Rain fell steadily into the half-filled pool, dimpling the surface like it was trying to finish a job no one had managed to complete all day. Dimitri stood at the edge, arms crossed, scowling at the water level as if it were personally insulting him. The inflatable ring around his hips squeaked faintly every time he shifted, and the snorkel pushed up on his forehead only added to the absurdity.
