In the quiet, the beast in me is thirsting for blood of my enemies.
-----
Arabella's eyes were blazing. Fire and anger. There was no way to calm this vengeance burning inside her, burning her.
“Send me back.” Arabella spat out, her voice shrill with anger. “I need to go back to where they were. He is the reason my whole world was destroyed. He killed my family and my friends and my pack, and now he is fûcking her over my frozen grave? The bastard. I will be the tempest. I will be his destruction. I will destroy everything and then I will let him rot alone in his darkness.” Arabella seethed. Her soft green eyes glowed as she looked at Malrek, and Malrek shook his head, a self-satisfied smile filling him.
He must have wanted this.
He looked pleased.
"That is all I wanted, my dear Arabella. You deserve to wipe your pain with the blood of your enemies. You deserve to take lives to match the lives that has been taken from you."
Arabella nodded like she was being hypnotized by his words. His orange hair floated around him as his burning eyes softly traced her face.
"Yes. Yes."
godess of resurrection sighed softly at Arabella. She looked like she was rethinking this whole resurrection thing, once again. Arabella didn't care
"No. I don't want you to say anything. I have made up my mind. If I am going back, I will be going back only for one thing. My revenge."
"Yes, Arabella, your pain will have to be avenged. You will have such a power to destroy your enemies." He looked ecstatic as he grabbed Arabella’s finger and spun her around in the dark space they were floating in. Sparkling stars floated around them as he hummed softly under his breath.
“What she needs is closure, and maybe, she will find her light after that. Who knows? Oh, Maseir knows and Selene might know half of it, but she won’t tell her anything.” he said as Arabella glared at Selene. Selene sighed, her deep blue eyes solemn and full of secrets.
Selene stayed quiet as the others fought with each other. She wasn’t talking much. She kept looking at Arabella, as if she was afraid that Arabella might explode.
“Good luck in there, Arabella. I will be waiting to watch you destroy him. It will be epic, my dear,” he said, and before Arabella could reply, he vanished, leaving a trail of sparkling fire behind him. The embers spread in the sky, making beautiful sparks in the darkness, glowing like orange stars.
“So I will be going, too, you know, I have things to do.” Death said as her red eyes glinted. “Now that you chose life, I have nothing much to do here.” The goddess of death smiled at her.
“Goddess of death?” Arabella called to her softly. The Goddess of death stopped, her dark eyes scanning Arabella. “Will you be seeing my brother, my best friend Becca, her mate Liam, my pack members?” Arabella felt the pang of sadness dripping back inside her heart. When she thought about them, she felt her remorse growing, but along with it, her resentment and need for revenge grew, too.
“Oh, yes, I will be seeing them when I go to the Garden of the Dead,” she said with a sigh. Arabella's heart twitched.
Garden of the Dead was where the good ones ended up. Hells of the Dead, the name was obvious.
“Can you let them know that I am sorry for it, and that I will pay back Vincent with interest for what he has done to them?” Arabella whispered, her voice soft and broken.
Her stern eyes lost its steely glint for a second and she looked soft. “I will let them know, Arabella. Don’t worry, when it is your time, they will be waiting.” she said, and she flashed away in the red smoke.
And then there were two! Arabella looked at the two women floating around her, their eyes lost in thought.
“We need Ryl,” Gielah said as Selene started to chant once again.
‘More Gods! Hurray!’ Arabella thought with a sigh. It was taking a lot longer than she had expected.
A pulsing silver light flashed in and out and then it became a woman who looked breathtakingly beautiful. She appeared in front of them, glowing like a sparkling star.
"I am Ryl, the Goddess of Healing and I see why I was invoked. Oh, you look terrible," she said in a soft melodic voice that was soothing against Arabella's torn skin. Her hair was dancing in the wind as her soft silver eyes touched Arabella's skin and she felt her broken skin stitching back together just from that one look. “Give me your hand, Arabella.”
Arabella hesitated before handing her hand over to the goddess. White light shone from her fingertips and she pressed her finger against the pulse and Arabella felt her whole body tingle. It was electric.
“And I am done.” she said with a bow to Arabella, and then she vanished.
In an hour, Arabella had met so many Gods and Goddesses. If it was any other day, she would have gushed and fan-girled, but not today. Today wasn’t any other day.
Today was the day she died. And she would not forget it.
Arabella looked down at the tattered white dress she was wearing. She had took a lot of time to choose this dress. Even Becca had became impatient when Arabella couldn’t decide what she wanted to wear.
I will avenge your death, Becca. I will avenge all of your deaths. Arabella thought to herself.
“So? Who do you want to be when you wake up?” Gielah asked.
“What? I can choose anyone?”
“Yes, or you can be yourself.”
“If I go like this, he will recognize me. Can I- like-” Arabella stopped when she realized it was almost ridiculous, but then she was talking with a goddess of resurrection. So what could be more ridiculous than that? “I don’t want to be recognized.”
Selene nodded. “Goodbye, Arabella. I hope that you will choose the right path.”
But Arabella didn’t give a s**t about that. She didn’t want the right path. Her path was chosen the moment Vincent decided to kill her. It was decided the moment she saw Vincent fûcking his mistress without giving another thought about the lives he had taken.
And that was the path she would be walking now. The path would be full of fire and darkness and vengeance.
“The only reason I am going back there is to get my revenge, Gielah. I deserve that. I deserve to watch him burn in my hell. I will be his worst nightmare.” Arabella spat the words out. Her body tightened in anger and rage.
“The reason you are going back… is that your destiny is far from over, Arabella. The reason you are going back is… more than just revenge." Selene whispered, and Arabella glared at the goddess, her eyes burning in rage.
"I don't need your sage advice, Selene."
And then Arabella was falling… and falling.
***
Someone was slapping softly against her cheek. She felt the ice seeping inside her torn dress as she blinked her heavy lids open. She felt confused and dizzy. She didn’t remember why she was here.
What was going on here? Why was she even alive? And where in the world was she?
“Are you alright?” The woman in front of her asked. She wore a dark black cloak as she looked down at Arabella. Arabella thought of the question and paused.
Was she alright?
She was not. Just this evening, she had died. She knew she had died. So why was she awake now? What was happening here?
“I-” Arabella blinked and blinked. She remembered the mating ceremony, she remembered the smile in her face… and then…she remembered the claws cleaving through her skin, the bodies that were dropped in the snow, turning the pure white snow into red.
She also remembered screaming at Vincent that this wasn’t over, but even as she screamed, she knew it was over.
So…why wasn’t it over?
Why was she awake and alive now? It was impossible. Arabella lifted her hands and she saw her hand was completely free of the claw marks. Her whole body was still aching, but it wasn’t the pain she had felt just a few hours ago.
Her head was fuzzy and was screaming in pain, but even in her fuzzy state, she knew she wasn't supposed to be here. She was dead.
She was DEAD!
Arabella looked around herself. The small tree in the front yard, the bench under it... She saw she was not anywhere near Vincent’s pack land. She was sure she was not even in Vérfarkas.
Where in the world am I?
She was in front of a small cottage, and the woman kneeling in front of her was looking at her with irritation. Her pale brown eyes glowed in the moonlight, like a rare gem stone.
“Who are you? Where have you come from? You are a wolf, aren’t you?” The woman looked disgusted as she said that. Her plump lips pressed together in distaste as she scanned Arabella's torn body. Arabella sat up in the cold and winced when her body groaned in protest. She felt the pain in her body, she felt the pain of the broken bones, but the bones were healed.
“From the tone of your voice, you must be a witch.” Arabella said.
Shifters and witches had never gotten along well. Their rivalry was legendary. It dated centuries ago, when one of the wolf chosen a witch as his chosen mate. He, then, found his true mate and threw the begging witch out in the cold, snippy night, because his true mate couldn’t bear the thought of the witch staying in their home one more minute.
The witch, cold and hungry, she had to cross the Dread Woods of Delvitga, a place, even the most powerful creatures hated to travel through. As the trees started to squeeze the life out of her, as bloodmongrels, ferals, and skreels started to feast on her frozen body, she used the last of her magic to curse the man who had chosen to cast her out, and his true mate, or so the story went.
Since then, Witches didn’t trust shape-shifters, especially wolves.
“Where is this place? What day is today?” Arabella whispered as she looked up at the moon. The moon was full in the sky, and it softly glowed. Arabella had the strange urge to shift and run.
"Kia? Kia? Kia are you there?" Arabella screamed inside. She needed to hear the familiar voice of her wolf. She didn't understand much, but she knew this was more a nightmare than a blessing.
"Kia? Are you there? Do you know what is happening?"
No sound back.
Her wolf was not responding.
“This is Melvoria, and you are in front of my cottage. You are not here when I left to buy venison and herbs, just an hour ago. How did you come here?”
"Melvoria?" Arabella blinked hazily. "Is this a dream? Am I dreaming? Am I dead?"
"You look like you are dead, but no, you are not actually dead." The woman said.
"This is- this is not happening. It is impossible. I can't be here."
