Lynx
I undress myself in the dark flat. I put on an overly large highschool jersey that once belonged to Jared before I stole it. Along with a pair of dirty white crew socks that were on my floor. I left my hellcat firmly strapped to my thigh just in case. Then I grab my bong and stash to settle down for the night.
Knock Knock
It's been less than five minutes since Jared and Edgar left, so I automatically assume it must be one of them. I set my bong on the coffee table, and walk to the door.
I hesitate right before I touch the knob. Something just didn't feel right. I decide just to be safe I'll text Jared to make sure it's one of them.
Saturday October 28th 2:49 AM
Lynx: "Is that you outside?"
JARED: "No, just left."
The moment I received Jared's text another knock. This time they beat hard against the wood. My heart matched it.
Knock Knock Knock
I shoot another text to Jared.
Lynx: "Someone's knocking."
I hear an amused voice call my name from the other side of the door like it was all a game.
"Lynxxxxx,"
I received another text.
JARED: "Don't answer. You know where the shotgun is if you need it."
Jared knows I can handle myself, but everything in my gut is telling me to run. I haven't felt this scared in years, and I can't even explain why.
I walk to the door, and look through the peephole. No one is there, so I text Jared back.
Lynx: "Are you messing with me Jerk?"
JARED: "No why?"
I'm not sure if I believe him. Jared loves to scare me, and it is Halloween weekend. I shrug it off anyways and text back.
Lynx: "Nothing, they are gone, but whoever it was knew my name."
It is a rare thing for someone to know my real name. I regularly use aliases, so it could only be a select number of people. Likely one of the guys in Edgar's biker gang messing with me or looking to bang.
I go lay back down on my squeaky old couch, and fall into the stream of pictures and memes on my social media feed. After a few minutes another knock, but this time it wasn't coming from the backdoor. It was coming from the door that leads down into the bar. Someone is inside, and since the alarms didn't go off it has to be Jared.
Ugh! I swear to God! I am going to kill him for messing with me.
I jump off my couch, and run to the door. I swing it open ready to curse at Jared, who I knew must be snickering on the other side, but no.
It was Blood Sucking Scarface from the alley.
My hand dropped from the door knob, and I slowly backed up into my dark room. With every step I took he took a step forward, following my movement.
"Where is your brother?" Scarface asks me with a calm voice even though he knows damn well I am alone.
He has clearly been watching.
"Get the f**k Out!" I yell.
"Are you scared?"
The back of my knees meet the arm of my couch. Forcing me to stop retreating from him.
"What is your family's crest?" He asks me, but I can't seem to understand a word coming out of his mouth as I am stone cold stolen from any sense of security.
I hear my phone ping three times in a row.
Please be Jared. Please come back.
I run to my phone, and grab it off my coffee table. The man just watched. He didn't flinch or try to stop me.
"Get the f**k out before I call the police!" I threaten him with my phone up in the air, and my hand on the dial button to show him.
"The police?” He contemplates my answers before he goes on. “So I am guessing you don't have enough control over your power to fight me off? And the only person you have to turn to is a human police officer? That is honestly quite sad. You are definitely a rogue."
I let my hand fall to my side while secretly hitting the call button on Jared's contact, and when I hear him answer I say.
"Get the f**k out or I will blow your brains out." Loud enough for Jared to hear on the other end of the line.
"But I am just starting to get to know you. I can help you, and in exchange you can help me. Your blood is quite..." I see the man's eyes narrow in on the place he bit me. "distracting."
"Get away from me you cannibal freak!" I scream as I grab my giant glass bong off the coffee table, and throw it at him.
He swats it to the side, laughing, obviously enjoying this. Then he runs straight for me. I try to grab my gun, but he throws my body against the wall. He holds me firm while he prys the phone from my hand, and puts it to his ear.
"Is this your brother?" Scarface mouths a silent question at me.
I remained fighting under his grip. Hoping Jared would burst through that damn door any second.
He begins to speak.
"This is Sage Ozin, of the Fae Order at the Seminary of Magic. I am with Miss Lynx. Please state your family crest, and the name of Lynx's parents or guardian. She has committed a crime this evening."
I could hear Jared screaming bloody insults on the other end of the line, muffled by Ozin's cheek. It actually looked like Ozin was considering what Jared was saying. Then he drops the phone away from his ear, and asks.
"Is your brother your only relative? Is there someone of magical adaptation I could speak to? A guardian?" His voice is calm like an officer of the law.
This man is clearly on drugs, so I stay silent.
"Do you even understand a word I am saying?" Ozin asks me like I am a pitiful i***t underneath his grip.
"I suggest you leave before my brother comes here and kills you." I tell him, and then spit in his face.
He didn't even flinch when my spit hit him. He wiped it away with the back of his hand, and then licked his hand clean as I watched.
"Poor girl. Tsk tsk" He says, shaking his head. “At least with you at the Seminary I won't have to miss that sweet taste of yours."
Like an erupting star a bright light appeared behind him. Blinding and warm it swallowed us whole.
