Liriel went inside an empty house as he was given a break for serving the princess for days. He roamed his eyes around the place. He could not deny that the place looked abandoned for how many years. It has been five years since he last visited the place. He could still see stains of blood scattered everywhere. It was his parents. He covered his nose as the wind blew some dust covering the entire area to his nose. This was his home. He was not allowed to stay here and was brought to the orphanage because no one would ever take care of him. He had no relatives.
When he reached legal age, he was not able to go home because he spent his time training to be a kingdom’s knight. This was the first day that he was able to visit his home after five years. He looked around and inspected every room. As he checked every room, little by little, he could no longer called it his home because the people who contributed to make this house a home were no longer around. He was now all alone.
He stopped by his parent’s room. He saw their picture together. He dust it off and he could see how happy they were back then. He wished he could turn back the time and change the past. He wished he was able to save his parents. He wished he was able to hide them.
Liriel removed the picture from the frame and folded it to insert it on his pocket. However, he noticed a paper from the ground. It must had fell and did not noticed.
“To Liriel,” Liriel read.
‘Son, we do not know when will you see this or maybe you would never will. The crown prince will now ascend to his throne and we accidentally heard that it was about eradicating left handed. We do not know why he is doing this but only one thing is for sure, you’ll live. We will make sure you will. So, we hope that you will live your life to the fullest. If ever something happens to us, please, do not think of a revenge. We wanted you to live a normal and peaceful life and you can achieve it without a burden in your heart. If ever something happens to us, we already prepared you some treasures that you could use if needed. We are sorry if we could say this to you in person, son. We want you to live with no worries.’
Liriel scoffed as he read the letter. He was angry at his parents for not telling him. They already knew then why didn’t they flee? Why didn’t they ran away? And how could they expect him to live a life without vengeance? He saw how his parents were killed. He saw with his two eyes, for f**k sake. He could not do what they wished for. He could not live a normal and peaceful life not until he serve them with justice.
He looked at the letter. He wanted to tear it apart because he was angry but he could dare to do it. It was his parents’ letter to him. When he read it, he felt like they were talking to him. He sighed and folded it like what he did with their photo. He inserted it on his pocket.
He felt like he needed some diversion. He needed to forget about his parents’ plea. He looked around. Maybe cleaning the house might occupy his thoughts. He left the room and started cleaning in the living room. He needed this diversion. He did not want to give in to his parents’ plea. Live a normal and peaceful life? There’s no way he would do that.
He started cleaning the house. He swept the floor. Dusted the dust off the couch or on any area where the dust had accumulated. From time to time, he would visit this house to clean it or even have a rest here. When he finished the living room, he went to his room. He started sweeping the floor to remove the dust. Everything was so dusty. He then folded the bed sheet and dusted off the mattress. He brought it out of the terrace to give it sunlight. To eliminate the germs. He swept under his bed and he noticed something. It was a photo album. He totally forgotten what were the contents of the album. He opened it slowly and saw another picture of him and his parents in the castle. There were a few of it. As he flipped the next page, he saw a picture of a fifteen year old boy and a girl sitting together on a grass. They looked happy. It was him and the princess. He could not deny that she was really his first best friend. They always talked about everything. Almost everything. They were so comfortable with each other. He sometimes teased her, she got mad but them they’ll eventually made up.
Liriel remembered what Slithen said when they were in the cave.
‘Do you still love me?’
He loved her but she no longer love her. And maybe, that’s for the best. He should not develop or brought back his feelings towards her because that would get in the way because he was dealing with the king, her father. She’ll be in the way. He closed the album to stop reminiscing because the past always hurt him. He kept and wrapped the album on a cloth. Did he planned to bring the dis?
No, he’s going to bury it under a soil. After he would get his parents’ justice, he would forget everything. He’ll move on, and he could do that if you eliminate every remnants. That was when he’ll grant the wish of his parents but as of now, justice should be serve.
He looked at his left-hand with this hand, I will make sure the king would receive what he deserved.
