Since the UN passed the resolution for the partition plan in November, things had begun to combust across the region. Incidents of violence on all sides occurred virtually every day. Irit, Avi and I, among others, worked feverishly on drawing up organizational plans for troop deployment, weapons, allocation of supplies, setting up depots and drawing out simulated battle plans. Not to mention, training. Trying to corral followers of the Haganah, Palmach and Irgun and forge them into a coherent fighting force proved more than challenging.
