It had been added to the house towards the end of the eighteenth century and had been designed by Robert Adam himself. It was a lovely Chapel and the Vicar carne every month to conduct a special Service for those employed in the house and on the estate. Now there was no one in the Chapel but the Vicar with Whitlock and Mrs. Hudson. They had been let into the secret of their marriage so that they could be witnesses at the Service. The whole Chapel was massed with banks of flowers. Those on the Altar were white. But many of the rest came from the gardens and were the bright gold of the daffodils and kingcups.
