CHAPTER 11

゚・ 。゚ AFTERNOON ゚。・゚ Cole closed the door of his apartment with a tired sigh. He was exhausted. Especially after the meeting with the client ... as, not only had he had to explain their company proposal to the middle-aged man, but also had to deal with other types of proposals ... Proposals that, if it was not for Jax, would have made the meeting gone in a very bad way. "We would have ended at the police station, that is for sure ...” - he said to himself as he left the keys and the wallet on the nearest chair to immediately drop on the sofa. “And to think that he seemed to be so proper...” - Cole muttered as he rubbed his still sore wrist. A wrist that had the man's fingers still engraved on the skin. "I'm going to have to use some cream ..." “DAAAAAAADY..." Cole growled a curse and, lowering the sleeve of his shirt with great speed, turned towards the door of the corridor from where a whirlwind was running towards him while letting out a happy and carefree laugh. "What... is she doing here at this hour?" “Daddy, you're back soon” - said the girl as she threw herself into her father's arms with a happy expression on her beautiful face. “The same as you ... did not you have a birthday to go to?” - Cole asked with a frown. Something that he regretted in that same moment as he saw how his light stops smiling and looked, sadly, towards her lap. “The party was not today” - said Mrs. Powell as she left one of the rooms with her bag and her dress coat on her hands “a regrettable mistake ... according to the mother" A mistake... Yeah, sure. Cole looked at Ellie and, with a smile, kissed her daughter's head while thinking again of her mother's proposal of changing her to another school. “Mary and the other girls from class did not arrive ... grandma and I were waiting for them at the park but ... nobody showed up” - murmured the girl with a sad voice but, seconds later, she started to smile happily “but the grandmother is going to take me to the cinema!" Cole looked at his mother. “A great idea!” - He exclaimed as he pulled the girl away and, after opening his briefcase, he took out several tickets “and ... if you are going to the shopping center that is in the suburbs, maybe you can use this". Mrs. Powell approached them and, taking the tickets, started to read them with a frown. “Dream House?” - she asked while looking up from the ticket “Is not one of those trendy restaurants?" Cole nodded as he let out a slight chuckle. “Let's say it was a gift from heaven ..." "Or from a tomato fairy ..." ゚・ 。゚ FLASHBACK ゚。・゚ It had not passed more than ten minutes when Jax, with a scolding face, got up from his seat to approach the table he had been occupying. "Not now ...” - Cole told himself as he looked at the five-scoop glass of ice cream that was in front of him and that he had barely tasted. The young waitress, Lola, had brought him the ice cream as a gift from the house. "For being the 100th customer of the day” - the young woman had said, her cheeks slightly red. Something strange, no doubt, but the young man - and especially his stomach - was not going to reject a gift like that. Much less after that miserable sandwich. So Cole had accepted the gift with a shy smile that had made the girl blush even more. But now... As soon as he had placed the spoon in the cup, his boss had got up and, by his expression and the way he was carrying his briefcase, he was ready to leave the place without letting him finish his food. To leave him unable to taste that delicious ice cream that was in front of him. "He wants to starve me now, no doubt!" He is a Meany!!! However, before he could say anything, Jax had already reached the table. “Cole!” - exclaimed the young man as he looked first into his eyes and then towards the huge glass of ice cream “What do you think you are doing?! We do not have time for this ... our client awaits us!" And without further ado, he turned and started to walk towards the exit. However, he did not get very far because, suddenly, the young man gave a little cry as he slid a few millimeters on the floor to finally fall on his face right next to one of the tables that were being occupied. The table that, with the dishes that were on it, ended over Jax with such noise that caught the attention of those present, owner of the restaurant included. “JAX!" ゚・ 。゚END OF FLASHBACK ゚。・ Cole, noticing his mother's frown, smiled again. “It was a gift from the owner of the restaurant..." Mrs. Powell nodded quietly. “I see ...” - the woman mumbled while she kept the tickets in her purse and then smiled at her granddaughter “well, it seems we already have a plan for after the cinema!" Ellie, with a shout of joy, separated herself from her father and, raising her arms towards the sky, began to make small little jumps. Cole and his mother laughed while seeing how happy the girl was. "At least she seems to have forgotten about the birthday party ...” - Cole told himself as he watched his daughter's face, "That is great...even if it is only for a while ..." After which the young man turned towards his mother. A few seconds later, however, he stopped smiling. “Is something wrong?" “Cole ... I'm thinking of taking Ellie to the mansion” - her mother murmured with a worried expression on her face ”your ... your father wants to see her". Cole stared at his mother for a couple of minutes then, with a tired sigh, he ended nodding quietly. “Okay..." [ A/N ] Hey, hope you liked it! LIKE | FOLLOW | COMMENT
