meant for each other. I knew as soon as I smelled you that you were my mate.”
“Grey, I want to trust what you are saying. I think this is a bit much. I have feelings towards you that don’t seem possible, but I want to trust it. I have known Marla my whole life and she told me to trust you. This is crazy though.”
“But is it really though, Ava? We have been around forever and we walk amongst regular humans. You would only know if we told you. There are stories about us everywhere.”
“This is going to take me a while to adjust. I will think about it, but for now let’s go back to sleep. I am exhausted and need to rest.”
Back in Marla’s room she was still pacing. She was talking out loud, when Nate piped in. “I think you should just tell her everything. Even if you think she will be scared. She needs to know what’s going on to protect herself. You allude to the fact that she is in danger. I think the most dangerous thing is to not know you are in danger.”
Marla paused. Nate was probably right; she could teach Ava everything she needed to know. Ava’s mate was also an alpha with access to so many resources for Ava. Marla happened to know that Alpha Grey’s werewolf library held the most history in the entire werewolf world. Those would be able to help Ava overcome the trials.
“Nate that’s probably the smartest thing you have ever said.” She teased.
“I am good for a great idea once in a while. Don’t expect any more soon.” Nate chuckled and smiled.
Marla sat on the bed. She knew what she was going to tell Ava and it was going to be everything. She had to convince Alpha Grey to help them though. It shouldn’t be too hard considering he was Ava’s mate.
