CHAPTER 6 : SUGAR

1169 Words
SUGAR. Silence. Nothing else but silence. Of course you’d find it hard to respond. “Darla.” I called. “Yes.” She replied, her voice low and calm. I knew what she was doing and it was definitely going to work. “I asked you a question.” I reminded her, even though she clearly didn’t need it. She obviously heard me and chose silence. “What do you mean by that?” She asked innocently. I laughed. “Oh.” was all I let out of my mouth in response. “Guy why are you laughing?” She asked. Sometimes Darla just pissed me off so much. What do you mean why am I laughing? Are you about to come here and act like everything was fine and you hadn’t ghosted me for three freaking weeks?? I should have voiced out my thoughts but I wouldn’t. I’ve got to be calm. “Nothing. Just felt like.” I responded. “How are you?” She asked making laughter erupt from my lips again. I love Darla so much yeah..? But sometimes I just hate her. And now is one of the sometimes. “Do you care?” I retorted. “Guy…” she said. Wait… was that frustration I sensed? Did she just sound frustrated? She was frustrated? The audacity almost made me laugh again. I was the one who had been ignored for three weeks. Not her. Yet she had the audacity to even let the frustration slip out in her tone. “Darla.” I called. And I’m sure she knew I was about to talk. “Uhum” was her response. “Where have you been these past three weeks?” I asked. Hesitation. “In my house.” She responded. “Why haven’t you been replying my texts?” “I haven’t really been on that app, but if you texted on snap I would have seen them, sorry.” Lies. I chuckled. “And you haven’t been seeing my invites too?” “What invites?” Oh how much it pisses me off when someone answers my question with a question. I took a breath in and out. Relax Bella. “Oh… so you gonna say you haven’t been seeing my invites in the game guy??” No I wasn’t relaxed, I was pained. Thinking about how many times I had sent invites, till the extent that I gave up just hurt. And then I unknowingly channeled my pain into anger. “I didn’t see anything Bella.” Wow. Just wow. “Wait… you really think I would see your invites and ignore them?” Wow. Darla wow. “Yes you would! And you have been ignoring them for the past three weeks!!!” My voiced was a little raised. How could she tell me she didn’t see them?? “No guy. You should know I wouldn’t do that.” Darla no. She sounded so sincere and honest. Like she had been accused of doing something she hadn’t done. Even sounded hurt. “But you did.” I tried standing my ground, but I couldn’t, where was all the anger? It was gone. A single manipulative line from Darla had cleared all the anger away. She was lying, I was sure, but I couldn’t prove it. “Bella. For real, trust me, I wouldn’t see your invites and ignore them. It must have been a glitch in the game or something. A lot of people have made the same complaints. I really didn’t see them, I’m sorry.” And of course, I let her manipulate me, I believed her lies, even though somewhere at the back of my mind there was a nagging feeling that she was lying to me. You could say I am lowkey a simp. A simp for Darla. All she had to do was sound like the victim, sound honest, and I believed her. I couldn’t bear to be angry when she was like that. Sounding like she could cry from the accusations. I just couldn’t. I was quiet. “Hmm.” I responded defeatedly. “And I’m sorry for not reaching out.” Just lol. “I know you. It’s fine.” Cause I do. Random ghosting for absolutely no reason. It’s part of you. Then everywhere went quiet cause she understood what I meant. “Oh my God! Guy you’ve gotten to legendary.” She was surprised. After they had deceived me and made me think ranking up wouldn’t take time, well it did. “Uhum.” I responded, too lazy to say anything. “Guy howww?!” She asked. “How in what way? I shouldn’t have gotten there??” I asked. “Yes guy. For a new player it would take a while.” She said. Yet she forgot to mention these things to me when I had downloaded the game. “Well… I had friends to help.” “Oh wow. You made friends in the game already?” I laughed. “Shouldn’t I? When the person I downloaded the game to play with abandoned me right after I downloaded it.” That should sting. “I’m sorry.” She said. “But you had to rank up first.” She added. “Doesn’t change the fact that you still abandoned me for three weeks and left me maneuver it myself.” She let out a sigh. “I’m sorry.” She apologized again. “It’s fine. Appreciate the help.” I mocked. Silence. “Should we play?” She asked. Well isn’t that what I downloaded the game for in the first place? I wouldn’t say that out loud though. I had already spat enough harsh words. I’ll let her breathe. “Sure.” Then we played the game, and this time, it was a bit harder than what I had been playing these past few weeks. I asked her why it was so in frustration, then she told me it was because of her level and we were matched against people like her. And I understood. It was gonna be tough playing with her, so I had to get better. A match usually took about 12 mins and we had been 8 mins to the game. I was completely mesmerized by how well she was playing. Made a mental note to myself to get better. Which meant giving more time to the game. I sighed. Then I noticed something at the left side of my screen. Like a notification, I don’t even know what brought my attention to it. But I did. Player ~ Sugar connected. What was wrong with the people in this game anyways? I laughed. Sugar?!! You mean your name is sugar? Well, I shouldn’t even be judging when my own best friend is named after a breakfast ingredient. Milk. “Why is this boy spectating now?!” I heard Darla say, while being focused on the game. “What boy?” I asked. “Sugar.”
