“Hello sir.” Bella said.
“So you are the infamous Bella that my son is talking about?” Matt asked.
“Um, I seriously doubt that.” Bella said.
“You sound unsure, tell me, what type of food do you like?” Matt asked.
“Where is the fun in that?” Bella asked.
“What do you mean?” Matt asked.
“If I tell you, then it is not fun. There is more joy in seeing you wrap your brain around trying to guess. And if you get it wrong, then it’s even more fun for me.” Bella said.
Matt laughed really loud. A knock came through the background.
“Sir, the board room is ready.” Matt's assistant said.
“They can wait a few minutes, I am on the phone to my son’s friend.” Matt said.
“Yes sir.” The assistant said.
Matt waited until the assistant left.
“It sounded like you scared him.” Bella said.
Logan was watching her closely. Everyone was scared of his dad, why wasn’t she?
“No, he’s fine.” Matt said.
“Tell that to the trail of yellow.” Bella said.
Matt laughed again. This time Logan could hear the laughter through the back of the phone and raised his eyebrow confused.
“Bella, I can’t wait to meet you. I do hope you will forgive me. So that you don’t feel uncomfortable, I thought I should invite a few other guests so that you weren’t the only one there. So that Milly had a friend to play with and so that I can discuss work if you didn’t want to chat to us older people.” Matt said.
“I can talk to older people, I just don’t talk to dinosaurs.” Bella joked.
Logan heard his father laughing again.
“What time would you be around?” Matt asked.
“I don’t know where you are, so I don’t know.” Bella said.
“We are located in the hills.” Matt said.
“Oh, maybe 6:30pm?” Bella asked.
“Done. Make sure Logan texts the address. Do you have a car?” Matt asked.
“Yes sir.” Bella said.
“We will see you then.” Matt said.
Matt hung up, he had a smile on his face. Surprising everyone as he walked into the board room.
Bella handed Logan his phone back. Logan was surprised but kept a serious look.
“You made him laugh?” Logan asked.
“I don’t know what you mean.” Bella said.
Logan shrugged, maybe he heard wrong. They walked to get lunch. They ate it and took ridiculous selfies together. Bella was being silly and shoved her food into her face, leaving sauce on her face to make Logan laugh. He burst out laughing. He got her on video, he had recorded her saying you better laugh for this before she did it. He pretended to delete the video. Logan was liking this side to her, but he doesn’t know why.
Logan didn't know what it was, but Bella was making him have a nervous feeling a lot. He knew Bella was different from the other girls he met. And for once, a girl wasn't swooning over him. He knew he'd have to pay attention or someone may hurt her.
“Bella, do you really play the drums?” Logan asked.
Bella gulped and got serious.
“I play drums, bass and acoustic. I do keyboard and I dabble with a mic. I wouldn’t say I am a pro. But I like to daydream about being one.” Bella said.
Logan looked at her.
“You seem talented.” Logan said.
“I will be going to the club and performing, it isn’t a place for kids though. So I lied about my age to be able to perform on stage with my band mates.” Bella said.
“What club?” Logan asked.
“Not telling.” Bella said.
“What if I just wanted to see your drum skills? I promise to not applaud or call out your name.” Logan said.
“I’ll let you know, if I change my mind.” Bella said.
They sat for a moment.
“Your father told me to tell you to text me the address.” Bella said.
“I can’t, you never gave me your number.” Logan said.
Bella smiled.
“You have just never asked me, since we got better acquainted.” Bella said.
Logan smiled and then leaned closer.
“Can I please have your number so I can text you?” Logan asked.
“No.” Bella said.
Logan pulled a confused look.
“You can have it to text and call, not just text.” Bella said.
She shot him a smile and he smiled.
“Cheeky.” Logan said.
“Duh, have you not figured that part out yet?.” Bella said.
Logan smiled as Bella entered her number into his phone. He texted his address to her and she smiled.
“Now you have my number, don’t go overboard.” Bella said.
Logan nodded. They went to the bathroom, Bella cleaned her face off and they went back to school.
At school, everything acted like normal. She sat with Kieran and spoke with him the whole time while Logan kept texting her and asking if she was okay. Bella ignored her phone, it was on silent. During the next period, Logan followed behind them closely with his friends as he eavesdropped.
“So, dress shopping huh?” Kieran asked.
“Yeah, and I spoke to your father.” Bella said.
Kieran looked at her shocked.
“How scared were you?” Kieran asked.
“I wasn’t scared, but someone told him about a board room meeting, and he did scared them. They sounded like they peed their pants.” Bella said.
“That I believe.” Kieran said.
“I am pretty sure that Bella made dad laugh more than once.” Logan said.
Kieran looked at Logan being serious then looked at Bella.
“You are both crazy.” Bella said.
Then Bella turned around.
“Why are you all near us?” Bella asked.
“Where were you today?” Mitchell asked.
“Your dad invited me over for a quickie.” Bella joked.
“Our dad invited her over for dinner, so Logan took her to the shop because it’s a fancy dress.” Kieran said.
“Think nothing of it, I was merely transport. Bella even shouted lunch. I was just sleeping on the chair because it took forever.” Logan said.
“That’s enough.” Bella said.
Bella walked to the locker room and quickly changed. When Bella walked out of the locker room, the guys were still not ready.
When the guys were ready, they walked out and saw Bella was already on the basketball court.
“What is she doing?” Logan asked.
“She is always the first on the court. She dances with her earphones in while shooting hoops. Coach says we can’t bully her during his class because he wants her on his team.” Mitchell said.
“It’s a guy team though.” Vince said.
“And she is amazing.” Mitchell said.
Kieran and Logan shared a look then watched Bella as she looked at the coach. She shot the ball while not looking. She got it in the hoop.
