CARMÍN
“Say that again,” I heard myself say. My voice was low. The council member swallowed. I’m sorry, Alpha your father didn’t survive the attack.”
A slow breath left my nose It didn’t make sense, My father didn’t just die people like him don’t just die, not like that. “You’re mistaken,” I said flatly.
The man shook his head quickly. “We confirmed it. The convoy was attacked outside the city. There were no survivors from his vehicle.”
“Get out,” I said. He hesitated. “Alpha
“I said get out.” He left immediately afraid I might explode. I stood there alone in the hallway Almost confused.
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered to myself. I turned and walked down the hall out of the pack house. I didn’t even know where I was going, everything seemed blurry.
On the Pack Grounds, the entire pack was gathered every single person in black clothing paying their respects to my Father.
I stood at the front above them all just like I was supposed to, just like my father had stood before me my entire life, but now the space beside me was empty.
My mother stood behind me I didn’t look at her because if I did, I might break. She was trying her very best to hold it in.
“Your father was a strong Alpha,” the council elder spoke. “He led with honor, strength, and sacrifice.” They lowered his body covered in white lining.
“Carmín,” my mother whispered beside me. I didn’t answer, I was lost in my own thoughts.
The crowd began to disperse slowly, My Beta approached quietly.
“Carmín…” I’m sorry,” he said. I nodded once.
“Marisa is here.” That made me pause. Slowly, I turned my head and I saw her. She stood near the edge of the crowd.
She walked to the front of the hall to pay her respects to my father and then our eyes met Something inside me tightened instantly.
For a second I thought she would walk up to me and console me or say something to make me feel better or at most look away, like she is used to in class, but she didn’t instead she held my gaze. My jaw tightened.
She didn’t even step forward, didn’t speak Just stood there watching me like I was… nothing. Something dark cracked inside my chest.
My father was dead and she didn’t care My hands curled into fists.
“Carmín,” my Beta said carefully snapping me out of my thoughts. “Let’s go inside.”
I turned away from her abruptly because if I stayed there, if I looked at her any longer I would do something I couldn’t take back.
Later that night I didn’t speak to anyone, I couldn’t eat, and I just stood in my room, staring at nothing.
“I will not break,” I said out loud.
“You think this means nothing?” I muttered. My hands pressed against the wall. It wasn’t just that she didn’t care.
My wolf stirred for the first time since I saw her today.
Mine”
“Mine. My eyes darkened slightly.
“No,” I whispered.
If I didn’t break her walls then I would lose control completely. A slow breath left me. This isn’t over,” I said quietly.
