Sandra's Pov
As I left the lecture hall, a question echoed in my mind, “Was I harsh on him?” I couldn’t shake the thought. I replayed my conversation with Liam over and over again, feeling a pang of guilt. Since catching Jason cheating, I had been grappling with mood swings and a simmering resentment towards almost all the boys on campus.
The betrayal from Jason cut deep. It had been over a month since I had seen him with that other girl, and he hadn’t called or checked up on me once. His indifference hurt almost as much as the infidelity itself. How could someone who claimed to love me so much simply disappear from my life without a second thought?
Lost in my thoughts, I made my way back to the hostel. The bustling noise of students around me felt distant, like I was walking through a fog. I reached the door to my room and took a deep breath before entering.
Emily was inside, lounging on her bed with a textbook open in front of her. “Hey, how were your classes?” she asked, looking up with a smile.
“They were alright,” I replied, trying to muster some enthusiasm. “How about you?”
“Same old, same old. Nothing too exciting,” Emily said, stretching her arms above her head. “Are you okay? You seem a bit off.”
Emily had been my best friend since childhood. We grew up together, went to the same schools, and now we were roommates in college. She was the best thing that ever happened to me at Stanford. Always supportive and understanding, she was my rock during tough times.
Before I could respond, my phone rang. I glanced at the screen and felt a jolt of anxiety. It was Jason.
“What does he want now?” I muttered, feeling my stomach churn.
Emily looked up, her eyes narrowing. “Who is it?”
“Jason,” I said, answering the call.
“Sandra, it’s me,” Jason’s voice came through the line, oozing with the same arrogance that had drawn me to him initially but now made my skin crawl. “I’m outside your hostel. Come down and talk to me.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I said, my voice shaking slightly.
“Just come down. I’m waiting in my car. We need to talk,” he insisted, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Hesitantly, I hung up and looked at Emily. “He’s outside. He wants to talk.”
“Do you want me to come with you?” Emily asked, her concern evident.
I shook my head. “No, I’ll handle it. I need to do this on my own.”
Emily nodded, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. “Be strong. Don’t let him manipulate you.”
Taking a deep breath, I walked downstairs and out to the parking lot. Jason’s car was impossible to miss—a sleek, black sports car that screamed luxury. He sat behind the wheel, looking every bit the confident, untouchable guy he always was.
I opened the passenger door and slid in, the scent of his cologne immediately enveloping me. “What do you want, Jason?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He looked at me with a smirk. “I wanted to see you. It’s been a while.”
“A while? It’s been over a month, Jason. You didn’t call or check up on me after I caught you with another girl. Do you have any idea how much that hurts?”
Jason shrugged nonchalantly. “I had to travel. And about that girl, she seduced me. You know how it is. I’m the hottest and richest guy on campus. Every girl wants a piece of me.”
I clenched my fists, feeling my anger rise. “That’s your excuse? That you’re so desirable you couldn’t resist? That’s pathetic, Jason.”
He leaned back in his seat, his smirk never faltering. “Look, I chose you out of all the girls on campus. You should feel lucky. I transformed your life. You were nothing before me.”
I felt a surge of rage. “Transformed my life? You mean you manipulated and used me. And now you think you can just waltz back in and expect everything to be fine?”
Jason’s eyes narrowed. “Are you seeing someone else? Is that what this is about?”
“Even if I were, it’s none of your business. We’re done, Jason. I’m breaking up with you.”
His face twisted with anger. “You’re making a big mistake. No one will treat you as well as I did. I could have chosen any girl, any ‘baddie,’ as you put it, but I chose you. You should be grateful.”
I laughed bitterly. “Grateful? For being cheated on and ignored? No thanks. Go to hell, Jason.”
I slammed the car door shut, the sound echoing through the parking lot. Jason leaned out of the window, yelling after me, “You’ll regret this! You’re nothing but a slut!”
I walked away, my heart pounding. Tears streamed down my face as I reached my hostel room. Emily rushed to my side as soon as I entered.
“What happened?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.
I broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. “It’s over. I broke up with him. He called me a slut. He said I’d regret it.”
Emily hugged me tightly. “He’s an i***t, Sandra. You deserve so much better. Don’t let his words get to you.”
I cried into her shoulder, the weight of the past month’s emotions finally spilling over. “Thank you, Emily. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You’ll find someone better,” she assured me, rubbing my back comfortingly. “Someone who truly appreciates you and treats you with the respect you deserve.”
I nodded, wiping my tears. “I hope so. I really hope so.”
As I sat there in Emily’s comforting embrace, I realized that maybe, just maybe, this was the start of a new beginning. A beginning where I could finally find the happiness and peace I had been longing for.
Liam's POV:
"You can't be serious. You mean Sandra doesn’t remember the kiss at the welcome party?" Jake said, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"For real, man. It’s quite painful," I said, my voice tinged with disappointment. "She didn’t remember anything about the kiss. She acted like it never happened.
Funny enough she didn't even give me her number”
Jake shook his head, clearly baffled. "That sucks, dude. I thought you two had something special."
As we spoke, Peter remained focused on his phone, engrossed in playing Call of Duty. He barely acknowledged our conversation. I decided it was time to address the elephant in the room.
"Peter, how do you know Sandra?" I asked, trying to keep my tone casual but feeling a knot of tension building in my stomach.
Peter glanced up briefly, his eyes narrowing. "Why do you care?"
I clenched my jaw, trying to keep my cool. "Because I saw you talking to her after our lecture today."
Peter smirked, his fingers still tapping on his phone screen. "We've been seeing each other for a while. Not that it's any of your business."
I felt a surge of anger. "Seeing each other? What do you mean by that?"
Peter finally put down his phone and looked at me directly, his expression hardening. "Look, I didn't know she was the girl you were talking about all this time. But it doesn't matter. I've got plans to ask her to be my girlfriend. So back off."
My heart sank at his words. "You can't be serious, Peter. I've had feelings for her since the welcome party. You know that."
Peter shrugged, a dismissive look on his face. "Doesn't change anything. She's her own person. If she chooses me, that's on her."
Jake intervened, trying to defuse the situation. "Guys, calm down. This isn't worth fighting over."
I could feel the tension boiling over. "You can’t just claim her, Peter. She deserves to make her own choice."
Peter scoffed. "She will. But I'm telling you now, I'm not stepping aside for you. So, stay out of my way."
I stared at Peter, my mind racing with frustration and disbelief. The room felt charged with unresolved tension as I tried to process the unexpected turn of events.
The confrontation hung heavy in the air, unresolved, as we all went back to our own thoughts, the rift between us growing wider with each passing second.
