Chapter 5

872 Words
Due to the coldness of Tasha's husband, she took it upon herself to adjust for their situation. She understood that she was newly thrust into Carson’s life. What should she expect? That they would instantly become close to each other? They only met in court on the day of their wedding. They barely knew each other. To get to know Carson better, Tasha spent time chatting with Esther. She also confided in the elderly woman about their actual relationship. "We're not married in a romantic way, Esther," Tasha explained. "If not for his agreement to the arranged marriage to help our family's business, I wouldn't be here. So, if you see that Carson treats me as cold as ice, it's because we're not close. But since he's my husband, even if only on paper, I still want to get to know him better because I live under his roof every day. I'm sorry if I have so many questions for you now, Esther." "I understand, dear. Carson, from the beginning, never shows soft emotions especially when both his parents died in a plane crash. Carson was still very young then. That child used to be affectionate to his mom and dad, especially to his mother, who was always with him. He's a menopausal baby, you see. That's why if you notice, there's a significant age gap between him and his older siblings. Philip is already sixty years old while Aries is fifty-five. Carson was raised by his siblings to manage the family business from a young age. Their family business is not only in America; they also have operations in other countries. Aries manages their overseas business. Philip retired because of his senior age. Now, Carson oversees the entire company. Many families rely on Carson. They also have a vast farm where they raise imported cattle. And there's a lot more. You'd be overwhelmed by the extent of their family business," Esther continued. "So, if Carson is that grumpy, we just understand because he's an extremely busy person." At the age of twenty-nine, Carson carries the weight of managing his family's business in the country. In that aspect, Tasha understands her husband. Like Esther, she extends her understanding to him. Managing a business is indeed not easy, especially when he has multiple areas to oversee. “Once a month, he travels to Texas and Arizona.” “What does he have in Arizona?” “Luxury hotels. Here in Seattle, they also own an industrial park and many other ventures. I can't even count them on my fingers, dear.” Tasha herself is astounded by the vastness of what she's have known. No wonder helping her father-in-law is a piece of cake for Carson. With the constant presence of business around him, even she is being drawn into it. “Have you heard anything about his girlfriend?” She couldn't help but ask. “I know nothing about Carson's background, especially his personal life.” “I'm sorry, Tasha, dear. When it comes to Carson's private life, I don't know anything. He doesn't bring any women here to the house. Even when he used to live at Montero’s Mansion before moving here, I didn't see or heard anything about him bringing a woman there. Perhaps, with his busy schedule, he has no time for a woman.” Does Carson really have no time for a woman? What if, before she entered his life, he had a woman with him? That's something that didn't immediately leave Tasha's mind. Carson arrived for lunch. He said he eats here because his office is in the same building in Seattle City. Tasha was itching to go down and peek into his office. After all, he wouldn't likely kick her away, right? “It's okay if I go out once in a while, right? ," she asked Carson as they were having their meal together. “Do whatever you want,” Carson replied without bothering to look at Tasha. Is he annoyed with her? Even if he stares at her for a long time, he doesn't seem to be able to do it. She makes sure she looks presentable at all times. “How about on the weekend? Maybe you'd like to go out together?" she asked with a smile. Carson only looked up at her then. She didn't wipe the sweet smile off her lips, even if she wanted to tilt her head. “I'm in Texas on the weekend.” "At your farm?" He furrowed his brows. "How did you know?" "I just know," she pretended to say. She didn't mention Esther, who told her. It's better not to provoke him. "Can I come along?" she asked, still smiling sweetly. “No,” replied Carson, redirecting his attention back to his food. The smile faded from Tasha's lips. “Why? I won't bother you there.” "Are we eating or chatting?" he said, giving her a cold look. She sighed. "Eating." How could she please her husband, who's colder than ice? She discreetly glanced at Carson, who was now fully focused on his meal. He looked like an apparition because of his extreme good-looking man. It's as if being handsome effortlessly comes naturally to him.
