CHAPTER 4: DARLA’S FRIENDS I was here staring at my character in the lobby, wearing a boring white uniform with her face masked. The characters name is charly. It was stated in the customization whatever they call it. I laughed at my own thoughts. Now what am I supposed to wait for now? She said she was going to introduce me to her friends and I have been in the game for 2 minutes now and nothing had happened. I sighed. Did she forget? Or had she gotten distracted by something else and left me here with my thoughts? Any little discomfort and I would delete this game. My thoughts trailed back to her name. Milk?! Who uses milk as their user name?? I laughed at the thought. Then I heard a sound, then something flashed on the screen. Player ~ Milk invites you to their room. Room? I laughed. And there were two options. “Accept” and “ignore” and I definitely wasn’t ignoring. So I clicked on accept. When I got in to the “room” there were 4 players. And according to what I was seeing, I was the fourth. The characters were just standing holding different weapons. I couldn’t even tell what they were, it was there I took the time to notice, my character had one too. “Bellaaaaaa.” Darla’s voice broke through my thoughts. Coming from the character with the name “Milk” Wait a minute?! I looked at the other characters. Well… their names. Chocolate?!! Bread?!! What the hell?!! And there’s me, who the game gave a weird name. Blaxk1010 “Hi Bella.” A voice very sweet, tiny and calm came from “chocolate” Oh my days! “Hiii… umm… chocolate.” I mean, would you blame me? I didn’t know what to call her at first. But she has a name right? And I can clearly see chocolate, so, why not just call her what she chooses to call herself? I laughed hysterically. And I think they all understood why I was laughing too cause they laughed too. Except one person wasn’t. The character with the name Bread. Absurd but it is what it is. Bread wasn’t laughing. “Okay so… this is my best friend Bella, and Bella meet my babe, Mia and Mason.” She paused for a while, noticing my confusion even without me talking. I knew the babe thing was a joke, but I felt a pang of jealousy, she called her babe. I didn’t linger too much on it though. I sighed. “Mia is chocolate and Mason is bread. They are siblings.” Darla added. “Oh my dayssss soo cuteee.” I squealed. I actually found it adorable that they were siblings and their names both started with M. That’s like really nice. I wished I had something like that. “We’ve heard so much about you.” Mia said. Wow. Popular line. I laughed. “Good things I hope?” I responded and she laughed. “Why is Mason not turning his mic on?” Darla asked and I sensed a bit of irritation lying underneath her tone. I must have been the only one that noticed how she asked. But I waved it off. “I don’t know… Mason turn on your mic.” Mia spoke, I sensed the authoritative tone lying underneath her words. But I in ignored that too. I couldn’t care less actually. Mason still didn’t turn on his mic. I didn’t know why? Well at that moment” I didn’t think I was interested in knowing why either. So much that didn’t really matter to me. “Mia leave him. Bella don’t mind him, he’s always like that. On and off. We don’t know what’s wrong with him.” Darla explained, she must have thought I felt offended. I wasn’t. “No it’s fine. It’s calm.” Cause what more could I have said?? Would I urge them to force him to speak? Nahh no sane human even does that. It’s always fine. It was awkward for a moment, in the virtual room. I laughed at my own thoughts. “Virtual room” “Bella is in level 6, how is she even supposed to play with us?” came Mia’s voice, effortlessly breaking the silence. “Oh shoot. I didn’t think of that.” Darla responded. I kept quiet, I really didn’t understand what they meant at that moment. “She’d have to grind on her own first… I guess.” Darla added again. Grind?! What the hell did she mean?? “Yeah.” Mia agreed. “What do you mean?” I finally asked. “So apparently, your level and rank is too low to play with us…” then she went quiet. Darla of course. “Huh?!” I still didn’t understand. “Bella you are in level 6 right? Check it, and also look at the logos next to our levels, then you’d understand. Mia calmly explained, something Darla failed at buttressing properly. I sighed. So I took a look at their characters again, then I realized what she meant by ranks and levels, and my… my… I was shocked. Darla was in freaking level 400!!! So was Mason…
