Cassandra POV
I went to answer the door bell and there stood four giant men.
“Uh can I help you?”
“Yes we are from brothers moving co. Are you Cassandra Miller?”
“Yes?”
“Great! Sign here and we can start moving in everything.”
I was so dumb struck. These men needed my signature? I’m just a slave to my husband. I don’t mean anything to him at all. Well that’s not true I am a baby making machine that he can beat whenever he so chooses.
Several large moving trucks stood in the driveway along with three gorgeous looking woman. They looked like they belonged on the cover of a magazine or walking the runway. Watching them walk towards me they even walked like models.
“Oh hello you must be Cessie?”
“Cassandra.”
“Whatever, I’m Jennifer, and this is Miranda and this is Nicola. We’re moving in today so if you could show us to our living quarters that was be great, Thanks”
I stared at Jennifer. She has long pin straight blonde hair, blue eyes and was wearing all designer clothes. I looked at the first girl she pointed to Miranda and the other girl Nicola. Both girls are also in designer clothes long blonde hair and blue eyes. Well at least my husband has a type. I felt like a hobo standing in front of these woman. I’m 5’4, bruises on top of bruises. I was brutally assaulted last night into the early hours this morning and I’m pretty sure there is dried blood in my dingy looking chestnut brown hair.
I had no clue where they are going in this house. I didn’t get a layout or directions on where anything is. I told them to just pick where they would like to be and hoped that would be good enough. Jennifer smiled threw her head up high and strutted into the house. The other following behind.
They all acted like they had been here before. My guess they had. They most likely knew where they were going and where there stuff was to be placed.
With my cousins work address in my pocket I went in search of some paper and a pen. I wanted to get this out to her as fast and as secretive as I could. A small writing desk was in the corner of the living room, A pad of lined paper, envelopes, stamps and a pen sat there along with some bills waiting to be sent out.
My brain started shifting threw the files from childhood. When Anna and I were younger we had a code that if we ever wrote to the other they would know we were in trouble and to hope that they would be able to send help or rescue.
A few key phrases came to me and I pulled the cap off the pen and started writing.
Dear Anaya,
As you know my release date was coming up and I am finally living on the outside. It’s strange being free and being out from behind the cold walls.
I received your letter before I was released and I was so sorry to read that you had to put down your beloved dog. Putting him down must have been so hard for you and I wish I could have been there during your greatest time of need.
To answer your question my husband was the one to pick me up and it is just like how it was before I was sent to prison. I take care of all the household chores and even his new wives who have permanently moved in with us. Joe has taken to working very long hours. Sometimes he leaves very early in the morning and not returning until the sun sets. Sometimes even later. The new wives do not help with the household. They state they don’t need to help they are just for show.
There is a family reunion on the 30th of the month. I am hopeful that I will get to see you while we are there. If not, I totally understand.
I am hoping and praying that all is continuing to be well with you and that you are able to find some peace during this time of absolute need.
I miss you everyday
Cass
I folded up the letter and wrote the address on the envelope
Printz Construction
cc. Anna Boyton
2224 Barlow Ave

I put the finishing touches to the envelope adding the stamp and placing the letter safely inside. I licked the flap and sealed it shut. I was placing the letter in with the bills waiting to be sent when Jennifer walked in. She and the other wives had be so busy moving today that I stayed out of the way.
"What are you doing, Cassandra??"
"Writing a letter to a friend I was in prison with. She sent a letter the other day telling me she had to put her dog down, so I'm sending my condolences."
"Why would you be keeping in contact with those people? You're better than them."
"I'm no better than any other person who was put in that awful place. We survived together and if I can show her a bit of kindness in her time of need, I will. She was thrown in prison, the same as me. We helped heal each other."
“Whatever loser, I’m running to the store I need to get some new decorations for my room upstairs. My area is so blah looking. When I get back I expect a seared tuna with a side salad ready for me.”
“Sure. Have fun.”
I mumbled as she walked away. With her out of the house I could use the excuse of needing to go buy fresh fish an excuse for getting this letter mailed and a few minutes of freedom. I remember seeing the grocery store just two miles away. I had no car so I would have to walk. I put on my sneakers and started walking towards the store.
There was a mailbox on the side of the road almost half way in between. I was grateful to put the letters in and it wouldn’t look like me going out of my way. I finished walking to the store and bought the freshest piece of tuna the store had and some ice for the bag to keep the fish fresh as I could for the walk back. I started my walk back when my phone started ringing. It was Joe and he was pissed that I was not at home. He demanded to know why my phone was showing that I was two miles away. I explained.. or at least tried to that I went to the store.
That was an explanation he didn’t want to hear. He informed me to stay where I was and he would be coming to get me. So I stopped walking and tried to take shelter while I waited for him to come and get me.
In the distance I saw a flash of lightening and thick black clouds rolling in. I had been standing in this spot for almost two hours now. I kept checking my phone and no one messaged no one said they were coming. The fish was starting to smell through the bag that keeps stuff cold. I watched as the rain in the distance started pouring down. I looked at my phone and one more time at the road around me. He wasn’t coming so I started walking once again.
I reached the gate to the house and I was drenched. Several cars had passed me splashing into the biggest puddles they could find. So I was dirty, cold, and soaked to the bone. I walked in and Headed for the kitchen. The tuna surprisingly was still cold. The ice was all but melted and it dripped along the hallway.
I placed the fish into the fridge and ran upstairs to shower and change. Joe was no where in sight. I walked to the room I had spent the night before in. The door was locked. I knocked and Joe answered.
“b***h where the f**k have you been?”
“UH… I told you I went to the store to get tuna for Jennifer. You told me to wait and that you would come get me. So I did.”
“You stupid Cunt I wasn’t actually coming to get you. You’re so stupid sometimes.”
“May I come in and change at least? Im cold and wet.”
By this point I was shaking uncontrollably.
“This is not your room. This is my room. Your room is over there.”
He pointed down the hallway and started to close the door.
“Which one?”
The anger that flared in his face was one that I only got to witness once in a great while. The anger of dealing with a stupid wife like me. He grabbed my arm with a bruising force and half dragged me down the hall. At the very end there was a small door he opened it and threw me inside with a force so hard that I slammed into the wall. He slammed the door and walked away. I leaned my body against the wall and started to pull myself up. I looked around and it was small. There was an old looking futon against the wall and a dresser on the other. There was no room for any other furniture or space for anything really.
I opened the drawers and found an old sweatshirt and sweatpants and fresh underwear and socks. The bathroom was next to my room so I was able to slip in and get a hot shower.
The mud and dirt washed off me and I felt some warmth returning to my body. I didn’t stay in there long. Just long enough to feel warm once again.
I dried and dressed into my clothes, I quickly cleaned the bathroom and headed to the kitchen.
Searing the tuna and making a fresh salad I had everything ready for the four of them to have dinner. I made some toast and headed to hide in my room. I hoped and prayed that Anna would come for me. I needed her to come for me, or at least send some one to come for me.
I laid on my futon and thought back to when I was a teenager and the first time I had my hear broken. Eric Danielson. He was my first love. I remember the first time I saw him. God he was godly. Even though we were awkward teenagers, his eyes…. They told a long hard story. One that I learned in depth.
We would sit in the back yard and just talk, and talk, and talk. I learned about his foster life and how he went from home to home and the abuse he received. I remember the day he left that was the day that my heart shattered into a million pieces and refused to heal. He knew he was leaving, he knew that they were replacing him into a new home but he never told me. And the day that the car showed up to take him that was the day of our first kiss and I knew I would forever be in love with him. He was my everything. And watching that car drive off with him staring back at me was the worst feeling I ever had. I sank to my knees as the car rounded the corner and he was out of sight.
That was also the day that my life changed forever. Dad’s “friends” stared coming around a lot more. I refused to leave my room. But that wasn’t an actual option. I had to meet every one of dads “friends” and their sons.
