June
"Passports in footwells, kiss her and don't tells. Wine glass, puff pass, tea with cyborgs. Riot America, science and edibles. Life hacks going viral in the bathroom. Cocaine, side boob. Choke her with a sea view. Toothache, bad move. Just act normal. Moka pot, Monday, it's all good. Hey, you. Should we just keep driving? ", Mckayla, Terri and I sing in harmony.
"You guys are so weird", Kauthar laughs.
"That's the best bridge created in music history", Terri says.
"Definitely", I laugh.
June was the longest and happiest month I had this year. There was sad moments I must be honest with you but we're not going to go full detail onto that.
We have English now but Miss Ismail gave us a free period because she said we deserved it, and because we're her favourite class.
"I'm so glad Nishaat came out of her shell", Miss Ismail says.
"What does ma'am mean?", I ask her.
"You were always so quiet and you had attitude", She laughs.
"Me? Have attitude?", I say sarcastically.
"I don't think Nishaat had attitude. I think it's because she has a resting b***h face, that makes her look mean", Terri elaborates.
"I do have a resting b***h face. That's why my mom thinks I'm always moody", I laugh.
"In the beginning of the year I was afraid of Nishaat", Mckayla says.
"Really. Why?", I widen my eyes.
"You looked like you would snap my head off", She exaggerates.
"I look like I would hurt you but I won't. I'm too soft for that", I give off a warm smile.
"I always thought Nishaat didn't like me, because you rolled your eyes at me on the first day", Miss Ismail laughs.
"To be honest with ma'am, I didn't like you. Only because ma'am was new so I thought, usually the new teachers think they own the school, so I thought ma'am was like that but you're not. Ma'am is chill. Ma'am is honestly my favourite teacher in this school", I say.
"Oh, and that guy that you have a crush on, Nishaat. One of my friends said he has a girlfriend", Terri says.
"I know", I say.
"Oh", She says with a surprised tone.
"I found out after I gave him the letter", I sigh.
"Oh", She says with a low tone.
"You can still pull him", Our classmate Jade says.
"Wow, good advice Jade", I say sarcastically. "I'm not doing that. It's his turn now. I will wait and let him make up his mind", I say.
We finish the conversation with a laugh. I pop my earphones into my phone and listen to music. It's raining outside and the classroom is freezing cold. School is not a place you want to be in when it's this cold outside. I lay my head on my table and close my eyes, letting the music sink into my ears.
The bell rings and I pack my bag and put it over my shoulders. I pull my chair in and walk out of class.
"What class do we get now?", I ask taking my right earphone out of my ear.
"Math", My friend Lailah says.
I pop my earphone back into my ear letting Artic Monkeys vibrate threw my ears. I walk ahead from my friends to class. It's too cold to be walking as slow as them.
"Hello ma'am", I say walking into math class.
"Good afternoon", She says.
I walk up to my desk and sit my bag on my chair. I take my earphones out of my ears and put my phone in my blazer pocket. I take my math book and all the stationery I need out of my bag. I throw my bag onto the floor and take my seat.
The rest of the class walks in and takes there seat.
"Hello ma'am!", Terri shouts from the door.
That's something that she does everytime she walks into this class. She does it to annoy ma'am.
I sit in class paying attention to every word that ma'am says. I write down notes and equations that ma'am put on the board into my book.
"Nishaat", Tharwah calls me.
I turn my head right to where she's sitting. "Yeah".
"Look".
I look to the front of the classroom and see him standing there talking to ma'am. I begin to fake cough. Terri is sitting behind me and looks towards the front as well.
"Cough, cough", She rolls her eyes.
"You guys are so obvious", Lailah laughs.
"Nishaat don't turn red", Kauthar says from a few desks in front of me.
I feel my face and I am turning red. I put my head down onto my desk until he leaves.
"Tharwah is he gone?", I whisper to her.
"Yep", She says and I lift my head up. I fist pump Tharwah and we both laugh.
"I have no idea what you see in him", Terri sighs.
"It's hard to explain but I see something", I smile.
We continue with our work until the bells rings. I pack my things into my bag and put it over my shoulder again. I wait for Terri and Mckayla to do the same and we walk out of class together.
It's break now and we sit in our usual spot. I pop my earphones back into my ears and they do the same. I enjoy this about us. We can spend time with each other without even saying anything and still not feel bored. We always sit with our earphones in our ears and look at the sky. Our minds might be other places but we're always with each other.
I spend most of my time scrolling through i********: during break. Tharwah taps me on my shoulder to inform me that break is over. We get up from our seats and walk towards our next class.
We walk into LO class, or as some of you would say, Physics ED. I hate this subject. I find it so pointless. Why do teachers need to know if I'm physically active or not, it's not your business.
We all take our usual seats. I sit in the middle of Mckayla and Terri. I look at the door and see Kauthar walking in last.
"Did Kauthar sit with us during break?", I ask Terri.
"Nope. She was sitting on the stairs with Lailah", Terri responds while taking out her notebook from her bag.
Kauthar takes a seat right in front of the class.
"Kauthar", I call. "Are you okay?", I ask her.
"Yes. Why are you asking?", She lifts and eyebrow.
"I'm just asking", I say opening my notebook.
I take all the notes down that sir wrote down on the board. The bell rings quicker than expected and I walk out of the classroom. I stand by the door waiting for Kauthar to walk out as well. She walks out a few minutes after me and I walk up to her.
"Are you sure you're okay?", I ask.
"Yes. Why are you asking?", She says sounding annoyed.
"Your just being distant and I was worried about you", I say as we walk together to our next class.
"I'm fine, Nishaat. Don't worry", She says reassuringly.
I don't push her. I know there's something wrong. I can tell. She's not usually like this. She's always smiling and laughing but I haven't seen her smile or heard her laugh in a long time.
We walk into Geography class. Tharwah and I sit next to each other and Melanie and Kauthar sit in front of us.
Ma'am switches on the projector and give us our lesson.
The bell rings at 3:05 and school is done for the day. I pack up my things and walk out of class before all my friends.
