Lena's POV The gun went off and Rhys fell on top of me, and for three seconds I was sure he was dead. His weight crushed the air out of my lungs, blood warm and wet spreading fast across my hands where I clutched at his back, and I screamed so loud my throat tore. Then he moved, pushed up on shaking arms, looked down at me with wild eyes, and said, "Are you hit." I stared at him, panting, hands scrambling over his chest, his shoulders, his neck, looking for the wound. I said, "Am I hit, are you hit, you jumped in front of a bullet."
