VALENTINA My eyes snap open. I could have sworn I heard the door closing. I stretch and roll over, burying my head in Deo’s pillow. His side is still warm, but I don’t hear him moving around in the room. He must have just stepped out. Gathering the sheets, I cocoon them around me. Calmness washes over me as I inhale the smoke and spice that is uniquely him, and I smile. The thought of wearing his mark and committing myself to him hadn’t even crossed my mind a week ago.
