Chapter 8

1202 Words
The small whimper, so soft and fragile, sliced through the silence of the forest like a blade. His wolf howled again, ears perked, searching for the source of the sound. His eyes narrowed, every muscle in his body tense with the need to find the source of the voice or anything that could explain the ache gnawing at him. "Where are you?" he growled, voice hoarse from the panic that was growing in him with every second. His feet moved on instinct, the pull tugging him forward. A small figure lay just ahead, barely visible in the shadows. A small form, crumpled and trembling, its body soaked in blood. The faint, but unmistakable scent of wolf hit Sorin's nostrils. A pup. His breath caught in his throat. The pup was no older than five or six years old, his tiny body covered in dirt, his fur matted with blood. His breath came in desperate gasps, eyes wide with terror, but he was trying to hold it together. A small, broken whimper escaped his lips as he curled into a tight ball, his tiny hands clutching at his side where a deep gash bled freely. Sorin's heart clenched. Without thinking, his instincts took over. He rushed to the pup's side, dropping to his knees. The world seemed to still around him. He could barely hear his wolf's frantic howls echoing in his mind as he gently cupped the pup's face in his hand. "Shhh...I'm here. You're safe now." he whispered, his voice rough, a soft growl threading through it. The pup's eyes flickered up to him, filled with terror and pain, but there was something in his gaze that Sorin recognized....something that made the blood in his veins run cold and hot all at once. The familiar bond pulsed faintly in the air, threading through his body, tugging at him in a way he could not deny. This pup... He wasn't just any wolf. It's different....but what? "Alpha…" The pup's voice was small, fragile, but there was a desperate need for it. His tiny hands reached up, trembling, touching Sorin's chest as though trying to find reassurance. "I... I'm sorry... I couldn't protect them... I couldn't.....'' Sorin froze, his breath catching in his throat. The words didn't make sense at first, but then they hit him. About whom this child is talking? Did he lose someone closer? His heart stuttered. "I couldn't protect them," the pup whispered again, and Sorin felt a deep surge of something within him, something primal, fierce, protective. The words clawed at his insides, making his chest tighten painfully. Without thinking, he scooped the pup up in his arms, cradling him gently despite the blood-soaked fur. The pup, smaller than Sorin had first imagined, whimpered in his arms, his body trembling with the force of his fear and pain. "Who did this to you?Tell me pup? He demanded, his voice raw with fury. His eyes scanned the clearing once more, but there was no one. No sign of the attackers. Just the scent of blood, fear, and confusion. The pup flinched against him, shaking his head weakly. "I... I couldn't save them. I tried... but they were... they were stronger..." He broke off into a choked sob, his tiny body wracked with pain. Sorin's arms tightened around him instinctively, a growl vibrating deep in his chest. "You're safe now... no one will touch you." he said, his voice unwavering. The bond between them was undeniable, it thrummed in his chest. He felt it deep within his bones....this pup was his responsibility, his charge, his to protect and he'll do it at any cost. He rose to his feet, cradling the pup securely against his chest. His mind was racing, thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and urgency. He had been looking for his mate, but now... now he had found something else. Something that felt just as vital. "Stay with me, little one, we're going home," he whispered, his breath hot against the pup's ear. The wolf inside him stirred, restless, protective. His wolf's voice was thick with concern. Rin... He needs us. Sorin nodded, a firm resolution setting into his chest. His wolf was right. This pup, hurt and alone, was meant to be with him. As strange as it felt, as much as he had been searching for his mate, this was his path for now. And he would protect this little soul, just as fiercely as he would protect his own. With the pup held tightly in his arms, Sorin began to move through the forest. His strides were quick, purposeful. His mind raced with questions, but most of all, with the overwhelming need to get this pup back to the pack. To safety. As the pack house came into view, he felt a strange, possessive pull toward the pup in his arms. He could feel his heart beat faster with each step. His protective instincts were on high alert....this little wolf was under his protection and he would not let anything harm him, again. Once inside the house, Jungkook immediately made his way to his private chambers, the darkened halls of the pack house swallowing him whole. The pup whimpered quietly against his chest, his small body trembling with every step, the blood staining the white sheets of Alpha's bed as he carefully laid him down. Hiss hands were gentle as he began to clean the pup's wounds, his mind spinning. The pain in the pup’s eyes tore at him, and the bond between them grew stronger. But there was more...something about this moment felt... inevitable. "Rest," he murmured, as he finished tending to the pup's wounds. His voice was quiet, but firm. "You're safe here." The pup's eyes fluttered, but he nodded weakly, a small, trusting smile playing at the corner of his lips. "Alpha…" the pup whispered, his voice barely audible as he gazed up at Jungkook. "I... I knew you'd come." Sorin's heart clenched, his breath catching in his throat. The weight of the pup's trust was immense. And somehow, as he looked down at him...fragile yet strong in his own way. He knew that his life was changing. He had been searching for something, someone, but this little one, this lost soul, had found him first. And now, Sorin couldn't imagine letting him go. He had a duty to protect him. He sat on the edge of the bed, his hand gently resting on the pup's head, the bond pulsing between them with a strange sense of familiarity, like he had known this pup for years. "You're with me now,'' he whispered, his voice soft but filled with a fierce promise. "No one will hurt you again." The pup's tiny hand reached out, grasping at Sorin's fingers, the connection between them feeling unbreakable, the bond settled into place like a missing piece falling into its rightful position. Sorin closed his eyes, taking in the moment. This was right. This was his path now. The nightmare had been a warning, but Sorin had found something even more precious. And nothing, not even the darkest of fates, would tear him away from this. No one would harm his pack. Not while he was Alpha.
