Chapter 10: Return
Looking around, Carl saw that he was back in Capital City, in one of the streets in the industrial area. In the pre-dawn light, the city looked somehow strange and alien. He remained where he was for a minute or more, deliberately reorienting himself mentally, and working out what he should do, where he should go.
He had just decided to find an OS cop, when he was suddenly spotlighted. A moment later an amplified voice sounded.
“Stay where you are, hands over your head!”
Carl was brought into custody and questioned by the city police. He identified himself and related the basic story from his being kidnaped from the Academy barracks.
