Chapter 7

1869 Words
Eric POV I grabbed my duffle bag and headed out the door. Hopping into my blue Chevy Trail Blazer ’26 limited edition I headed over to Anna’s house. The anxious need to do something to get to CD was over whelming me. I figured moving around, driving would help bring progress to what we were moving towards. I have no intention of resting again until she’s safe, until she’s in my arms once again. I texted Anna when I was on the way letting her know I’d be there in ten or so minutes. She said she was ready and waiting for me on the front steps of her house. I pulled onto her little dirty driveway that lead to her small log cabin. She had thousands of tall wild flowers growing around her property. Her green thumb was impeccable. She stood up and ran over to my SUV. She threw her backpack and duffle bag into the back seat and hopped in the passenger. “Let’s go.” The hour drive to the tarmac was killer. Felt like we were on one of those old movie sets where the background keeps rolling by but the car isn’t actually moving. Yea it felt like that for an hours. Once we finally pulled in we had to go inside the tiny airport and have our id’s and flight itinerary checked. After a quick check of our bags we were aloud to head to the tarmac. Jeremy was waiting for us and he was happy to see us early. He had already done the pre checks making sure that everything was good to go. They even filled up the plane too. Jeremy knows I like leaving early and he likes being prepared at a moments notice. Texas has undergone strict air space laws as of recently. Once the current president took office the whole country took a turn for the worst. Texas being one of his favored states they renamed almost everything after him and took away rights of women and started allowing the abuse of women and children turning them into third class citizens. Out of all the states in the country Texas has the highest birth rate, the highest abuse rate and the highest child abuse rate. In order for my plane to safely fly in and out of the state my plane, my staff and myself all had to go through a thorough back round check. Once we were given the all clear we were able to fly to and from the state with no issues. Jeremy had also contacted air traffic control at the Austin Airport and informed them of our itinerary. Because of the head winds we landed around four am. Tommy sent a text and picture message with the make and model of the car and where it was parked also a change of license plates were in the trunk just in case we get spotted. He also gave an address for the hotel letting us know that we were all set to check in under his name. He also listed CD’s personal address since Joe had bought a house and moved while she was in prison. After walking threw the terminal we headed for the exit. For four thirty in the morning it was slightly busy. People getting ready for business trips and what not. A very basic Toyota Carolla sat in the parking spot C209. It was grey and had nothing on it to make it stand out. It was dingy like it had been run through the car wash sometime in the last week so it was clean but not shiny stand out clean. There were no dents and the license plate was a state issued one. We popped open the trunk and through our stuff into the back Another text from Tommy popped up on my phone 'Joe will be coming to work around 7 this morning. He lives thirty minutes away from the office.' I thumbed up the text and hopped in. The drive to the hotel took about an hour and it would be another thirty minutes to CD’s house. Anna opened the glove box once we got into the underground parking and found a key card with the room number attached. And a post-it saying ‘Go get your girl’. That’s right she is my girl. And I’m not going to let anyone take her again. We took the elevator swiping the card for the top floor. The suite was huge. Looked almost like an apartment. Anna took the left side and I took the right. She was going over through everything in the back pack. A UVM sweatshirt, a white tank-top, a sports bra, black jeans, a pair of womens boxer underwear. All stuff she said her sister would wear. In the bathroom she placed a kitchen chair, and hair bleach and color, to look like her sister. As well as everything needed to work on her hair and make-up. CD’s passport was ready just needed a new updated picture. I couldn’t sleep and neither could Anna. We were both hyped up and ready. So a little after five thirty we headed to CD’s house. To the mansion address that Tommy had sent. The homes looked like they belonged in some HOA version of Hell. Every lawn looked like the grass was perfect at a half inch tall. Every house was the same shade of white. There were no decorations, nothing to signify the individual houses apart from each other. Even the cars all looked the same. Fancy expensive cars that’s what this neighborhood held. After finding her house we sat in front and watched the house. A light came on in the upstairs a little before six. And a thin figure appeared opening the curtains. She looked tired and worn. Her eyes looked out the window and looked like she was looking right at us. Maybe she was. Maybe she knew help finally arrived. She slowly walked almost with a limp down the stairs and to the kitchen. The kitchen was on the left side of the house and it looked huge. There were a pair of double French doors that faced towards the road. Her shoulders were a bit slouched when she opened them wide. She looked out the door and this time I know she saw us. She looked right at us and almost sighed in relief. She busied herself around the kitchen. Looked like she was making breakfast. And she would occasionally look up. Anna noticed at almost 6:20 that a man was walking down the stairs and heading towards her. He stopped and looked like he was on the phone. CD quickly rushed putting the breakfast on the table and than as she was placing the coffee down that’s when he walked into the room. Head held high shoulders back. He walked over to her and took her waist pulling her body close to his. He brought his face into the crook of her neck and it looked like he was whispering or nuzzling into it. She looked so stiff. Like she was afraid to move. Her eyes were glued to the coffee mug. Anna whispered next to me. "I can't believe how broken she looks. We need to save her like now." "No, we have to wait. We can’t risk her getting hurt any worse than what he’s already done to her. We can only hold out hope that he leaves soon. I watched as his eyes tilted out of her next and he was looking at the same thing she was. The calm Joe flew out the window. The angry enraged Joe came in like a freight train. I watched how fast he spun her around. His fist rose before she stopped turning and He punched her so hard that she fell her head hitting the counter. I couldn’t make out what he was saying only that he was yelling at her. I watched as he kicked her in the side a few times and made a few more slaps across her face. He walked away pulling on a pair of driving gloves. He walked across the house. The Garage door opened up and the Black Maybach from when he picked her up at the prison drove out. The garage door closed as he left the driveway. Anna and I ducked into the seats as he was coming out the driveway. We heard him drive really slow almost like he was looking into the car but couldn’t see anything. We then heard him drive off and down the street. I lifted my head to make sure he was really gone. He was out of sight. Anna opened the car door and ran out. Sprinting across the lawn and into the kitchen I pulled the car into the driveway to wait. I took the sweatshirt I was wearing and folded it into a pillow laying it on the back seat for her to use. Not even five minutes later and I see CD leaning on Anna. She’s having a hard time moving with a bag of ice on her head she looks wobbly. I took a few steps forward when Anna shook her head no. I took CD from her when they were close enough and I helped lay her down in the back seat of the car. Her head laying on the makeshift pillow. Anna tossed her bag into the trunk and got into the front seat. Her eyes looked at me. I don’t know if they were seeing me or not. She started to visibly relax when her head touched the sweatshirt. “You’re safe. I’ve got you. I came for you just like I promised I would.” I lightly touched her leg before standing up and closing the door. Noticing she didn’t flinch at my touch like she did Joe’s. The half hour drive in the opposite direction of the city would definitely buy us some time if Eric got a call that CD was no longer home. We pulled into the underground garage. Anna opened the trunk and I leaned inside to check on CD. “Hey Beautiful, we’re at the hotel. Can you sit up so I can put this sweatshirt on you?” She lightly nodded her head and attempted at sitting up. Her face had some swelling but it wasn’t anything too awful. A little make up and a few days of rest should heal up nicely. I grabbed the sweatshirt and gently pulled it over her head I then tucked her hair and put it into the hood it covered her face. She scooted to the edge of the seat and tried to stand. Her legs decided that they however did not want to stand. And started buckling underneath her. I scooped her up and put her arm around my neck. I Whispered into her ear. “I’ve got you now love. I won’t let you fall.” I lightly kissed her forehead and started to walk toward the elevator. With Anna Behind me she set the alarm for the car. We met no one on our travel up to the room.
