Chapter 4

883 Words
Tasha woke up early the next morning, realizing she was still in that place. Her unfamiliarity with her surroundings was evident in her early awakening. Unable to go back to sleep, she decided to get up. To her surprise, Carson was not beside her on his own large bed. Did he not sleep next to her? There were no signs of him having slept there. After a quick shower, she left the room out of curiosity. Tasha paused when she saw Carson lying on the long sofa in the living room. She sighed. His room was just a few steps away, yet he chose not to go there. Maybe he didn't want to sleep beside her? Perhaps, like her, Carson was still getting used to her presence. She suddenly entered his life. In his seemingly peaceful life, in her thoughts. She sighed again. Maybe that was the reason. Tasha approached Carson, who was sound asleep. She wondered what time he had come home. The important thing was that he arrived safely. She carefully moved closer to Carson, who looked gentle while sleeping. But if he were awake? There he goes again, looking serious. He seemed like a dragon ready to breathe fire at any moment. He was undeniably handsome, and she couldn't deny that fact. She was about to touch his hair, but her hand clenched. She feared waking him up. Tasha decided it was time to leave Carson's side and head back to their room. As she returned to the living room, she looked for a spare blanket to cover him. Carson remained undisturbed by her movements. Giving him one last glance, she made her way to the kitchen. The household staff was already bustling around, preparing breakfast. "Good morning, Ma'am Tasha," they greeted her. "And good morning to you all," she replied. Tasha was not the type of boss who kept her distance from the staff. She remembered how shocked they were when she arrived with Carson the night before, revealing that she was their employer's wife. They couldn't believe their usually reserved boss had tied the knot. Only Esther received special treatment. "Do you happen to know what time Carson came home last night?" she asked softly. "It was midnight, ma'am," Abby, who had been awake when Carson returned, answered. "Did you two start arguing right away because—" "Nida, mind your words," Esther scolded the maid. "We shouldn't discuss their private matters. Carson despises that. You could be fired on the spot." "I apologize, Esther," Nida said, lowering her head. "Well," Esther turned to Tasha with a formal tone. "Are you feeling hungry, Ma'am Tasha?" "Just Tasha is fine, Esther. No need for formalities." "If that's your preference, Tasha, dear." A smile formed on Tasha's lips at Esther's words. She didn't want them to feel awkward around her. "I'll eat later; Carson and I will have breakfast together." "Well, Sir doesn't have a heavy breakfast," Karla commented. "He just drinks a cup of coffee before heading down to his office." Her husband didn't eat breakfast. It didn't sound good to her because she believed that the most important meal of the day was breakfast. "Prepare breakfast for two this morning. I'll invite Carson to eat." "Well, ma'am," Abby scratched her head, "if you insist on Sir." Tasha thought she could persuade Carson, but she was wrong. "Haven't you informed her that I don't eat breakfast?" The three maids, lined up in the dining area, kept their heads down as Carson raised his eyebrows. It was early in the morning, but his mood quickly ruined the day. "Breakfast is more important meal of the day, our body needs it, especially if it's a heavy meal. Not just a cup of coffee," Tasha told her husband, who turned his gaze towards her. She refrained from retracting her words. "Let's talk," he said before leaving the dining room. The three maids sighed in relief once he left. "I'll handle this," Tasha told them before following Carson to their room. "Who told you that you can meddle in what I should and shouldn't do?" he immediately asked her. She swallowed, refusing to be intimidated by his anger. "Is there something wrong with what I want? I just want someone to eat breakfast with. And besides, is it wrong for me to think about your health?" "Since when did you become a doctor?" She bit her lower lip. This man is really impossible. "Carson—" "If having someone to eat breakfast with is the issue, you have Esther and the others; they can accompany you." How can she please this man? If it weren't for her family's huge debt off gratitude to him, she wouldn't tolerate his attitude. Yes, he's handsome, but in her opinion, he falls short in other aspects. Plus, he's so grumpy. "Don't try to cross my boundaries, Natasha. You know your role in my life." "I know. But can't we at least be friends, Carson?" "No." A simple answer, but it felt like a flick in Tasha's chest, leaving her unable to speak. So, he didn't want to fully welcome her into his world? Even just as a friend? As Tasha left Carson in their room, she let out a sigh. It was indeed challenging to please him.
