Chapter 2- My Mate

ROMIE'S POV

"Isn't the sky beautiful tonight?" I heard Violet ask and I nodded my head after a few seconds.

We were seated by the river bank, while gazing up at the sky.

There were rows and rows of stars and they shone brightly.

The river bank was my favorite spot. However, my head was preoccupied with other thoughts. It was my 18th birthday and I was looking forward to meeting my mate.

"Are you looking forward to having your mate?" I heard Violet ask, in a suggestive tone and I blushed.

"Of course. Who wouldn't look forward to having a mate. I could finally feel love from a man who is not my father." I said. I was fully invested in this conversation as it was one of the thoughts in my head.

"What do you want your mate to look like?" Violet asked, excitedly. At her question, my eyes twinkled like the stars.

"Of course, I want him to be handsome." I started and Violet snorted.

"Who wouldn't want that?" She asked.

"He should be my prince charming. My knight in shining armor." I said, with a squeal and Violet smiled.

"Have you thought about all the s*x positions you want to try out with him?" Violet asked, wiggling her brows.

"Stop! You disgust me..." I said, in a feigned angry tone as my feet plunged into the river. Immediately after my words, Violet burst into a peal of hilarious laughter.

Soon, we were laughing and discussing what we wanted.

Thirty minutes later, I felt goosebumps line my body. My brows furrowed and I shifted uneasily.

"Are you okay?" I heard Violet ask and I turned to look at her, with furrowed brows.

"Something doesn't feel right." I said, shooting up to my feet immediately.

I felt fear! I felt pain! But why?

"I think you're overthinking things. The night is beautiful, you should enjoy it." She tried to calm me down but then I couldn't.

"I need to go see my parents." I said, in an urgent tone. Without thinking twice, I turned around and dashed down the sloppy path.

"Wait, Romie!" Violet called out to me but then I didn't care to answer.

A few minutes passed, and I continued to run back home. A bad premonition gripped my heart and as soon as I got to the door of my house, I heard a loud bang.

"What's going on?" I asked myself as I carefully pushed the door open. My eyes widened as I heard my mother scream.

At the same time, I could see a wolf, covered in blood while he tore my mother's head apart.

"Ahh..." I gasped, my eyes watered as I walked into the house.

I couldn't breathe. My father's heart was lying on the hard ground while my mother's head and arm were laying apart.

My eyes shut tightly as tears streamed from my eyes. My body shook and I trembled, staggering backward.

I hit a vase and there was a loud crash.

Swiftly, the bloody wolf turned to look at me. I was petrified. My head screamed danger and I didn't know what to do.

I wanted to run but I couldn't leave my dead parents behind.

On the other hand, the wolf's scary eyes were on me and I held my breath.

Different thoughts whirled through my mind.

"Am I the next?" I asked myself. I realized that my limbs and head would be torn in any moment if the wolf pounced on me.

Swiftly, the wolf started to move toward me and I felt paralyzed. I felt like my whole existence would perish at that moment.

Unexpectedly, the wolf morphed into its human form and my eyes widened. A handsome man stood naked before me.

My parents' dead bodies were on the floor but then why was I attracted to the man before me?

His scent was intoxicating and as he looked at me, I was lost in his eyes.

At that moment, my heart drummed loudly in my chest and all I wanted to do was run into his arms.

The fear I had toward him disappeared without a trace and frown settled on my face.

My mouth was gaped open as I asked myself what the f**k! was going on.

I was supposed to be wailing and crying while trying to kill the bastard before me. But then all I wanted to do was to feel him.

It was crazy!

Slowly, he moved closer to me and his fingers touched my chin.

A bond was formed between us and I gasped in realization.

The handsome man before me happened to be my mate!

His touch ignited something deep within me. It was inexplicable.

However, as soon as he touched me, he stepped back like had been burned. My heart hurt due to his action and a frown settled on his face.

After a few seconds, a determined look was seen on his face.

"I, Alpha Marcus, reject you, Romie, as my mate!" He declared and immediately, I felt something break within me.

My legs weakened as an excruciating pain overwhelmed my heart and my mind. Immediately, I fell to the ground as I clutched my chest.

"Don't..." I said, in a shaky tone as my hand reached out to him. However, I felt weak and my hand fell to the ground, clutching the hard floor.

"Please... Stop this pain." I pleaded, as my eyes shut tightly. My body slumped and I fell flat on the ground. Tears dripped down my eyes like a river as waves and waves of pain hit me.

"Ahhh..." I could feel my wolf groan in pain and she receded to the deepest part of my mind.

It was like I had lost something forever. Something I was supposed to hold dear.

My hopes of having a mate was crushed!

An hour passed and the pain in my body subsided and I opened my eyes.

However, my heart was heavy and my eyes were dark and gloomy.

"My mate..." I called out, but he was nowhere to be found.

He was gone!
