Royal Invitation

1080 Words
Aria's lips still tingled from the king's kiss as she made her way back to her chambers. She couldn't believe what had just happened. The king, the most powerful man in the kingdom, had kissed her. As she entered her chambers, Aria's maid, Elara, looked up from her sewing. "How was your walk in the gardens, milady?" she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice. Aria hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "It was...enlightening," she said finally, trying to sound nonchalant. Elara raised an eyebrow. "Enlightening?" she repeated. "What does that mean?" Aria sighed, knowing she couldn't keep the truth from Elara for long. "The king kissed me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Elara's eyes widened in surprise. "The king?" she repeated. "What did you do?" Aria shrugged. "I kissed him back," she admitted, feeling a flush rise to her cheeks. Elara's expression turned serious. "Aria, you have to be careful," she said. "The king is not a man to be trifled with. He has a reputation for being ruthless and cunning." Aria nodded, knowing Elara was right. But she couldn't help the way she felt. She was drawn to the king, despite the danger he posed. Just then, a knock at the door interrupted their conversation. Elara got up to answer it, revealing a royal guard standing in the hallway. "The king requests your presence at dinner tonight, Lady Aria," the guard said, bowing low. Aria's heart skipped a beat as she accepted the invitation. She knew that accepting would mean getting deeper into the king's world, but she couldn't resist the opportunity to see him again. As the guard left, Elara turned to Aria with a worried expression. "What have you gotten yourself into, milady?" she asked. Aria smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and trepidation. "I'm not sure," she admitted. "But I'm willing to find out." As the evening approached, Aria found herself feeling increasingly nervous. She had never dined with the king before, and she wasn't sure what to expect. Elara helped her get ready, styling her hair and assisting her into a beautiful gown. Aria looked at herself in the mirror, hardly recognizing the woman staring back at her. She felt like a princess, and the thought sent a thrill through her veins. When the royal guard arrived to escort her to dinner, Aria took a deep breath and followed him. They walked through the castle corridors, passing by suits of armor and tapestries depicting scenes of battles and feasts. As they approached the dining hall, Aria could hear the sound of laughter and music. She felt a surge of excitement, wondering what the evening held. When they entered the dining hall, Aria was struck by the opulence of the setting. The table was laden with fine china and crystal, and the room was filled with the kingdom's nobility. The king stood at the head of the table, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Aria. He smiled, and Aria felt her heart skip a beat. As she made her way to the table, Aria couldn't help but notice the way the king's eyes seemed to bore into her soul. She felt like he could see right through her, and the thought sent a shiver down her spine. When she reached the table, the king stood up and pulled out her chair. "Welcome, Lady Aria," he said, his voice low and husky. "I'm glad you could join me tonight." Aria smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards the king. "Thank you, Your Majesty," she replied, taking her seat. As the dinner began, Aria found herself feeling more and more at ease. The king was charming and witty, and he seemed to take a genuine interest in her. But as the evening wore on, Aria couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to the king's intentions. Something that went beyond mere friendship or courtesy. And as she looked into his eyes, she saw a glimmer of something that made her heart skip a beat. Something that looked almost like... desire. As the dinner drew to a close, the king pushed his chair back and stood up, his eyes never leaving Aria's face. "I believe it's time for dessert," he said, his voice low and husky. Aria's heart skipped a beat as the king offered her his arm. She took it, feeling a jolt of electricity as their skin touched. As they walked to the dessert table, Aria couldn't help but notice the way the king's eyes seemed to burn with intensity. She felt like he was seeing right through her, to the very soul of her. When they reached the dessert table, the king picked up a small, delicate pastry and held it to Aria's lips. "Try this," he said, his voice low and seductive. Aria's heart skipped a beat as she took a bite of the pastry. It was sweet and flaky, and it melted in her mouth like a cloud. As she chewed, the king's eyes never left hers. Aria felt like he was devouring her with his gaze, and she couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking. When she finished the pastry, the king took her hand and led her to a small, secluded garden off the side of the castle. The garden was filled with flowers and the sound of softly burbling water, and Aria felt like she had stepped into a dream world. The king stopped in front of a small fountain and turned to face her. "I wanted to get you alone for a minute," he said, his voice low and husky. Aria's heart skipped a beat as the king's eyes seemed to burn with intensity. She felt like he was going to kiss her, and she couldn't help but wonder what it would be like. But just as the king leaned in, a loud noise echoed through the garden, shattering the peaceful atmosphere. Aria turned to see one of the king's guards rushing towards them, a look of urgency on his face. "Your Majesty," the guard said, bowing low. "I apologize for interrupting, but there is a matter of great importance that requires your attention." The king's face darkened, and Aria could see the tension in his body. "What is it?" he growled, his voice low and menacing. The guard hesitated, glancing nervously at Aria before speaking. "It's the duke, Your Majesty," he said. "He's been accused of treason."
