Chapter 18

1369 Words
Finn He really doesn’t listen and it drives me insane I can tell he loves her I can see the battle he fights within himself over her and that’s ok, but he doesn’t know her anymore and he needs to take a step back, what pisses me off is the fact I told him what I’ve noticed and that I think if we do it together soften the blow, be a United she wouldn’t be so skittish and try to hit the road running like we are the asshole that’s doing this to her, I want to help her but I know she doesn’t trust me to help her alone but with his help she just might let us help her. He might be like a boss but I’m going to be in control when it comes to her or he can get out of my way Aiden I saw red and didn’t think, I wanted to be angry and I wanted to punch something, someone, and punching Finn crossed my mind, he’s never talked to me like he has tonight, and probably because he works under me and we’ve always respected each other. But this was personal and in a territory, neither of us has crossed with each other, we have always been strictly coworkers, he’s asked a few times to come but I’m not that much of a bar person now I wish I had but I can’t blame him. He’s always been a cool guy, gets his work done even sometimes doing extra things neither I or Luke ask of him and until recently he’s always clocked him at or just after Luke and I get here and never leaves early, he’s never given me a reason to not like him and right now I don’t like him but he’s right I don’t know her anymore not this Teagan not adult Teagan. The party continued and I stayed at the bar not participating as I should but I had other things on my mind, “You look sick” I glance at Luke and he hands me a full beer that I take and chug almost all of it “How much do we know about Finn?” He raises a brow “I mean his resume was close to perfect, what are you talking about? Work-related or personal” I finish the beer and set it down “Personal he just crossed a line and not sure what I want to do” I look at him with a serious face “Cross a line how?” But I don’t think I should tell him. I’m quiet a bit thinking, Luke has become a good friend we talked about the things worrying us and have been there at each other's sides since the beginning which I have to admit hasn’t been long but the friendship between us was never hard. “Look man, I’m not sure what he did but I do know he’s dealing with some serious personal stuff so if it’s something he said, he could be looking at life a bit differently than you or I do.” Now it’s my turn to raise a brow, what the heck is he talking about “Personal stuff?” I ask “Yeah he’s been out a couple of times for health-related reasons, he will be out at the end of this week, he said he would be back Monday but I might make him take the week off he should be resting,” “What’s wrong,” I ask “If he didn’t tell you I don’t want to share his personal story but I’m sure whatever line he crossed was important he doesn’t seem like the type” Before this I would have agreed I still do I’m just mad he’s right about me and Teagan we aren’t close and that’s my fault “Is it serious?” “He will be ok if that’s what you’re asking?” He said. I might be acting like a child again Finn isn’t doing anything majorly wrong and if he’s going through things bigger than me or even bigger than what’s going on with Teagan and he’s still trying to help her it shows he’s a good man “That girl behind the bar, Ian and Henry hired is my neighbor we grew up together, and we were really close at one time best friends, I fell in love with her but never told her then we got to high school things changed, life was hard on her, on me the town, coaches put pressure to be the best athlete we both changed and struggled to stay friends I still loved her but never once told her instead I was a complete ass, I’d like to fix things but don’t know how, and Finn’s already stepping in more than I’d like, before I can fix things between us, also there’s also some personal stuff she’s going through that he figured out before I did” “Did he know you had a past with her?” “Not really he saw her with me once but I wasn’t very detailed about her” “Looks like you both should talk more” “Yeah,” I say, Teagan then walks over to our end of the bar and brings over more beer and I say thanks “I haven’t formally met you, Teagan, I’m Luke” he extends his hand for her to take and she shakes it “Nice to meet you” she responds “Stella could use the help so I’m glad Henry and Ian found you,” he tells her She smiles in return “yea I’m glad to be here” A few people walk up to the bar to make requests and she waves us off as she goes to help “I think things will work themselves out,” he says as he walks over to talk to a few people tonight’s the first night I’ve seen his relationship out in public it’s not as..weird as I thought it would be it seems normal. I see Finn walking to the bathroom and decide maybe together we can help Teagan and then I can work on fixing us, when I walk in he’s washing his hands “I can help I want to make sure she’s safe,” he tells me how he wants to help but that she has a guard high up. “First we need her to trust us and take it slow but I think she will open up quickly to one of us ******************************************* Slow wasn’t my forte and probably my downfall The look in her eyes after what I said was proof I needed to shut up and give Finn the reigns she looked like a scared puppy not sure what to do. Finn’s hands turned her gently to face him and he spoke softly “Hey you don’t have to worry we are here to help” She was quiet for a moment “I’m not sure if I want your help” she admits she’s looking at Finn but also looks at me. Somehow I feel like she might be embarrassed and for once in my goddamn life I read her emotions the right way, I say the right thing “T, this isn’t your fault, let us help” I match Finn’s low assuring voice “We promise whoever you're hiding from won't find you he won’t hurt you ever again” Her body softens a bit between us. I didn’t realize how close the 3 of us had gotten or the fact we both had our hands on her now “Can we go to your place?” Her question was directed to Finn but I understand I have my mom at home and her aunt could be home. “Absolutely,” he answers quickly we walk out into the parking lot and Finn helps her into her, well my truck's passenger side and he tells me to follow him. Giving me a silent but deadly look saying I better not f**k up again. I won’t not anymore.
