The drive home stretched on longer than it should have. Silence settled over the car, thick and unyielding. No music filled the space. No one bothered to speak. Dimitri kept his eyes on the road, jaw set, hands gripping the steering wheel hard enough that his knuckles stood out pale against his skin. Lorenzo sat rigid in the passenger seat, arms crossed, gaze fixed on the blur of streetlights sliding past the window. In the back, Adrienne leaned against the door, knees drawn slightly inward.
