Chapter one: What could go wrong?

    The crisp Michigan morning air blew strands of my hair back,as I continued my walk to school. I tugged my beanie  further down so not as much hair flew backwards. I kept my head down and walked a little faster as I came up to the stop sign at the end of the street. I glanced at the forest to my right that no one ever dared to enter,with rumors of whoever went in,they never came home and if they did come out,they were never the same. I shook the thoughts from my head and waited for my only best friend in the world Tempest. I leaned against the stop sign and felt my phone go off in my pocket.  I took it out of my hoodie to see I had a new message .

 Naomi!,Ill see you after second period,I have an appointment

I love you girlie

ps. don't let Sawyer and his goonies get to you Love you!

    I smiled at her message, an signed 'It's gonna be a long two periods without her'I thought , the rest of my walk was pretty normal for the most part. I chose not to answer Tempest back incase she was already at her appointment. I faced the entrance of what I love to call hell hole but what others call school. I made my way into the building making sure not to run into anyone. And by anyone I mean Sawyer, the schools player,jerk,asshole,etc. Yeah he was handsome don't get me wrong. He had Chestnut brown hair,with forest green eyes you could get lost in.

    Before I knew it I was in front of my locker, I put my combo in and reached for one of my textbooks but before I could,it had been slammed shut. I took a step back in fright thanking gods for haven g fast relaxes. I turned to see who the culprit was,and just my luck, it was Sawyer with the biggest grin on his face. "Hey freak" Sawyer said, I looked away  and went to reach for my locker door again. Which must have made him angry because he slid in-between me and the locker. 

    "You know freak,it's impolite to ignore someone who's talking to you." He growled, I looked up to match his glare, "And you know it's rude to call people a freak right?" I asked his glared hardened, "I'll tell you when I need class on manners from a loner"he sneered. I dug my nails into my hands wanting to punch the look off his face, then maybe just maybe he would leave me alone. And I suppose my body agreed with my mind because next thing I knew I punch Sawyer,right in his jaw. I heard gasps from behind me forgetting that the bell for class had yet to ring. 'great,good going Naomi' my subconscious reprimanded me. I heard a laugh come from Sawyer, I bit my lip and back-up only to hit something hard. I raised my head to see Sawyers right hand man.Kaiden. I gulped I fully knew I was in trouble.

    "Well well well, I guess our white haired freak here actually has guts.."Sawyer stated "...Or maybe she just has a death wish" Kaiden finished. I started shaking in his arms knowing one was going to hit me and I would have no one on mysids. In fact I could hear the chants of my so called peers for me to be put in my place. I felt one of Kaiden's hand on my head an he pushed me on my knees in front of Sawyer,who had the sickest smirk on his face, it made his forest greens eyes seem brighter. I closed my eyes, soon after I felt his foot come in contact with my chest, i gasped as the air left my lungs and dropped. Kaiden yanked me back up and let Sawyer take more swings at me. After what felt like an eternity Sawyer told Kaiden to let me go. My face met the cold tile floor, I laid there for a moment before Sawyer bent down. I looked up and saw his eyes held sorrow in them as he looked at the state I was in. He blinked and it vanished just like that. "Next time Freak. Remember who you're messing with, get up" he commanded.

    I tried to move but couldn't, I felt my body scream in pain I groaned. "Get up Naomi"he whispered, I closed my eyes as I slowly got on my knees biting my lip in pain as I slowly stood up. I sniffed and grabbed my bag before trudging to the closest bathroom. I looked in the mirror to see a broken girl, a broken ugly girl. I banged my hands against the sink, before silently shrieking at the pain that traveled up my arms. I met my gaze, starring at me was a girl with white wavy hair that was now tousled and sliver blue eyes stung by tears and a bruise forming on my pale skin and busted light pink lips. I sighed an threw my bag on the counter top, opening it to pull out my makeup bag.  I started with shape tape concealer over the bruise wincing a little,followed by foundation. I couldn't cover up the cut on my lip but I covered most of the damage on my face. Lifting up my shirt I saw a huge bruise already taking place on my chest,an a few on my side and stomach. I wanted to cry,but i couldn't. I threw everything back in my bag and started for the door. But before I could open it, someone else had,I dipped into one of the stalls and locked the door quietly and propped my feet up with me .

    "Can you believe what that freak did to Sawyer?!" a nasty voice shrieked 'Daniella' I thought "She left a mark on whats mine!"she whined causing me to roll my eyes. "He's not yours Daniella,he's yet to find his mate" one of her friend commented I heard her growled "Bella,honey shut your damn mouth. Just because he hasn't found his mate yet."she paused"doesn't mean he cant make me luna" she said sickly sweet. 'Mate?,Luna? what the hell?' I wanted to leave but I knew it wold just lead to another cut on my face,which wasn't going to be worth it. "I don't know Daniella, did you not see the look Sawyer gave Naomi? It didn't look like he was proud of himself."another one of her friends stated and fro once I agreed. Daniella was quite for a moment (surprisingly) "I saw it. But I doubt that freak is his mate. If she is,I hope he rejects her so I can see her painfully expression"She laughed, it took a second before her friends joined in and they left. I put my feet on the ground and let out a sigh of relief. ,before replying the conversation Daniella an her friends had,and the look of pain Sawyer gave me.  

    The bell rang snapping me out of my thoughts, I ran from the bathroom down to my first class,English. Usually I would have Tempest in this class with me, but she wouldn't be till third,we have every other class and lunch together . also Sawyer is in my class. I walked in an saw the teacher hadn't came in yet, I started for the back of the room only to have my wrist grabbed by someone.And once again that someone HAD to be Sawyer. "Sit next to me"he said I shook my head causing him to glare "I said it next to me." I looked at my shoes then took the seat next to him where Kaiden usually would. "W-where's Ka-kaiden?"I asked, Sawyer looked at me then rested his head in his hand propped  up by his elbow. "His folks called him home before the bell rang" he stated I nodded.

    The class felt like it dragged on,maybe because sawyer fell asleep half way through and I didn't have Tempest, she usually made this class less painful, actually all classes Sawyer,her and I shared she made better. Our teacher had his back trend to the class as he went on about an essay that he would be assigning next class. I took out my phone and decided now would be a good time to take my bestie back.

        N:That mission has failed, though I did punch him in the face :)

 I set my phone on my lap, so I could see her reply easier. I felt eyes on me causing me too look at Sawyer (out of habit) to see he was smiling an looked  happy. He really did have an amazing smile.he mouthed 'mine', I gave him a puzzled look but shrugged it off. My phone vibrated in my lap causing me to look back down.

    T:That's my girl! don't take his bs. also you're sleeping over. No if's an's or butt's your borrow my clothes

 I mentally sighed.I had never once been to Tempest's house it had always been her going to mine.I never questioned it I was more comfortable there but I also knew once she had something planned there was no way to talk her out of it. I felt Sawyer touch my hair,moving it from my face. I blushed as our eyes met. "Class is over Naomi" he whispered. I nodded gathering my work and running out of the room. I headed to my next class which was History, I didn't have Tempest or Sawyer in this class. But I did have Kaiden again and Daniella, I made my way to the back passing empty tables. I was always early to this class..I don't know why I just was. People slowly started coming in, I messed with my hands as more and more people came in. Once the final bell rang and I noticed once again Kaiden wasn't in class I let out a sigh of relief. The class went on an on, I didn't really care about it all. I bounced my foot up and down waiting for the bell to go off,knowing I would see Tempest next period. After what felt like an eternity the bell rang. I slipped past Daniella an her followers, I went to my locker to put my bag away before P.E. 

    I made my way towards Tempest's locker which wasn't far from class when I spotted her. "TEMPEST!!!!" I screamed and tackled her in a hug causing her to laugh."Naomi, my babes i missed you!"she yelled hugging back. I giggled and got up,I gave her my hand to help  her up which she took. "How did your appointment go?" I asked she blushed and shrugged "It was fine,nothing exciting" I gave her a funny look but shrugged it off and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Well,okay.Sadly you made it back for Pe" I whined she giggled "You really hate that class" I nodded "I'm not as physically fit as you are" I noted she smirked "thats because 'm a -" she covered her mouth. "Because your a  what?" I asked she shook her head "Don't worry about it, i'll explain tonight at our sleep over" I smiled and nodded. We went to the locker room and changed into our uniforms for class. Today we were going to play dodge ball, to my distaste I had Daniella,Sawyer and Kaiden in this class. We played girls vs boys so no one would be feel bad about being picked last. Everyone from both teams lined,Sawyer was in front of me, he smiled and winked causing a small blush to come across my cheeks. The whistle blew signaling the game started, Sawyer picked up the ball and we both backed up. 

    The game went rather quickly with a few on each side. By now I would been out. I went an picked up a ball the throw when a ball hit me in the back of the head catching me off guard. I thought sawyer had been the smart ass. "Hey,Naomi,are you okay?"a husky voiced asked I shook my head and slowly stood. "Careful"the voice said I gripped the arm belonging to the person to study myself.The pounding became somewhat worse. "You stupid she wolf!" a familiar  voice called out I turned to see Tempest in Daniella's face, who had a smirk on her face "What's going on?" I asked "By the looks of it Tempest is about to rip Daniella a new on for throwing the ball at the back of your head." Kaiden said I looked at him surprised and a little scared. "She deserves it,for hitting you though"Sawyer snapped. I then realized the arm I was gripping so tightly belonged to him,I blushed and looked back towards Tempest and Daniella.To see them yelling back an forth at each other. Before we knew it,Daniella raised her hand and slapped Tempest,causing Kaiden growl "mine" before he ran over to her.  He lifted her up like she weighed like nothing before bringing her back to where he had been standing.

    After the teacher deciding the rest of the time being better spent as study hall,having sending both Tempest and I to the nurse and Daniella to the office, it was fine, though the boys had took it upon themselves to walk us over. Which had been so different from this mooring. I gripped my best friends hand the whole down the nurse.Worried about what would happen if I slowed down or went to fast. Kaiden and Sawyer had to stay in the reception area as the nurse took as back. "So,Naomi how's your head feeling?" she asked I shrugged "it's just a little painful"I responded she nodded before studying at me hard. "Can you explain the busted lip?" she asked i looked down embarrassed "o-oh I um bit it when the ball hit me" I felt stupid lying but didn't feel like getting Sawyer in trouble since he had walked me here, and been nice outside of...this morning. she sighed buying my lie and gave me an ice pack and aspirin before moving on to Tempest. Once she finished she escorted us out but called Kaiden and Sawyer in telling us to wait for them. 

    "So...you and Kaiden?" I asked, Tempest looked at me then at her shoes "is it that obvious?" she asked I shook my head. "well you both weren't here for first or second periods, I just wished you told me instead of lying an saying an appointment I would've understood." I snapped she growled "I didn't lie, I did have an appointment and I didn't tell you because it's complicated, I was gonna explain it tonight." I rolled my eyes an looked away from her  "Sure". Before either of us could say anything else the boys came out. "so take the girls home" the nurse said before heading back in her office. My jaw dropped, I'm going home with these people, like hell! "Come on Naomi or do you need your mums and dads permission?"Kaiden teased I winced a little, Tempest sighed and brought me into a hug,as much as I didn't wanna be around her I needed my best friend. "What?What did I say?" Kaiden asked "Her parents died she lives with her grandmother."Tempest hissed he bowed his head realizing he made my life a little worse Sawyer didn't look at anyone he was more lost in thought.  "well lets get you two to the house."Kaiden said wrapping his arm around Tempest and walking out of the office. Sawyer and I followed behind "I'm not going to your house" I snapped he stopped and looked at me "Yes,you are there's something we need to tell you and whether or not you like you're coming home with us."he growling  I stood there shocked for a second,before following Sawyer out of the school, Tempest and Kaiden waiting outside a G-wagon my jaw dropped for the second time,today. "Beautiful, close that mouth a go to the car you're in the front"Sawyer order I nodded and made my way over. He unlocked the car, I climbed in,not gonna lie I felt very  left out of place even though my best friend was there. The car ride was quite, till I noticed the way we were going was towards my grandmothers house. We stopped at the stop sign,but instead of going straight he went left, toward the forest. "Wait, where do you live,tempest?" I asked she lifted her head of Kaiden's shoulder  "In the forest,in a pack house."she stated, I turned around and gave her a look.

    "Don't worry about it darling."Sawyer said  I turned back around, "What do you mean don't worry,she said she basically lives in a place where it's haunted"I snapped "it's not haunted,it's just a story we tell people." he snapped back. I crossed my arms and settled  in my seat and pouted, looking out the window I saw so many tress pass by,along with my thoughts. Like how many secrets could my best friend be hiding?,whats the complicated relationship?,why do I need to go to a pack house?,whats a mate and a luna?. We stopped after war felt like an eternity looking like the same trees. Sawyer walked around the car to help me out of my seat, I blushed for what felt like the hundredth time today,my heart racing. Kaiden already had gone a head somewhere, All I could tell you was this place was breathe taking between, the homes and trees, and a place that looked like a mansion. I was astounded "Beautiful,isn't it?" Tempest asked I nodded she giggled "follow me we have to get you dolled up no questions asked" she playfully teased,causing me to laugh, I guess in my gazing of this place Sawyer had also made his escape.

    Tempest tugged me through the small looking village?town? either way it was something I hadn't seen. We walked up stairs to a nice looking home which I'm guessing had been hers. Once inside we traveled through the living room and down the hallway to get to her room. She sat me down in her chair as she gathered make up supplies. "Wait,I thought I was here for a sleepover?" I questioned, she froze for a second and turned to look at me "Well you are here for that,as well as something else now shush" I giggled Tempest acting like she's serious at this point was funny. Once she had her supplies she began working on my face, we giggled and talked about a lot of things,I stayed away from the topic of her and Kaiden,for now I would be asking later on tonight. "And perfect!"she announced she moved out of the way so I could see myself i the mirror. For the first time today I felt pretty,she had given me a medium nude to bright out my eyes and a lightly darker pink then my lips already were. "Okay,I picked out a dress and shoes for you so go get dressed and I'm gonna do my Make up and hair"She explained  shoving toward her closet I laughed and followed her instructions. I slipped into a burgundy knee length sleeves dress with black heels. I came out to see my best friend in a sweetheart light blue floor length dress and her jet black hair in a fishtail braid completed her settle make up. 

    I was in awe of her, she laughed and hugged me tightly causing me to hug her back. "you ready for this?"she asked I nodded and smiled to let her know I felt fine. lapping her hands she bragged me back through her house to the outside world. And all I could think about was what could go wrong? Absolutely nothing. Or so I thought
