~ LARK ~ When they finally pulled into the industrial complex they called home, Lark was surprised by the tears pinching the back of her throat. Kenji had driven them, Lark and JP staying low in the back of the car, just in case. But there’d been no intrusion, no followers that they were aware of. They’d taken the long route just in case, but finally, as the car bumped across the gutter on the driveway into the complex, and the massive iron gates squeaked and clattered back to give them room to pass, Lark found herself slumping with relief. The sun was already beginning to set over the water and the gulls were out, but all Lark could see was the deep shadows of the buildings.
