DIMITRI EVEREST STEPPED from between the trees out onto the gravel road, the gritty pebbles crunching under his booted feet. Small lakes dotted the landscape of Bull Creek, and sometimes, he liked to check them out just to ensure squatters hadn’t moved in and claimed a spot he would have to kick them out of later. Ezra Havlin had set up camp a couple of years ago and lived out among the trees for a month or more before Josh discovered him, so Dimitri knew it could happen.
