Alex’s POV
I don’t know who Rafael’s mate is, but she definitely isn’t human. I have used my full aura in my office before and she didn’t even flinch. I could hear her heartbeat pick up, but that was it. I don’t know of any supernatural beings that can withstand an alpha’s aura, apart from other alpha’s or the alpha king of course.
Damn it, even Bryson was shaking like a f*****g chihuahua. And he’s been my friend ever since we were in nappies. A human should have obeyed a slightest command, full aura would be deadly for most.
I have lost my cool at first, but once I had time to think about it, I have slowly formed a plan. While Kristina looks genuine, I can’t trust her until I know what she is, we cannot afford to put The Faraway Moon pack in danger.
Bryson agreed that Woebrook might be the only way to find out, especially as she doesn’t seem to know either. If she’s not a shifter, there is no knowing what being taken to our sacred spiritual place will do to her. I glanced over at Rafael, he looks scared, but intrigued. He’s not a puppy, he must know that what just happened is unheard off. Hopefully he’ll cooperate and let us find out what’s going on.
After getting to the clearing, Kristina collapses gasping for breath from her run. Ok, definitely not a wolf masking her scent then, good. As we start chanting, a bright light starts enveloping the clearing and the dust rises into a strange, shinny and shimmering spiral. Kristina appears to be unconscious, but comfortable, as we all watch in fascination.
“How..?” Rafael gasps, looking at me desperately, seeking to understand.
“Dunno,” I shrug my shoulders as I keep watching. “It’s reminding me of a bedtime story we heard as kids, but I can’t remember the details. Something to do with a prophecy?” I look around the circle, hoping for confirmation and they all look at me blankly.
“Alpha families would have different bedtime stories than others, as it’s important to pass specific information to new generations.” Bryson finally speaks up.
Kristina yells in her trans, and Rafael tries to get to her.
“No!” I shout, holding him back. We cannot intervene with the Goddess, she is safe in her hands. Rafael nods, but a single tear is running down his face. It’s obvious he loves her deeply.
Kristina’s POV
What the actual f**k is going on? Why is everything so bright? Have they drugged me somehow? Where’s Rafael? All I can see and here is this white shimmering s**t enveloping and it’s freaking me out.
“Calm down child, all in good time,” booms a loud, female voice. It’s absolutely impossible to tell her age, and the fact that she’s hiding out of sight pisses me off even more. And I’m not a child!
“Yes, my child, you are very young and still at the beginning of your journey. Therefore, you are a child.” The woman’s voice continues.
“How the f**k do you know what I’m thinking?” I’m about to lose my cool here.
“I know everything about you. I am the Moon Goddess, and I would like you to stop swearing,” she adds sternly.
“Moon Goddess my ass. After I found out what they drugged me with, they’ll regret this. I just hope Rafael is ok.”
“Language!” She shouts, losing her patience now. I’m wondering if it’s my unconscious reprimanding me.
“I am not your unconscious, I am your Goddess. And I came here to…”
“NO!” I scream at the top of my voice. “I don’t believe I’m any of that s**t, so stop. Just stop. This obviously isn’t real and I don’t want to have anything to do with your stupid cult. Just let me wake up and get the f**k out of here!” I’m panting now, and everything is starting to hurt.
“As you wish,” she says quietly before the light starts dimming and my surroundings starts slowly coming back into focus. But then, out of nowhere this booming voice resonates through the clearing. The birds fly away and everything seems to be deadly silent, except for the small echos of her voice.
“The prophecy has been fulfilled. The 9th son has mated with a pure, candid soul. They are destined to achieve great good together, strong when united, broken when divided. Blessed be their union.” And with that, she’s gone.
The whole clearing appears to be frozen, everyone staring at me, as I manage to get on my knees before vomiting spectacularly.
“What the f**k was that?” I ask, as Rafael runs towards me make sure I was ok.
“The Moon Goddess, she…” Rafael starts, his voice shaking, but Alex cuts him off.
“We need to get her back to my office, this is big. Rafael, might be easier if you carry her. The rest of us will shift and you’ll follow.” Rafael nods in agreement, before giving me a quick peck on the cheek as he lifts me up.
“I’m heavy” I start to protest, but Rafael giggles.
“You’re forgetting who you’re talking to darling,” he says with a smirk. “As light as a feather.”
By the time we’re in Alex’s office, everyone is dressed again. It’s now just the alpha, beta and what I’m assuming is Rafael’s dad here. They seem to communicate with their minds, and I get slightly jealous of their connection before reprimanding myself.
Alex starts going on about how “the prophecy” is serious and how they must investigate, blabbering on and on and on, completely ignoring me in the process.
I can feel my temper rising again, this isn’t good. Then, out of nowhere, a voice in my head says,
“What a f*****g i***t, I wish he would just shut up. We’re not a f*****g commodity you f*****g freak!” And with that, I hiss at him. The room goes silent, everyone is staring at me as I feel my face go crimson once again. Did I just hiss at him? What the hell is wrong with me?
“Nothing wrong darling, he was just being a f*****g nuisance, that’s all!” That weird voice adds again. Am I now going mad, too?
“You’re not going mad, just let me show you,” and with that, my body starts feeling all weird. Everything starts hurting as I scream in pain, my bones snapping, hair retracting and whiskers growing. Why the f**k do I have whiskers? Is that a tail?
“What the f**k is happening to me?” I try to ask, but my voice is gone. Everyone is just staring at me as if I was a ghost.
“How did you do that?” Alex eventually asks.
“Do what?”
“You just mindlinked everyone. And, you’re a f*****g cat.” He sneers, but looks uncomfortable at the same time.
“What’s a mindli… did you say a cat? I scream, but no sound comes from my mouth.”
The room erupts in laughter as Rafael’s dad reaches to open an old wardrobe with a mirror on the inside door. My jaw falls open when I look in, then I jump and look behind me, to make sure it’s really me I’m looking at.
“Of course it’s us, silly. I’m Kleo by the way, your cat.”
My mind is too overwhelmed to answer. I appear to be a giant tricoloured cat. And when I say giant, I’m talking massive. Probably bigger than a wolf, I’m eye to eye with everyone except for Alex, who is a couple of inches taller.
As I try to take in my whiskers, my fur and my tail, everything starts spinning and before I know it, I pass out.
“It’s too much change for her. I’ll take her home and come back when she’s ready,” I hear Rafael say as I’m disappearing into the darkness.
