--- *Chapter 8: Jones’ Sister* A small cafe, full of people. Zain sat in the corner seat, back to the wall. The door opened. Maya walked in and sat across from him. Zain: "Why did you pick a public place like this? We need to talk about something serious." Maya: "Because I don’t want to meet you alone. I don’t trust a man like you." Zain smiled slightly. "But I didn’t know a policewoman could be this beautiful." Maya rolled her eyes. "Anyway, why did you want to meet me?" Zain leaned forward. "First, can you switch off your phone?" Maya: "Ah... ok." She powered it down. Zain: "I want to meet you because I have evidence against my father. But it’s not enough to arrest him. So I’ll give you everything... just give me more time." Maya: "Why me? Why not Jones? Or Richard?" Zain’s face hardened. "Why are you asking? You know Richard and Jones both hate me." He paused. "Anyway, I heard Lucas came to the police department before his murder." Maya: "Yes. He said he was a reporter and wanted answers. But it was weird when we went to his house." Zain: "No, no. He wasn’t a reporter. He was my dad’s ex-secretary. After he quit, he started his own investigation." Maya froze. "Wait... he forgot his diary at the department. He wrote, ‘If anything happens to me, find my necklace. Also write Richard’s name.’" Zain sat up straight. "Wait, what? Richard?" Maya: "He wrote, ‘Tell Richard everything.’" Zain stood up. "I have to go. I’ll call you when I find the evidence." --- *Police Department* Jones sat at his desk and closed his eyes. _Flashback. A restaurant. Two years ago._ Zain, Emily, and Jones were sitting together. Emily smiled: "Jones, he’s my boyfriend." Zain looked at Jones and said, "He’s my brother." _Present._ Jones opened his eyes. "Junior Daniel." A young officer: "Sir, I need 2 days off. My sister is in critical condition. I need to go." Jones: "Oh yeah, I forgot. Did you find a heart donor?" Daniel: "Yes, sir." Jones: "Yes, you can go. Take good care of her." His phone buzzed on the desk. Maya was calling. Jones picked up: "Where are you? Why aren’t you picking up?" Maya: "Where’s Richard?" Jones: "He left half an hour ago, said he was going home. I talked to him 10 minutes ago." --- *Sunset. An old abandoned company building.* Richard sat on a metal chair. Hands tied. Feet tied. Black cloth covered his face. A man stood in front of him. His back looked familiar. Broad shoulders. Same walk. The man slowly pulled the black cloth off Richard’s face. Richard blinked at the light. He looked up and whispered: "You... what are you doing here?" _End Chapter 8_
