CLOSE, BUT CAREFUL

📖 CHAPTER SIX Close, But Careful Something shifted after that conversation. Not dramatically. Not loudly. But enough to be felt. Daniel and Aisha settled into a rhythm—one built on honesty and restraint. They spoke more freely now, yet moved with caution, like two people aware of fragile ground beneath their feet. During lessons, they sat at opposite ends of the table. Still, their conversations drifted beyond numbers and textbooks. “What do you want to study after this?” Daniel asked one afternoon. Aisha smiled faintly. “Literature. I want to write someday.” “Stories?” “Yes,” she said. “About people. About feelings that don’t always make sense.” Daniel chuckled. “Sounds complicated.” “It is,” she agreed. “But real.” There was something comforting about talking to her—something grounding. She didn’t treat him like an expectation or a responsibility. Just a person. Yet the careful distance remained. When her hand brushed the table near his, she moved it away immediately. When his gaze lingered too long, he looked down. They were close. But careful. At the end of the lesson, Daniel walked her out again. “Do you ever regret being careful?” he asked quietly. Aisha stopped. “Sometimes,” she admitted. “But I regret hurting people more.” Daniel nodded. He understood that better than he wanted to. As she left, he realized the truth. This restraint wasn’t weakening what they felt. It was strengthening it. Because love that waits learns patience. And patience, Daniel was discovering, made everything feel deeper.
