Amara didn’t sleep that night. She tossed and turned, the stranger’s face imprinted behind her eyelids. His eyes—dark, sharp, and too knowing—had unsettled her in a way she couldn’t explain. It wasn’t just his boldness, it was the familiarity in his tone. Like he knew her before she even existed. It was ridiculous. She sat up in bed, glancing at the faint glow of her phone screen. 3:14 AM. “Great,” she muttered, dragging a hand down her face. Tomorrow was another long shift. She couldn’t afford to be sleep-deprived and haunted by a stranger with a god-complex. --- By morning, she had brushed off the encounter. Maybe he was just another cocky businessman who thought women should drop at his feet. Lagos had plenty of them. But as she walked into the nurses’ lounge, Tolu, her best friend and fellow nurse, greeted her with wide eyes. “Amara! You got transferred!” Amara froze. “What?” “Matron just posted the list. You’re being moved to Serenity Private Clinic. In Victoria Island. Starting Monday.” Her mouth fell open. “Serenity? That’s one of the most exclusive private hospitals in the state. I never applied.” Tolu shrugged. “Apparently, they requested you by name.” Amara’s heart stuttered. “Requested?” Tolu nodded. “Girl, you must’ve impressed someone. That place pays double. You’re lucky!” Amara walked toward the noticeboard in a daze. There it was—her name, printed clearly under the transfer list. She hadn’t applied. She hadn’t even dreamed of working at Serenity. It made no sense—unless… Her mind flashed back to the man in the hallway. The way he said her name. The way he knew. No. It couldn’t be
